I don't follow much news from back home so am none the wiser as to the economy/state of England etc

Pretty much just after I left the recession hit the world (well..the so called recession that hasn't affected anyones spending..) people were losing jobs left right and center back home and things didn't look good!

Kids were bastards up and down the country, crime seemed to be a constant thing in the papers and on the telly and the chances of a first time buyer getting a house was slim to none..

Any improvements or is it still as **** as ever?

That is the best tourism campaign message I've heard in a long time :) Add cold weather and lots of rain, sounds perfect to me  Cricket team is pretty **** too  EDIT Hey I didn't write that- dodgy mods are trying to **** me up

Lol don't get me wrong I still love England but it was in a pretty dire state 2-3 years ago.

I had a few mates working in factories that had cut backs and even the ones working there for 3-4 years got the sack and literally only this year a few of them got another job.. :?

It is still as terrible as ever guys, the economy is still poor and if you believe the tories then we still are on the verge of doing a Iceland (not the supermarket) and now the plan is to make everyone work even later in life

Chavs still rule even though i'v tried hugging a hoodie or 2 they just dont buy it and would rather pull a flick comb out and threaten to do me

Our sports teams are doing ok (football qualified for wc) athletics are looking strong too, cricket we are still pony at (expect anything less?) although we did win the ashes against a very poor ozzy team (they wont ever be that bad again) rugby we are still so so but not terrible and the tide is turning again in our favour.

The best thing we got to cheer about is our armed forces are doing a grand job with **** all equipment and are all heroes in my eyes.

Me and my missus want to move oversea's,any advice?

Cheers stef

That's a big step mate , even if the grass looks greener on the other side!

If you want to move away and not integrate or learn a new language I hear Spain is the place to go

Seriously that pisses me off no end, I think there are more English people than Spanish people living in Spain lol and we make a great impression on them by creating our own communities in their country whilst not even learning "Hola" .. and the cheeky thing is the English people that do just that are moaning about Europeans and Indians moving over to the UK! (at least they learn our language and want to work not just sun it up! )

Anyway, back to your question, my advice would be take a lot of time to decide if thats what you really want to do, think about how it will affect your work and your family and if you are moving somewhere where you will have to learn a new language you must logically address the language barriers and the time it will take you to learn a language (at least enough to get you by)

I also think its very important to have an open mind and try to understand and comply with a countries way of thinking and their customs.

I lived abroad for over 2 years in Spain in the North proper Spain i.e basque country! Victoria, Bilbo and Sans Sebastian before spending the last months working in Catalan country i.e Barcelona.

One thing i can say is North Spain is a world away from the South i.e Costa Del Sols etc.

Up North even if they can speak English they refuse to they are very proud and nationalistic. If you don't attempt to learn Spanish then your ****ed. TBH honest though Spanish is a pretty easy language to learn imo i picked it up pretty quickly.

Jay

BTW England is **** - I am considering going to Canada as i have immediate family out there who can offer me a home and a job.

Wow Jay thats a big move, we know a family here that might be moving to Canada, I hope if thats what you want to do that you feel at home there.

ANY move is a big thing, I think it helps if you can adjust easy and aren't very attached to places/people, it makes leaving them all that easier!

As for the English people that move to Spain - I know four or five different families that are over there and they have done their best NOT to fit in, they go to English shops, they speak English all the time, they live in an exclusively English area..I think its really bad to be honest :(

My wife also has several Spanish friends who live in the heavily English populated parts who for want of a better word despise them :?

I think if you are prepared to at least learn a countries language (even if its the bare minimum) it definitely shows what you are made of, its not an easy thing to do and deserves respect!

Thanks for the advice joe, appreciate it.

I'm thinking of Germany to be honest,my sister lives there and I love the country very much.

Jay - Dont hold back on your feelings mate "england is ****" go for it mate, canada would rock big time!

In most big cities there will be a chinatown, I guess Joe's talking about an English version in Spain :) I agree with: you live in the country, respect it and speak the language. Australia is great :p

Aussie - way too many dangerous things down under for me mate,i'm bloody **** scared of a common house spider so who knows what i'd be like with a black widow, funnelweb and all that nonsense, let alone croc's sharks etc...that said i'd want to visit there one day,on my honeymoon maybe

I cant stand english that go away and expect different cultures to speak english instead of their native language,it's all very arrogant.

I found this lovely piece of text from the net regarding the "benefits" of English people moving to Spain FOR Spanish people..

"The local population where there are many British have learned to be bilingual in English, through contact with them. Many of the stores and restaurants in the Costa del Sol have many Spanish working there who now speak English."

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO if WE move to your country we should be applauded for making YOU learn our language? LOOOOOOL!

My wife has a true phobia of spiders. I don't believe in the supernatural but she can predict spiders. No word of a lie, she'll point somewhere and say there will be a web from here to here and down to there, the spider will be this colour and this big. I **** you not every time she'll be correct within 3 days. She can truly sense them, she'll walk into a room, stall, back out and say spider. Then I have to find the ****ing thing. There will always be one, even if it is tiny. I've tried lying and say I've killed it, & she'll know. If you pretend to have a spider in your hand and threaten her with it you will bleed. She'll bash you with whatever is handy  Back on topic, if you don't like bugs and critters Browny you'd be ****ed in Australia

Plus Browny, from what I've heard they are all a bit too fond of their sisters down there :?

I have been to Oz but I didn't see any really dangerous nasty things! I must admit I am not the best with creepie crawlies lol, anything bigger than a flea scares the **** out of me!

My sister went over and had a black widow on her shoulder, my cousin said " don't move for a sec " and flicked it off! Jesus christ I would have **** myself

" a bit too fond of their sisters down there" that's Tasmania your talking about. Mainland Australia is great  "I didn't see any really dangerous nasty things" you haven't met Josh yet? But seriously its the things you don't see that **** you up. Write me in your will, then go swimming in a few spots where Josh lives  Sharks or Crocodiles take your pick. The snakes are friendly too.

Josh is a combination of Quint from Jaws and crocodile dundee! He can take it, I am a city lad!!

It's like the most dangerous of every species got together and said lets live in Oz, if i lived there I wouldn't leave the house

That's one thing Britain has got going for it, the most dangerous animal is a Chav and his Pitbull
