AFA U GRADE- so **** them!

Does UKG?

I think they'll do a mailer from a sealed mailing box but left in the Baggie. I'm 99% certain Steve said they won't open a moc for a U grade.

As far as I know UKG U grades. I seem to remember seeing some, but I can't find a pic right now.

Star Wars Vintage/Modern Figures U Graded (Uncirculated) £14.99

I would love to see a grading company take a stand against U grading.

To be honest if they are only U-grading modern figures then who cares - at £14.99 each it would be the biggest waste of money going

I think that is supposed to mean Vintage and modern figures not the vintage modern figure. :)

I found an example on ebay.co.uk

Thats no good then - having seen some of the recentl posts from Robbie then I think the U-grade fad is calming down a bit so hopefully Steve can take a bit of a stand without losing much in the way of business

I have used UKG about 5 times and I have used AFA about ten times.
UKG are more generous with the gradings as got 90s which AFA would have only graded 85
UKG cases look pretty neat but are slightly easier to scratch, UKG also dont charge higher prices for items that are more expensive which is a plus. but if its a cheap item then AFA prices actually work out slightly cheaper.
And great service.

Trying to sell UKG items though and end up getting less for the item than when it wasnt graded where that wouldnt happen with AFA.

Also I have got items back within 3 weeks of sending it off to AFA where occasionally its been longer to get items back from UKG which is the only reason I use AFA more now as if im going to wait the same amount of time might as well use the more known company.

If UKG speed up their turnaround so you get the item back within 10 days of sending it off as only need 1 day either way for next day delivery then I would continue to use them.

Surely if Steve was worried about taking a stand on U grading he just wouldn't offer the service, even if it did cost him some business? Otherwise he is just going with the trends of the market if he stops because there is no money to be made by doing it.

it,s the resale value i was talking about, it sounds like lots of people will be gutted when they start selling up.

Steve (UKG) will U grade, but ONLY if the packaging is badly damaged from what I know & beyond the point of being able to score say a 60.

UV cases are IMO a waste as what if you get crystallization type mould on the figure?.

But I do agree that AFA are easier to sell on & that the UKG cases scratch slightly easier, but only slightly.

I personally only ever use UKG as they are collectors that care for what they are doing rather than a company just employing folk to do a task.

As with most mould I think heat is the key factor not UV to kill them.

Sorry should of made myself a little clearer James - I mean what if they get it & you want to give the figure the sun treatment to reverse the process? - bit fooked if they are in UV cases (I presume?)

That X-Wing is pretty bad to be fair. :|

AFA: Will hold value if not increase the value of certain items if they grade highly. Long and costly because items are being shipped abroad.

UKG: Friendly, professional service. Sometimes takes longer than expected and graded items dont hold their value as well. I had a POTF Yak Face MOC graded by UKG and when I came to selling it I struggled. I was really surprised as it had subs of 80/80/90. On a side note, Steve at UKG is a great guy to deal with and if you need custom acrylic cases etc. then he is way more flexible than AFA.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

To be honest with you, by the end you had dropped it to such a great price that if you had cracked it out of the case, it could have sold for me, if it had got the overall 85 grade i would have taken it as a massive bargain instead of paying twice as much for my 85, could have had a ton load of money left as the card defo looked better than 80.

A friend of mine has just been chatting to me on the phone and he mentioned this thread about the X-Wing we did ages ago for some one this is the first I have seen of the thread as I would have mentioned something sooner.
I wanted to point out to everyone that this is NOT a U graded X-Wing if you look at the label it is just an 85 grade not U85.
The box he sent it in was never sealed he sent it in to be graded as loose but this did not come out of a sealed box, I am not sure why he said in his listing that it was taken out of a sealed box because if this was the case it would have achieved a U grade.
Also this X-Wing has been on our featured wall on our website which also states that he sent it in for loose grading and it achieved 85%
Hope this clears this up as you all know our stance on U grading.

Steve :D
