With Christmas on the way I often look at my childhood ships, m falcon, at at, slave one, reb transport, snow speeder and dv tie and have no memory of putting the stickers on any of them :? the only one I vaguely remember is putting the battle damage stickers on my x-wing and we all know how important it was to apply those and then being annoyed that they would not peel off when we were feed up with the look  .

They were all applied quite well and I keep meaning to quiz my mum and dad as to whether they put them on pre Christmas morning opening 79,80,81.
What made me think of this was watching the retro blasters slave one resto seeing the amount of stickers on the sheet. Know way I would have been so carful Christmas morning in the panic to play sw.
What memories do any of you guys have of putting stickers on or were they put on by the elves :)

I don't remember ever applying the stickers, I can remember when and where I bought everything but don't recall a sticker sheet.

I actually thought they came pre applied with the Palitoy stuff for years!

That could be it Markzane most of my stuff is/was Palitoy, so used to seeing all the mib Kenner stuff in peoples collections with the sticker sheets included ???? :?

Bloody great topic mate :)
The "task" of stickers always went to someone older until one Christmas morning I insisted that i wanted to do it.

Well I managed to totally mess up the stickers on my Slave1 - remembering getting really pissed off and as there was no shortage of people saying " I told you so" my mood didn't improve :D

Exactly the same... no recollection of anything except those blasted battle damage stickers. Awful idea!

I have great memories of sitting with my dad and applying them. He always taught me to be very careful so they would fit perfectly into the right place. It must have rubbed off cos I'm a stickler for having things put together correctly

I remember peeling and adding stickers to various Palitoy ships and playsets. Anyone who ever owned a Palitoy Cantina can vouch for how crap the silver door stickers were! And if you added the ones to the top of the bar or table skew-wiff you were stuck with a really crappy-looking set :-) I was always very careful as a child to apply mine straight! And of course there were also stickers to be applied in the Palitoy Droid Factory (gotta get the 3-legged R2 ones on straight!), Darth Vader TIE Fighter, the normal TIE Fighter and X-Wing. In fact, whilst I could be wrong, I don't recall any vintage ships coming with the stickers pre-applied (I know the Palitoy ESB Millennium Falcon certainly didn't).

I distinctly remember actually applying the solar panel stickers to the DV TIE Fighter as a 6 year-old, and whilst I don't own the sticker sheets for any of the Star Wars ships listed above any more, I do have the instructions for a Palitoy Darth Vader TIE Fighter, which clearly say at the top 'Apply Labels using the package as a guide. Align labels carefully before pressing down.'

I supply the evidence below :-)

I put them on myself at 6 am on Christmas day when nobody was up. The ones inside cockpits and the like were a dog's dinner. I remember sitting in the middle of the Star Wars chaos for as couple of hours on my own in silence whilst half asleep.

Maybe I blotted it out as it was so traumatic :D thanks all especially Snaketibe for the photo and proof, still don't remember putting any of the stickers on :)

These days I would have a huge dilemma on my hands with those battle damage stickers. As a kid though there's no way I would leave something that came in the box off my brand new toy.

I don't remember applying stickers but I do remember building a Y wing, making a total bollocks of it and losing those stupid stalk things before Christmas day was finished

I think its strange that some remember and some don't think this may have to be moved to off topic to the unexplained mysteries section

Maybe Palitoy went through a short phase of pre-applying them? I probably have forgotten putting them on myself, but I acquired all the vehicles in a short time in early 1983-and can only remember applying the battle damage stickers to the x-wing too :o

My DV Tie was a star wars box so was earlier all the bigger ships were empire boxes no Jedi boxes from my childhood run :?: :?: very strange :)

Only stickers that I have a clear memory of adding were the battle damaged ones to my X-Wing, so much so, I don't think I applied any of the standard stickers to it... maybe my Mum did that first (?)... Xmas day, sat on my grandparents living room floor with my back against the sofa that my Nan was sat on with my Dad sat opposite in the armchair.

One Christmas I got the Star Destroyer playset as requested.

On Boxing Day, my sister and I were clearing up wrapping paper and sweety boxes, etc when we put the Star Destroyer packaging away. The assembled toy didn't fit back in the box so I didn't want it, aged nine. It was at the very last minute I noticed two clear plastic figure stands taped to the inserts with no mention of them elsewhere. An older kid up the road had yellow ones from the early playsets so I knew what they were.

Whilst I was excited to get them, I figured that these must have been taped to every other bit of brown insert card I threw away at Christmas. As an adult I was pleased to find out I never missed anything.

Thankfully, one of my sticker memories that stands out is the one of not being sure whether I wanted battle damage on my x-wing, so putting the sticker sheet on a shelf for later, but never getting around to making the choice on whether to apply them or not. Turns out indecision is good sometimes :D

I already had a regular X Wing but wanted the later Battle Damaged one because the toy looked cooler on the box with its darker shassy, black engines, and tinted window.

What I got inside the box was the same old **** with an additional sheet of **** stickers. I put the **** stickers on as they were all I was getting. Against the brilliant white toy, the sum of shitness was greater than that of its shitty parts.

Am I right in thinking there's no such thing as a darker Palitoy XWing?

Sounds like you had the same as me... Mine was a white x-wing with no electronics and a sticker in a recess at the back where others had a battery compartment. Packaged with the sheet of battle damage stickers that were most definitely better suited to the grey version, but should have been peelable :D

Getting them wrong with creases all over them and my Dad getting cross because I couldn't wait for him to do them.
