Mate, I absolutely LOVE this! I had seen it before without knowing it was your work and was so tempted. The one thing that stopped me was the lack of plastic parts and proper box. Don't want much, do I?

Have you come up with a solution for the plastic parts? I'm not up with tech around reducing gear (such as the one you used for this) but what about 3D scanner and printer? Would work for the guns and base for them but probably not for the canopy. Although with that perhaps it would produce a block suitable for vacuum forming some clear plastic?

Anyway, best of luck with it. It's bloody brilliant. All we need now is for Christian to come up with a dome shaped case for it (and the big one!)

The one on ebay isn't mine, I just posted it as it's the same idea ( although I stole the idea from Nick McCarthy after seeing his work in a Steve Sansweet book). I thought if people like this it's a fair price for it due to the amount of time it takes to assemble these.

The ebay one looks pretty good although maybe a bit shiny, and it's also a shame they didn't use an off white cardboard to mount the artwork onto as I found that looks more like the original. As for the plastic parts I think the only way to go in RP and is something I've thought about doing but never got around to it. My original Death Star is in storage so I can't get to the parts to scan them at the moment but may get to it at a later point (you'll notice I used metal clips on mine to assemble it instead of black stickers like the one on sale.

It'll be interesting to see if these sale but I'd probably go for one if I hadn't already built one.

Ah, OK. I did think the one you did looked better, but couldn't nail down why, other than the box.

Any chance of knocking out a few more. Would certainly pay a bit more if a box was involved :)

I do have one on the go but it's reserved if I ever get around to finishing it

These really do take a lot of time to cut out and score all the parts although I was thinking about getting them laser cut possibly. I will let you know though if I get more on the go and thanks for the comments :D

Ian

Cool! Well if you ever do then please put me on the list for one. I think I need this at work to while away the lunch break....

Thanks for the interest although I've had one on the go for someone else for the last 8 months and it's still not finished yet

If I figure out a quicker way of producing them then I'll let everyone know.

I'd be interested too. I don't normally ask for much but some inch sized stormtroopers to go with it would be cool!

The scale was built around these figures ( although my son was happy to squeeze his lego ones into it until I bought him the lego Death Star for Christmas this year :D )

Well that answers my question about scale compared to the galactic heroes figures.

Awesome work by the way, truly awesome.

Thanks guys, Action Fleet are the way to go I thought although some Rapid Prototype mini first 12 figures would be truly amazing.....humm, maybe another project me thinks!
