Why is eBay UK ripping us off?

I listed a few video games on eBay USA last night as they are American ones and nobody on eBay UK seemed interested (even with worldwide shipping, a lot of 'foreigners' don't bother checking international sales.)

I was surprised to see that all listings were free, even with a high buy it now or start price, and also it was free to upload as many photos as I liked (up to 12.)

Why does eBay UK still rip us off to add more than one photo, and charge us to list anything over 99p?

Well that's a eye opener & a great big kick in the ball sacks, I did not realize that Edd

Its like everything else I presume though, just compare the petrol costs from UK to US as a perfect example, we have a long history of getting shafted so why would those that can change there ways :| **** init

Yes but proud to be British

All things relative, I'd rather have the rain and cold and taxes, and go on holiday for a bit of sun

As Dickie 3 put it.......

This royal throne of kings, this scepter'd isle,

This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,

This other Eden, demi-paradise,

This fortress built by Nature for herself

Against infection and the hand of war,

This happy breed of men, this little world,

This precious stone set in the silver sea,

Which serves it in the office of a wall,

Or as a moat defensive to a house,

Against the envy of less happier lands,

This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England

I can't answer that. Didn't know they didn't charge tho i do know the 2 sites do work differently and have slightly different rules. I was surprised to find that on ebay.com sellers are allowed to charge postage plus "my time" which seems to be a common US trend. I find it outrageous. You are not allowed to do this on ebay.uk i've heard that straight from the horses mouth when a guy tried to overcharge me for shipping stating "yeah but my time costs money too". Disgraceful.

By 'listed on ebay.com' do you mean you opened a new ebay account stating your address as a US one? How does it work listing on .com. I know one seller i buy from lists all their stuff in $s even tho they are UK based. Never been sure what they benefit from it... now i may have a clue.

All you need to do is log in on .com instead of .uk, the only downside is you really have to include free shipping (as with the UK site it sets a low max shipping cost) and make it very clear in the description that you're based in the UK. It definitely works if you think your items will appeal to the US market, I've sold several items within hours that hadn't sold in months on the UK site.

Maybe it's because it's such a big country. It could be hours to the nearest post office.

Yeah i know but this just opens up so many grey areas with what you're being charged. Once guy can pop next door to post your item and yet still claim he drove 300 miles and you owe him $100 in petrol. If you can't get to a post-office it's not really the buyers responsibility to buy your train, bus, plane ticket so you can get to one. Also i've heard some say, yeah but it takes time out of my day and my time costs money. (i want to beat those people to death with a medium size parcel)
For me, when YOU decide to sell something YOU take on the responsibility of posting it to whoever wins it. And in this day and age where FedEx or UPS can do a door to door service there's no excuse.

After selling a bunch of stuff on Ebay recently, the first for a long time mind you I feel the same way Pete. The gaul of some people on that site is staggering at times. Sold a boxed Falcon to a bloke that lived 15 mins away, took him two weeks to finally get his arse in gear and on the morning of the pickup he messaged me asking if I could knock $10 off the price because he was paying cash and saving me Paypal fees. I reminded him that I was allowing him to pick the item up hence saving him nearly $30 in postage and if he wanted to pay via paypal I would be happy to re- invoice him and post the item. Wanker

We currently don't pay to list items here either and we can include up to 12 pics with free gallery photo and zoom option included we have had an increase in final value fees though. Really feel for you blokes, if you're not getting shafted by your postal system then Ebay is there to flog a few bucks more.

Isn't this just another way of our American cousins wanting us to tip them?
