Honestly, my path back into collecting Star Wars again was modern Vintage Collection figures.
A couple of years ago I was in a toy shop with my family and found a Darth Vader on a vintage card. I was like "whoa, they're actually doing these cards still!?!?" Up until then I had only seen Saga Legends, Clone Wars whatever modern card variation you can come up with, and it left me totally unimpressed, but to see that black Kenner card ever in a toyshop again??? It was an emotional moment to say the least

Another interesting I found out after I bought was that i wasn't able to open it. Not physically obviously, but looking at the bubble on the card with the figure inside...i couldn't get myself to actually open it. At this point I wasn't aware that mint-on-card was a collecting term. Actually I wasn't familiar with toy collecting at all. I knew I had my old Star Wars figures stacked together in a box with a lot of other toys from my childhood, and they were some of my fondest childhood memories, but back in the 80s, keeping the figures on their cards instead of playing with them? That never struck me then, but hit me like a rock now.
So I ended up with starting to collect Vintage Collection figures which I never opened. Simultaneously I also picked out all my old figures from the old toy box to wipe some dust of those. I read about the collectability of the Power of the Force-line, and I soon realised that some of the figures I had actually had some value.
Being born in 1977 the later Star Wars figures(ROTJ/POTF)was more familiar to me than the very early stuff. I had Farmboy Luke, but thought he was somewhat unimpressive. The spectacle of articulation, loose helmets/hoods, greater detail like EV-9D9s jaw and the crazy sculpt of figures like Amanaman really appealed to me, though. So when I re-opened my vintage account I went for a loose complete Amanaman that I got for 43.50 euros on ebay. But it wasn't until earlier this year when I picked up the vintage collector glove again that i got really seriously into it. I mean, by my standards that is...right now I look to complete my loosie collection, and from my last count I still need to have fourteen more (then I have excluded loose limb C3PO and sensorscope+light saber R2D2. I have problems accepting them as unique figures just yet). They're not all complete though, but this forum has been amazing as far building my collection effectively with decently priced figures in good condition. I'm not sure exactly where to go once I've reached my goal, but making up space to display them nicely will be a priority. Getting some cases for my three MOCs will also be something I do sooner rather than later.
Whoa, that was a long rant...
