Question: Palitoy MOC Values

Morning All...quick question.

As a general rule of thumb is a standard Palitoy branded card ( Palitoy Logo on front ) always worth more than the Kenner branded counterpart ? If yes. Roughly how much more is the premium.

Are there any Palitoys that just are not worth the extra. For example an Empire AtAt commander figure ?

Cheers

Well you could right pages on this to be honest, some Kenner cards are extremely rare, 48bk offererless 4-LOM for example. However as a general rule, yes, Palitoy cards are worth a lot more than there Kenner counterparts. There are quite a few of the really rare Palitoy cards where it is believed there are very few in existence, although no one knows what is out there in collections or as yet unfound items.

All down to basic economics of supply and demand, the amount of Palitoy out there compared to Kenner is minute, although Vectis have gone some way on certain cards to change this slightly.

I guess some 30 bks could now be considered to be almost common now, Luke Hoth, Leia Hoth, HRS, Lando, Hoth Stormtrooper ect, but how many Imperial Commanders or Bossks have you seen crop up recently????

As for how much more, depends on cardbacks, figure ect. A 45a ATAT commander of BBG is probably around same price as a Kenner, but get a 45a Luke or Han for example you could be talking anywhere between £3-6k depending on condition.......

I always think it boils down to, an item is worth, what someone is willing to pay.

There must be an old thread somewhere where this has been discussed before.......

There are no rules, it's really on a case by case basis. A Palitoy Fett will cost 30 times as much as a Kenner one, and a Palitoy BBG will cost about the same. Generally yes Palitoy MOCs are more valuable than Kenner, but it's impossible to give an average figure to the extra value.

There can be massive fluctuations with Paltoys when 1 or 2 people are trying to complete a run. I noted all the previous sale prices of Palitoy cards at Vectis over the last year, and using that put some bids in. A Luke Bespin went for £1800 early on. I put a bid of £640 on the latest, knowing I wouldn't win, but had to put something just in case. Well I bloody won it for £620! The first Greedo went for £3k, the last just £750. Lando ranged from £480 to £1680, Luke 12B from £2800 to £5000, R2 £750 to £1400, Hoth Trooper £1100 to £1900. So unlike a 12bk Luke, or 21B Fett which usually sell within a couple of hundred of the last, these are highly changeable.

Congrats, I was tempted to do the same thing but pulled out at the last minute. Compared to recent historical sales, it's a great price!

I would agree with all the responses here. I run Star Wars Tracker and get to see a lot of pricing data for analysis. Palitoy logo cards are more scarce which does make for volatile price swings. To echo this Luke Bespin example, there certainly seems to be a cooling effect on the prices for this item. That said, the recent price is still way more than you can get a Kenner version for.

I recall seeing someone on here saying a friend of theirs needed the Palitoy Snaggletooth, and that he'd pay upto £1000 for it. Previous sale prices go from £440 to £800. Only takes 2 people in the room with that goal (well, now in the world bidding online), and even that figure can go up as they break desperation sets in.

Palitoy has been more in price than Kenner for a long time.

Supply and demand has largely been the cause of that as with everything collecting related.

As to how much more is really hard to gauge as popularity of certain figures/cardbacks changes.

Plus it's hard to always compare equally card for card as they don't match. For example there's no Palitoy 21 back
