When it's not possible to strangle someone through Facebook

I've read the opinions from other's here and on that other forum  on the Pros and Cons of Facebook and it's potential impact on the SW collecting community. I've devoted too much time to that site and I'll be the first to admit.

I joined Facebook not even 2 years ago because a fellow collector said come on over to Facebook, there are many collectors. I had not liked the idea of Facebook due to bad experiences years back with it so I yielded...at first but then joined. I've watched many people in the relatively short time come and go. I've watched prices soar and I've just about come to full circle on why I didn't want to re-join in the first place.

Last year at some point, as I was seeing the ever so great influx, of SW fans joining Facebook and making stupid, ill advised and uneducated comments about so many things they were ignorant to I decided to take on on or at least try to take on a more back seat approach. Try to be an advocate of sorts against scammers and help these new found collectors either young or old that may deal on Facebook with selling or buying. I suppose I was/ am trying to be selfless which is my nature.

A couple hours ago someone actually had the audacity to minimally lecture me on how I was to perform my duties as an Admin. Of course late night, for me, their private message woke me up not with one message but 3 in a row. As the phone then dinged 3 times, due to my not shutting the dam messenger function off, Half asleep I attempted to console this poor bastard by letting him know it was late and not a good hour and we'll handle the issue later. I of course ended my response with good night but they saw fit to reply with a 'I didn't expect you to answer me right now'. Gotta have that last word don't cha?

So now I'm awake, go to the computer so I may research for the whine I received, as stated previously I tend to be selfless, I write that just in case your saying screw that I wouldn't have got up  The complainant is an Admin from some other dam group, he was very proud to leave a signature expressing that fact  , out of the hundreds of SW groups and I suppose because of that I should have some un-written respect for him even at an un godly hour for me at least.

The complaint pertains to some mystery person, it's a mystery due to the fact he never did let me know who the complaint was about, had left him Negative feedback back in November in my very popular, as he put it, feedback group. The keen individual doesn't even have a file in my feedback group and was added to my group 2 weeks ago as well. The catch is in this case is that he was added by a scammer that had some some crap on Facebook in the past. That scammer had slipped in the group in the past and I just plainly didn't see it? It happens at times :x

Well due to my unlike admin responses to the complainant he then threatened me with posting our private message in his group for all to see how unprofessional I am as an admin . I of course briefly stated that Facebook does not have an impact on my finances or general livelihood so be my guest. That sealed the deal  They then let me know the deed one done. I suppose the reaction expected was that I would be apologetic. Same thing happened to me last year, well it was a relative situation of sorts. Last JAN. I sold someone down under a carded figure and the bubble had a minor flaw. I don't stalk Facebook and the did not see the guys messages over a 2 day period. At that point I was deemed a Scammer   and he posted his opinion of that. I decided to check Facebook and was inundated with messages asking what's going on? There was an all out duel on that post about me between people who knew nothing of me and those that did know me and that supported me. There was private message **** slung that involved someone that was not involved in the deal too. 2 things resulted from that 1) The person with that complaint told me privately that social media can be for you or against you and in this case he was in control and 2) I lost my privilege of being an Admin in that group which turned out to be good in the end.

I want to help collectors, I'd like to do well like that. I realize I do not owe anyone squat but that's me. Some of you have an ability that I envy of basically blowing things off...telling people to take a hike (sorry my UK insults are limited to pretty much none :?: ). I will say this, even though I like to help other's I do have a tendency to become outraged and want to strangle someone when they do not have the ability to communicate in an adult fashion. When the back and forth messages are misconstrued and taken out of context (mostly found with F-Tards and young adults). The things that basically happen while trying to communicate through writing and not talking.

I'm just venting here. Not looking for answers but maybe just maybe this soapbox post will have others see, if they are considering getting involved in Facebook, that it may not be worth your time. Facebook/ Social media gives you that instantaneous, for the most part, answer but it does have a tendency at times to create undue stress over nothing.

