bit of a fan of the walking dead.. i was a huge fan of the comic and couldn't believe they were going to make it into a TV show.
series 1 - excellent, pretty much comic aside from the end
series 2 - appeared to reflect the inner rumblings of the writers/creators wrestling control, long season that really didn't do much but did show the public that the show is about human behaviour.
series 3 - the governor was loosely similar to his comic counterpart, and they maybe stretched it out a little by spilling out his arc into season 4
series 4 - epic first half and the second half really has made an amazing TV series starting to become the show the comic book threatened.
The Walking Dead is about people development, the zombie apocalypse is the enabler for us to see how this development occurs under intense pressure and scrutiny when its survival of the body and mind. Ricks actions for example wouldn't have been justified if we hadn't followed him from the hospital bed, through his tragedies and inner turmoil through to the neck biting scene. if he did that in episode 1 of season 1 it wouldn't have been a good show. We now have a survivor who truly will do anything, but we have his context. I find that fascinating and my biggest fear would be the show would become a 'monster of the week' show, which would have been so predictable playing off the name but wanting a cheap thrill for the audience. Whilst it has yet to stand up to superior shows such as Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire etc, its getting there and the second half of this season with the physical and meta physical journeys of most key characters has been brilliant.
Who will die next? Sasha or Bob will surely get eaten. These guys must be cannibals. The writers have taken every big situation from the comics and included it so far, why stop now... The clean concentration camp style look to the place was really ****ing eerie (especially for those who have been to Auschwitz etc).
