Man this is exciting! 48 new Palitoy 12 backs will not exactly flood the market but a few more finds like this and they'll become a little more commonplace hopefully.
I'm sure they'll be a few collectors who manage to fill gaps in their collections or upgrade which should mean a few lower grade items come back on to the market.
Hope yet of owning one!

Incredible! Who would of thought a stash like this could remain undisturbed all this time. I'm curious if this all came to light after Craig's 15k Fett was all over the news? Like everyone else can't wait for more info, happy days! :D

Yes, presume they will open the box and sell them off individually. Also sell all the 12 backs separately. Both empty boxes will be sold too.

Cheers Jason

Well, I can see those Death Star's going into multiple £1000's which will price me out but all I can hope for is anyone who buys one will be upgrading and be selling their spare, so I'll keep my fingers crossed a few used DS's find their way into the market.

"Death Star Play Situation" written on the shipping box is great!

Anyone else surprised by how much edge wear on the Death Star box in that photo?

If the 6 Death Stars are indeed sold individually, one at a time, then isn't the first one sold going to be really expensive, and then once the first five have gone and those buyers have theirs in the bag, by the time they get to Death Star 6 the price should be lower?

Also, are Palitoy Death Stars tape sealed or is the end flap just tucked in? (sorry don't have mine about to answer this)

All Pali death star box are taped if found in case fresh condition, be v interesting to see if the tape has dried up and fallen off, this will affect the price as well :?:

That's precisely the point I was trying to make in another thread, and the answer is yes. Two things affect the value - supply and demand. If the supply suddenly increases, the value will decrease. It's simple economics.

In this case though, I don't think six is enough to flood the market. How many are known currently?

It won't work like that though because people will try and be clever. So, many will assume the same as you and will think I'll wait until the 4th/5th6th one to bid but then that makes the first few cheaper because there are less bidders and it goes on and on.

It would be different for items with limited demand, but it sounds like loads of people would want these. I'd guess that waiting for the last one is the worst possible idea because then you've got no option but to go high if you really want it, and someone else might be doing the same.

If they list the 6 individually it will be really interesting to see how the bids go.

I think the first goes highest and the last goes 2nd or 3rd highest as people panic.

Well if they have 6 sales back to back then the first may or may not set a benchmark in terms of price, but what it will do is reveal exactly how high the under bidder and the other contenders at the auction are willing to bid before bailing!

For me the prospect of this sale is bittersweet because the Palitoy Death Star is my personal favourite item in the whole vintage line and I would be prepared to pay proper money. I have a very complete, nice one but it's not quite 100% complete - I don't have the silver sticker that is applied in the centre of the base, so I would love to have the opportunity to complete it. But... I don't collect sealed box items so it would be an anomaly in my collection. Damn! Maybe once they open the shipping case the Death Stars tape might have dried away or one box might have split... (now im imagining that bit when Belloq opens the ark to find only sand!)

If anything bringing six new misb ones into the market may slightly devalue those of us who do already have good condition examples.

These boxes are quite an amazing sight and it's really good to know that things like this are still out there.

I can see the Death Star's going for somewhere between 3.5-4K each if there's no damage to them and the tape hasn't dried. If they did end up at that kind of price I wonder if there are 6 Palitoy collectors out there with that kind of money who really want them? I also wouldn't be surprised to see some of them go for the same money as there might be one bidder who tries to buy them all as an investment. I guess we'll find out soon enough what the going rate is and then see if anyone get's their's graded.

The thing I'm really interested in seeing though is what figures are in that 48 figure box. It's a great bit of history to see how these figures were shipped out to the shops back in the day and should give a clue as to if each figure is packed in equal amounts or if there are some figures with lesser numbers. I'm also wondering if maybe there are going to be some large head Han Solo's in there as if this box was bought at the same time as the Death Star one it could mean that it's from a later run of the 12 backs. Also it'll be interesting to see if they're 12 A or B backs. Oh so many questions, I can't wait! :D

That's my concern with these going direct to an auction house. No disrespect to Vectis but they have nowhere near the knowledge many people on the forums have, and it would be a real shame if any important information (such as the above) was lost - assortment of the box, what order they're in, even their orientation in the box! I have no problem with Vectis selling these but IMO they should be documented by somebody like Jason first. I mean you wouldn't dig up an Egyptian Tomb and stick it straight on eBay without doing some research first!

Neither can I mate, this sort of thing happens so rarely these days.

Wonder if it would be possible to put together some sort of list of questions regarding some of the details about the find and fire it off to Vectis, and some pics of the items before they're removed from the shipping cases nearer the time. This will of course be at the discretion of Vectis and the seller.

Just so the find is catalogued in as much detail as poss before all the items are scattered to the four winds.

Personally, I'd like to know how these ended up unknown for so long!

This is probably the most amazing and important Palitoy Star Wars find ever. I agree Vectis need to properly photgraph it before it's split up and put out for sale. I understand why they don't want us to know before hand what's in there. I'm guessing if nothing has been touched inside it will be 4 full sets. Would love to know how they have been packed etc.

Here's a pic of the new Palitoy death star I used to own. Interesting the tape seals had dried up and come off as indeed had the one sealing the bag inside. The canopy bubble had also yellowed. That one also came indirectly from a Palitoy rep.

Over to you Jason, hope they've not already split them up.

Well the last shop stock Death Star that I know of(still the best example I have ever seen) sold privately for 3K around 5 years ago :!:
At the time the price seemed outrageous but today not so much. The example I am talking about still has the large main factory bag fully sealed where as the tape has died up on the smaller accessory bag. Box is near perfect with minuscule shelf wear 8)
