Has anyone ever done this, or knows how to go about doing it?

Thinking of doing it at some point in the next few weeks

Yep, I've been.

We did most of our holiday in Djerba and booked a jeep safari to the Sahara where we stayed overnight in an oasis in a 5 start tent.

Went through Tatooine on the way there (which apart from the name is frankly a **** hole), we saw the place they used for Annikin's house in Episode 1 and of coure, the Lars homestead interiors on the way back to Djerba.

It was pretty cool travelling though the desert with the star wars soundtrack playing on my headphone.

There are a bunch of guys on rebelscum who have done this in much more detail and seen many more locations than me, so you may get some better advice on there!

The only other thing is will it be safe there given all the political upheaval there has been lately. It's likely to be safer in the main resorts like Djerba etc.

Best of luck!

Jason

Just to add, seeing the Sahara desert and spending time there was as good if not better than visiting the start wars sites. if I was goign again, I'd be doing a 3 day trek on camel with stop offs through the desert.

I don;t have a huge amount of time so may just go to tunis this time round and maybe comeback another yearly specifically to do the Star Wars site.

Looking it up seems it's advisable to hire a jeep and guide

Hey Gary
Drop Jon Aves a line I know he went last year and said it was defo worth a visit, he's got plenty of pics to have a look at.

Drop us a PM if you've lost his mail address

I went to Djerba for a holiday about 10 years ago, ****ing **** hole. Swore never to go back to Tunisia ever again even tried paying to get home early. **** food, **** hotel, **** all to do at night, men leering at my wife......

Was so pissed off even passed up the chance to see the Star Wars sets.

Sorry rant over
