Howdy ho all, I have been pretty lacking this year in collecting terms i have added only a few items to my small collection due to house renovations, All my money has been going on Kitchens bathrooms and plaster but after a brief 6 months out i decided to start looking round for the final 4 lower end 12 backs to complete my run and prices seem to have mushroomed, are people really spending £1100 on AFA 80s and £3000+ on AFA 85s 12 backs what the ****s going off?
In all seriousness this is a prime example an average luke with a 12 back card for that sort of money?

It does seem to be crazy at the moment.

I initially thought it was just Palitoy going crazy once again but it seems to be across the board.

perhaps a sudden hoard of rich colectors have just entered the scene.

Maybe the recent Disney take over has prompted the rise.

Same thing happened in the early 90's once the first new Star Wars trilogy books were out. More and more people became interested again and the prices shot up. I was getting even Yak face for 50p at car boots sales. Then around 94 even basic figures were going for several pound

Damn that is ****ing crazy, what is so special about this figure and cardback that people would pay £100 more than others

I am wondering if Gary might have hit the nail on the head with an influx of new collectors joining due to Disney's new films, A lot of dross items like the above Luke appear to be going for a lot of money but the prices on EB sets and nicer rarer items dont yet seem to have been as badly affected as the less rare items. Now would seem to be a good time to have a clear out on the lower end of the spectrum :)

I put together a complete set of 12 backs in C7-C8 condition for £1100 just 18 months ago, so it definitely is nuts! There are literally thousands of just graded 12 backs out there, let alone ungraded ones, so you'd have to be pretty retarded to pay those kind of prices.

As is often the case, patience and cunning will likely be rewarded ;)

It also seems that people are hoarding things too. I can't believe how hard I'm finding it to track down MOC ROTJ Han, Leia, and Ben. They were 10 a penny a few years ago, always several on eBay at any one time. Now, none at all!

Han and Leia on rotj and trilogo cards seem rediculously hard to find (though I did just manage to snag a han trilogo and a reasonable price). Luke FB on esb being another pita.

Things often go in waves. Again I can only talk from Palitoy experience but there was a time when you couldn't give away certain Palitoy 12/20 backs (C3P0, Sand person, Walrusman, Snaggletooth) yet recently they seem less available and when they do turn up they have hit the prices that the more sort after 12 backs used to hit.

I think hoarding is a possibility. I reckon People are holding onto things in the hopes that the new films will send prices sky high when loads of new people become interested in star wars.

Of course the fact that they are holding onto them is enough to send prices higher because demand is exceeding supply.

The market may well get flooded in a few years time...as to whether that will lower prices is hard to say.

Damn so it is only because some is trying to earn big money on the items in the next couple of years

Yes June, let us punch that mouse

This has been going on since late October of last year. This was when the Disney announcement was dropped. Since then the prices have climbed higher and higher. There has been lots of records broke and this alone is amazing and good for some aspects of our community. Now as far as a collector.....this sucks. The big ticket items......are so high priced right now that my paycheck catches on fire when I get on the bay. Just from looking. LOL.
