I'm sure this topic has been raised before ,but just incase Ide thought Ide ask

For me it was the coronett elephant and castle opening weekend ,77 was a great year for not only this but we had the jubilee street party at the bottom of east street market 1977 a great year !! The odeon has gone now but I'm sure the abc across the road is still there ! Happy days back in the day :D

February 1978, my Dad took me for my 6th Birthday as a treat. Odean just north of Portsmouth Hampshire

I didn't really understand the film. All I could remember was Darth Vader (badie in black), Princess Leia (princess to be rescued in white) R2 & C3P0 (Good Robots), Luke Skywalker (Good guy), TFP's (bad guys who flew spaceships), Chewbacca (hairy monster  )

Don't remember any other characters at all.

78, and my mum said it was the first thing that ever shut me up as a three year old :)

Found a great website whilst looking for the name of the one I first saw Star Wars in, which turns out to be the ABC cinema on Lime Street in Liverpool.

This is mine:

That pic is really old before ABC took it over but you can tell it's the same building. It's still empty now. Wonder if there's a storeroom inside full of posters etc

cottage road cinema ,headingley, Leeds
And it's still open today, with only one screen.
How great is that ,keep going there so they dont get wiped out by bloody uci cinemas :D

Granada Cinema, Walthamstow. 78 I'm guessing.

I can remember getting ready to leave with my brother. Can't actually remember any of the film though

So, what's all this Star Wars things about then?

I don't remember the first time I watched Star Wars. :? Born in 1980 so to young to remember I suppose. I know I had the toys before I watched any of the films and can't remember not having any Star Wars toys.

Odeon in Stoke-on-Trent, March 1978. Now a Theatre, I saw Annie get your Gun there recently and sat in the exact same spot. Obviously the screen has gone and the seats are new, but the deco is exactly as it was back then.

I must have been 5 or 6 at the time, my dad took me to the cinema, not sure which one, in Liverpool certainly, i was gobsmacked and as soon as i got home i remember drawing tie fighters and x wings and vader, good times

Some fund memory's being shared here. To be honest the first time I remember watching Star Wars was properly 1990 on ITV feeling really annoyed that they showed the news halfway through the movie...

1977, Odeon Cinema Peckham.

I remember them having some of the toys behind shutters in the foyer and I bugged my dad for over a week before he took me to a local toyshop to buy my 1st figure (Darth Vader)

Seconded. Born in 1979 and Star Wars was always part of my life up to my very earliest memories. I do remember having Star Wars on VHS recorded off the T.V. and could quote all the 80's beer ads as well as the film!

Was that the Big screen or one of the smaller ones on the other side of the road?

I miss that place (the big screen) was always a special feeling going in there rather than the multi-screen building :D

It was the single screen on other side of the shopping centre ,the abc tripple screen was on the the side of the shopping centre ( Saw superman there I came out thinking I could fly !) with the giant charlie Chaplin ! Is he still there ? The bus stops were outside both cinemas ,love it

yep...the Charlie Chaplin pub is still there (student bar now I think). Only local cinema left is one in Peckham where the old Sainsbury's used to be (besides Woolworths)...terrible place.

Luckily I'm living in Penge now and we have a decent cinema in Beckenham like the old days.
