Is there some big wrestling thing on tonight Craig?
Heard ads for it all week on the radio, some 'royal rumble' or 'battle royal' thing?

You gonna watch it/or did you watch it and was it any good?

It's only the biggest event of the year "Wrestlemania"

It's on pay per view tonight but I'm not paying Ã'£15 for it so I have obtained a copy instead so I will have to wait until Tuesday to watch it. 8)

I remember getting all excited about wrestlemania's when I was a kid, used to love the times when they dumped 30 odd blokes in a ring at the same time and let them (pretend to) beat lumps out of each other.

Ã'£15 does seem steep though!

no, because even as a kid i knew it was little more than pre orchestrated dance routines. it teaches violence to children , with grown men apparently knocking the **** out of each other and no real damage caused. thats great until some 8 year old decides to do some flying jump on another kid and break his ****ing bones

maybe if was advertised purely as entertainment and not as some sort of sport , but it just promotes unrealistic and glorified violence  and "wankers "

Aye but how many 8 year olds have watched god knows what worse on DVD?

Your right though, the vast majority of the people in it are wankers, but then so are 95% of the premiership footballers.

It was a good laugh when your younger, not sure I could watch it now though, but Craig likes it (better he watchs that than Kelly, SURELY? )

Saying it teaches violence to kids is the biggest load of crap I have ever heard !! Millions of kids have watched the shows over the years but because there have been a couple of casualties in the past it is always deemed dangerous by the press. They ignore the fact that all of the other kids actually have brains to not try and do some of the moves.

For the last 10 years it has been described as "sports entertainment" as on every program they do "don't try this at home" message.

So it's okay for kids to watch boxing because it's a sport?

Or it's okay to watch footballers throwing elbows at each other or doing sliding tackles with there studs showing or stamping on other players?

yes, because if a boxer lands a punch and it knocks someone out it shows that hitting someone in the face hurts and can cause harm. the wrestlers dont make contact most of the time and have special equipment ( sprung stages etc) to absorb falls. a young and impressionable mind cant tell the difference unless its explained to them as unreal. its not the violence that makes it dangerous mate its the pretending itd real that does...... plus its a right load of bollocks

That makes zero sense. :?

So it's okay for a kid to watch someone get hurt in a boxing match because it's real. However watching somebody pretend to be hurt in a wrestling match is "teaching violence to kids"?

The overall "effect" in both of these "fights" for the so-called young and impressionable kids watching at home is that somebody has got hurt in the process, whether the participants are acting or not does not come into the equation.

perhaps i am not explaing it properly mate. they are both wrong to show little kids, its just the wrestling is more dangerous as kids could get the impression that throwing someone around a ring, jumping on their head and repeatedly hitting them seems to cause little damage as the opponent gets up again afterwards( because he was not actually getting hit) and is ok to do to thiers mates as it doesn't hurt.

you may not agree with it but do you understand what i mean

I know what you mean Jay, and I am amazed that someone on this site has put forward a reasoned and rational argument about a subject, let alone the perils of glorified violence

Will Jabba now be chiming in with a warning about granny porn, and how it can affect your spelling

I know what you are saying but not every kid will watch a show then go and repeatedly hit their friends with a steel chair you know !!

I have watched wrestling since I was around 5 years old with the British stuff and then the US versions from 1990 and I have never injured anyone. Have I tried any moves? Yes, but I know that doing them to a certain extent will injure the other person and the vast majority of young fans are aware of that.

I'm sure most playground fights involve punching and general scuffling and not dropkicks, DDT's, powerbombs and suplexes !!

You cannot protect kids all the time. It's like people who blame video games for making kids go "over the edge" and turning them into nutters who go around killing people for no apparent reason.

Now those are terms I haven't heard for a long long time! :D
Although, what's a "powerbomb"?

The amount of steroids most of them guys are packing I'd be surprised if they have seen 'their bits' for years!

dont want to protect them , i think kids should fall down , how are they supposed to learn to get back up again if they dont. video games dont make you violent, but you play project gotham racing or gran turismo for a few hours and then get in a car  its like F1 on the A17

Hard for me to drive like an F1 driver in a 1998 Rover 214, on it's second engine, with pish brakes!

How was Wrestlemania then Craig, copied dvd worth waiting for?
