I've read the opinions from other's here and on that other forum  on the Pros and Cons of Facebook and it's potential impact on the SW collecting community. I've devoted too much time to that site and I'll be the first to admit.
I joined Facebook not even 2 years ago because a fellow collector said come on over to Facebook, there are many collectors. I had not liked the idea of Facebook due to bad experiences years back with it so I yielded...at first but then joined. I've watched many people in the relatively short time come and go. I've watched prices soar and I've just about come to full circle on why I didn't want to re-join in the first place.
Last year at some point, as I was seeing the ever so great influx, of SW fans joining Facebook and making stupid, ill advised and uneducated comments about so many things they were ignorant to I decided to take on on or at least try to take on a more back seat approach. Try to be an advocate of sorts against scammers and help these new found collectors either young or old that may deal on Facebook with selling or buying. I suppose I was/ am trying to be selfless which is my nature.
A couple hours ago someone actually had the audacity to minimally lecture me on how I was to perform my duties as an Admin. Of course late night, for me, their private message woke me up not with one message but 3 in a row. As the phone then dinged 3 times, due to my not shutting the dam messenger function off, Half asleep I attempted to console this poor bastard by letting him know it was late and not a good hour and we'll handle the issue later. I of course ended my response with good night but they saw fit to reply with a 'I didn't expect you to answer me right now'. Gotta have that last word don't cha?
So now I'm awake, go to the computer so I may research for the whine I received, as stated previously I tend to be selfless, I write that just in case your saying screw that I wouldn't have got up  The complainant is an Admin from some other dam group, he was very proud to leave a signature expressing that fact  , out of the hundreds of SW groups and I suppose because of that I should have some un-written respect for him even at an un godly hour for me at least.
The complaint pertains to some mystery person, it's a mystery due to the fact he never did let me know who the complaint was about, had left him Negative feedback back in November in my very popular, as he put it, feedback group. The keen individual doesn't even have a file in my feedback group and was added to my group 2 weeks ago as well. The catch is in this case is that he was added by a scammer that had some some crap on Facebook in the past. That scammer had slipped in the group in the past and I just plainly didn't see it? It happens at times :x
Well due to my unlike admin responses to the complainant he then threatened me with posting our private message in his group for all to see how unprofessional I am as an admin . I of course briefly stated that Facebook does not have an impact on my finances or general livelihood so be my guest. That sealed the deal  They then let me know the deed one done. I suppose the reaction expected was that I would be apologetic. Same thing happened to me last year, well it was a relative situation of sorts. Last JAN. I sold someone down under a carded figure and the bubble had a minor flaw. I don't stalk Facebook and the did not see the guys messages over a 2 day period. At that point I was deemed a Scammer   and he posted his opinion of that. I decided to check Facebook and was inundated with messages asking what's going on? There was an all out duel on that post about me between people who knew nothing of me and those that did know me and that supported me. There was private message **** slung that involved someone that was not involved in the deal too. 2 things resulted from that 1) The person with that complaint told me privately that social media can be for you or against you and in this case he was in control and 2) I lost my privilege of being an Admin in that group which turned out to be good in the end.
I want to help collectors, I'd like to do well like that. I realize I do not owe anyone squat but that's me. Some of you have an ability that I envy of basically blowing things off...telling people to take a hike (sorry my UK insults are limited to pretty much none :?: ). I will say this, even though I like to help other's I do have a tendency to become outraged and want to strangle someone when they do not have the ability to communicate in an adult fashion. When the back and forth messages are misconstrued and taken out of context (mostly found with F-Tards and young adults). The things that basically happen while trying to communicate through writing and not talking.
I'm just venting here. Not looking for answers but maybe just maybe this soapbox post will have others see, if they are considering getting involved in Facebook, that it may not be worth your time. Facebook/ Social media gives you that instantaneous, for the most part, answer but it does have a tendency at times to create undue stress over nothing.
Facebook has helped me to recognize self righteous pompous collectors and has helped with me with connecting with other great guys that share our hobby. In a sense it has been a necessary evil with those connections I've made. But I'll take this forum anyday over that ****.
-Regards and thanks for giving this a read.
Oh I have a pretty foul mouth, I'm a Sailor for God's sake, and wasn't really sure if I could use too much vulgar language? A couple words I used but nothing detrimental. To what extent can I use vulgarity in the future?
