WHAT WOULD THESE BE WORTH

I recall a Mungo selling on ebay for over £2k a year or so back. They do come up from time to time (theres a Chituhr for sale on RS) but they ain't cheap. God only knows what the carded samples would cost. I wonder how much James Gallo paid for his Vlix sample?

I know nothing about the Droids or Ewoks lines, both came out after I lost interest in SW as a kid so they mean nothing to me now. Like a few others I wouldn't know what the hell they were if I saw them and probably wouldn't even buy them if I saw them in boot sale.

How rare are they then?

They are all first shots or painted hardcopies I think. I know that at least 20 Vlix first shots exist but some of the others like Mungo and Gaff will probably be a lot rarer (less than 5-6???). Not sure really.

Other than the the Droids Fett,R2 nad C3PO....I have no use for these cartoon lines. If I had any of these protos I would unload them quick. Other than rarity, I do not see the appeal of the Vlix figure as he looks about as awesome as the Rancor keeper.

I have a Paploo for sale http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3635

or you can buy an AFA'd one over at Brians Toys http://www.brianstoys.com/store/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=SV3LFPAPLOOC9*AFA1205761

The quantites and value of these have always remained high regardless of what they look like, any unproduced toy creates a lot of demand purely through scarcity.

What is great about this line is that there are examples of these pieces from hardcopy trhough to first shot through to carded samples, which for the die hard character focus collector, the ultimate goal would be to try for the run if it is known to exist.

Some seem to crop up on the marklet more than others in some form or another (Bondo, Chithur and Julpa in last couple of years), but on the whole very few get offered in the open market.

I think there are only two complete sets with collectors in the USA

I think one is from Gus (as in the SWCA)

Will try and locate the display threads from RS

Ok I dug up the thread and here is an interesting bit of info from James Gallo on the number of these sets :

James Gallo: "As far as I know there are 4 Complete UDE sets of 14 figures, however only 2 are complete with all the weapons.
There are 3 additional sets of Ewoks figures again missing some ones and one of which is a carded set."

Wow....now that is rare!

Anyway here is the thread and luckily a lot of the pictures are still active

Isn't it ridiculous that they sell for so much money. I can think of Revenge proofs that sell for £100 that are more rare than that. I used to have a one of a kind Luke Bespin MOC that I probably couldn't have sold for more than £200. It's a shame that items aren't valued on rarity IMO.

items are valued as to what people are willing to pay though!

You only have to see how hyped Fett is to see that theory in action!

But theres relatively few collectors of proofs, most people are in the hobby for the figures so there is obviously more demand. Vlix is an iconic figure and would still be rare (in the scheme of things) if there were a hundred of them, demand would outstrip supply.

That guy on ebay is selling a load of POTF proofs. They are rare but how many collectors would pay even half those prices for cardboard (sub-zero cool as they are).

totally, but it has always been that way.
I'm selling prototypes for less than what most people here see as an acceptable price to pay for Palitoy 12/ 20 and 30 backs which is purely down to nothing other than what's in fashion so to speak.

However to add to Darths last comment, Vlix's are a completley different product to anything that has been released and proofs can be seen as not different enough to the production product as well. Vlix's have always been iconic though and have stood the test of time.

I was thinking about this the other day as all through the 90's boxed 12" IG-88's and Blue Stars were considered up there too, but hardly command no way near the same interest now and it's not like the internet has made them any more widely availble either.

I don't see it as a shame Ed, there's no way I could afford some of my Han Hoth's if price was based on rarity alone. And as the market isn't there for non-logoed Palitoy Han hoths, I can take great satisfaction in knowing that some of my Hans are possibly unique or one of only a handful.

Does anyone have any idea how common first shots are for production figures? Particularly the ESB line?

I've seen Dave's ROTJ 1st shots for sale at what appear to be bargain prices, how many painted Endor Luke's are known to exist?

I think as a future project I could see myself trying to collect a loose 1st shot collection :)

First shots are usuallly the most accesable of prototypes to pick up, however, in relative terms that does not mean they are abundant and easy to find or pick up.
Mine are priced at a level for quick easy sale as am looking to convert the cash for other purchases, but depending on the character, if is painted/ non painted and if it has any first shot accessories (which is REALLY rare to find) will drive the price.

Some characters frequently come on to the market more than others, bizarrely Blue Snag is one of them.

First Shots are a good goal to have for anyone with a character focus, but to get a full set would really be a very long and expensive goal

If you are looking for any specific characters though, drop me a line.
