Waste of money?

Anyone here actively collect AFA stuff? If so what do you make of this?

It's a very common Trilogo that can be had for £40 most days, this one might have scored 85 on the card but it does have visible dings too so it's not gem mint but it just made £150+?

I can't even rationally break this down cost wise because it doesn't add up:

£40 figure
£40 grading + shipping?

That is still only an £80 total if you did it yourself!

I don't know where these people buying AFA figures come from, not from this planet that is for sure.

It's madness. As you say Joe £40+ for the moc plus the price of AFAing it. Why you'd pay anymore than that is beyond me. I sold a tri Scout (non AFA) in better condition than that a couple of months back for £55. I'd say it was in AFA85 condition. Which would you buy??

Which did indeed get a grade of 85. (but is now far too expensive)

Yeah, i mean, if Darren has people buying them then fair enough. Good luck to em. But like you, I just don't know where these buyers are coming from. I just can't envisage anyone paying that for a trilogo Biker Scout.

See, I even get that quality is a big factor in asking prices especially for Trilogos but at the same time, if the people selling these high grade figures can find them ungraded, why can't anyone else? In fact to answer that - they can! I can and do, I know loads of other people that collect ungraded as well and there are plenty of really good conditioned Tris out there.

I sometimes think the people that buy into the "only 2 other figures graded this high in the world" bullshit really are missing the bigger picture
and in sidestepping the fun of the hunt for ungraded figures in nice condition are making people rich just because they are too lazy to find them on their own!

Yeah that's madness. I can see people paying silly money for AFA 90s or 95s (100s if they exist) but 80s???! Seriously. There's nothing special about an 80. That's your bog standard condition of anything you can find easily on ebay or on a forum.

I think I would rather have 2 or 3, than 1 in an AFA/UKG case, though.

Lol no idea, I don't personally think they should be more lenient on Trilogos, some 80's look god awful and you wouldn't want to venture into 70/75's!

Ok I am going to see just how many Trilogo Niktos the buyer of that AFA graded one could have purchased for the £145/$230 he spent!

Going up...we are now at FIVE Trilogo Niktos for a combined price of $147!

Best deal yet: £8/$12!
