I hear a lot of people raving about some of the Clone Wars series but then saying that others parts are not so good.

I've only ever seen the film, which I liked. Would probably pick up some DVDs from Amazon, but what to start with? Figuring I could watch with the young lad as he enjoys all things Star Wars too.

If you guys could advise me please :)

In my opinion, the film is one of the weakest episodes of the whole show. It was the first, and the show improved (animationwise) throughout the years.

I´d say pick them all (1 movie, 5 Season and 1 Bonus season "The Lost Missions"). They may not be flawless but fun nevertheless. It´s Star Wars in the end, right?
You´ll have real fun with most episodes (to me, there are some than top the prequels) and yes, perhaps, you´ll get bored too with a few of them.
But overall, I´d say the show was pretty good, and a good warm-up for Star Wars Rebels this year.
(amazing voices in the show: Simon Pegg, Jon Favreau, David Tenant, Katee Sackhoff, Seth Green, Tim Curry...)

Plus, your boy will love it!

Season 1:

Ambush
Lair of Grievous
Hostage Crisis

Season 2:

Holocron Heist(First part of a 3 part arc)
Landing Point Rain (2nd part of a 5 part arc)
Grievous Intrrigue (1st part of a 2 part arc)
Voyage of Temptation (2nd part of a 3 part arc)
Cat and Mouse

Season 3
Clone cadets and Arc Troopers (2 part arc)
Nightsisters, Monster and Witches in the Mist (3 parts out of 3 continued in later seasons)

Season 4

Darkness on Umbara, The General, Plan of Dissent, Carnage of Krell (4 out of 4 part arc)
Massacre, Bounty, Brothers ( out of part arc- continuation from nightsisters arc)

Season 5
Revival, Eminence, Shades of Reason, The Lawless 4 out of 4 part arc, continuation of nightsisters)
Sabotage, The Jedi who knew to much, To catch a Jedi, The Unknown (4 out of 4 part arc)

Season 6
The Lost one, Voices, Destiny, Sacrifice, (4 out of 4 part arc)

I'd give them all (121 episodes a watch)- they are all good fun and well made. Theres a few that Lucas has added some nonsense to, but for the most part and especially with a child- its all good.

Sounds right up my street as well, some quality watch time here, never watched any of the clone wars ...so another SW fix for me :D

Looks awesome 8)

Hadn't realised the quality of the animation, and the action scenes were so good, got some catching up to do now
Cheers for posting the info and clip Grant

Well Barry, you've opened up another SW avenue for me now  cheers for putting the thread up, oh and my Mrs says thanks as well

Remember two series of the clone wars, there are.

The Genndy Tartakovsky series, which is short and sweet, but there are some good moments.

This leads directly into ROTS and you get to see why Grevious has a nasty cough and the kidnap of palpatine which kicks off the film.

The Clone wars film then of course leads into this, check the previews out.

Depending how old your son is, there is a lot of murder and killing in the series. My fave arc is the Darth Maul stuff.. brilliant but brutal.

I enjoyed this, especially Anakins dream/trials with the evil growing robotic hand.

Wow! This sounds great :) Like I said, the film was ok. Quite enjoyed it. So if that was the weakest part then the rest must be fantastic.

From what's been said I should just go get hold of the lot. Is there a boxed set?

Thanks a lot for all the advice. Mike - i'm sure the Mrs will watch it with you :? ... ...

Pretty sure there must be a Box Set with all five seasons. I believe the movie goes on its own.
But the Bonus Content (AKA 6th season) "The Lost Missions" is not released yet on DVD/BD. I take we´ll get it perhaps around September, if not them Christmas time.

Just read a few reviews on the series some say that seasons 1 and 2 aren't great. People who have seen this, what do you think? Might mean the difference between me buying a box set or just skipping seasons 1 & 2

I am reviewing the whole show myself, like a warm-up for Rebels. (After such big recent announcements I need some SW dose  )

I am at mid 2nd season now. I don´t think 1&2 are bad and 3,4 and 5 are great. In my opinion the good episodes are spread across the whole show. I quite like some episodes in 1 and 2 (very interesting premises) as I got utterly bored with some episodes in the other ones, specially season 5 (awful story arcs there too).

Besides, if you start from the beginning you can see the development not only of some characters like Ahsoka Tano, but the show itself.

What about if like the last seasons? then you´ll want to have the first ones too, but you won´t buy the boxset then.

(PS: apologies for any spelling mistakes  )

It does get better a the show goes on. But its all fine.

thanks for that. Probably go buy the box set then. Found some cheap ones on Ebay. At least if i do get bored I can flip the set.

Was just watching this. Looks like the very first TV episode

Even though the animation is ropey I thoroughly enjoyed what I saw (didn't have time to view the whole thing). Amazing the difference to the later show

That one is not the first episode, but the first season!

That show was two seasons (1 hour each):

1st season: 10/12 mini episodes (2 or 3 minutes each).

2nd season: 5/6 episodes (10/12 minutes each).

The whole show: around two hours.

This is a whole different series to the Clone Wars CGI animated series. I have this on DVD and cannot remember it being on TV (I am sure it must have at some point).

Not everyone's cup of tea (ropey/stylised animation) but I think they do a better job of portraying the confused Anakin than the prequels and the CGI Animated series.

I've just finished watching all 6 series and I'll go along with everyone else and say that they better as they go along……well up to season 4 (which I thought was the strongest of them all). Season 5 really does have some problems in both story telling and animation but the second half of it does get better. I never realised that the sixth season was made up of lost missions but everything seemed to improve with those episodes and get back on track. I think watching them from the start is really the way to go, especially if you liked the feature. I remember going to the cinema to see the feature and being pretty much the only person in there

Also I really enjoyed the first two drawn series when they came out and have been trying to find them on youtube so a big thanks for posting them up :D