Facebook has helped me to recognize self righteous pompous collectors and has helped with me with connecting with other great guys that share our hobby. In a sense it has been a necessary evil with those connections I've made. But I'll take this forum anyday over that ****.

-Regards and thanks for giving this a read.

Oh I have a pretty foul mouth, I'm a Sailor for God's sake, and wasn't really sure if I could use too much vulgar language? A couple words I used but nothing detrimental. To what extent can I use vulgarity in the future?

**** bastard twaty cuntibollocks, well that answers one question for you Paul, as for the other re facebook, you heard my thoughts already on that score mate & after all life is far to fleeting to let yourself dump extra unneeded stress on your plate, that's why I post here, not on FB & only once in a blue moon on RS if I am asked or someone needs help I know I can be of.

Good luck with social media, you'll need it! :?

As far as I am concerned Facebook is not an appropriate place for 'like minded' collectors, in the long run it only brings pain...

I can imagine it is good for organising and promoting events, maybe even promoting sales (I would rather not promote a sale on Facebook though).

Facebook is basically a good idea abused by the egos and jealousy of its users, your experience is testimony to this, its a shame as all the good users and groups out there are dwarfed by the majority of idiots and to top it all its tied to your real name and profile... One big head ache.

Sorry to hear about the stress its caused you, good luck with FB in the future. :D

I had something very similar happen on here only a few weeks ago. I still don't know what got the guys knickers in a twist, but from me agreeing that he actually had a point he went off a complete tangent and started calling me all the names of the day and posting our PM conversation. Apparently us Mods and Admins are supposed to know, and be responsible, for every single rule in the forum and to be on-line 24/7. Heaven forbid we should be away doing something like, working, or spending time our families!

Some people are just wrapped too tight for well, life!

Ohh and for the record, swearing is encouraged on here. Well, by me anyway!

My feelings are well known on this subject. From the morons,,,to the 12 backs limelighted daily...to the cock measuring contests...to the constant glut sales items priced 20 times what they are worth....to the so-called experts.. to the gee look at all these items I found at a thrift store.....and yes to those who will drag your name thru the dirt because it is a good platform with little to no control....................I agree it is becoming old really quick.

I run a FB group, but you will find very little of any of the above going on...but none of it holds a candle to this forum and hell RS is even better than all that.

I am tired of the guy with the shipping boxes...I am tired of the guy with the fake boxes...I am tired of the AFA brigade..I am tired the daily limelights of the same stuff over and over again.

None of the above will you find here!!!!!!!!!

Cheers all, and your responses say exactly what I knew and had forgotten about. Get the **** away from Facebook or at least don't make that dam place a habit.

I have now left most of the FB groups. No plans of returning :D

I check about 4 groups now. Others I'm a member of but don't follow. I've been added to more groups than I care to mention.
Let them stay there. The forums are the way to go. The only advantage of fb that I can see is the easy way to load images.

Sorry to hear that..............

better enjoy the best time here Swfuk

thanks god, i am more than 40 and have no Facebook

facebook as Social Media or as I like to call it Unsociable and Needier, is fine for those that like it, horses for courses.
Not for me.

Stick to this forum, happy days :D

Try running a fb group with 14000 members...

I'll get me coat.

Jason

 Jason whose group do you think I made this comment in reference too? "I lost my privilege of being an Admin in that group which turned out to be good in the end"

When that happened there were maybe 2.5k-3k members. No offense... I rarely even browse there anymore. It's a MAD HOUSE

Todd's down to 4 groups, just last week I scrubbed my groups and mine is now going to dwindle to about the same amount as Todd's too.

You are ALL right on everything too. I just got lost  but now I'm still lost but at least with a better recognition of what's best once again

I still have a few more groups to leave. I will continue to run my group and co-admin JoeY's bootleg group (Both great groups and not full of the things that bother me). Other than that I am staying in about two other SW groups that seem to lack some of the non-sense...AFA crap..and constant limelighting of said crap. I am actually now on a crusade to help revive the forums.

Being a Fb Admin is a thankless task. I'm only in 4 groups too. My wall still looks like a star was feed with all the star wars friend requests.
