I have spent too much lately and my wallet is suffering bigtime, I'm even considering getting
the mods to ban me from all the different boards I'm on for the summer....
When I thought I ran out of Stormie stuff to buy, something else I want pops up,
I even dream of searching all the forums when I sleep, dreaming of doing awesome deals,
and thinking of which direction my collection is going to take most of the day.
I work and study from home, and I'm online all day because of it... oh where did my self discipline go?

I tried to sell my other toys to fund my sw addiction, but because of the inconsistency of the shipping quotes
for the large boxes they are shipped in, I didn't make a cent...
I only have one more deposit on a payment plan and then no cash is owed, which will be a relief, but then again,
my brakes don't work much, so who's to say I won't make another payment plan? :p

I have been all over the place these last months since I sold off my loose collection, and maybe I wasn't ready to
take the plunge into the scene as quick as I did.
I'm having tons of fun now, don't get me wrong, I'm having more fun with this than ever before, and there are positive
repercussions to my health ie. I haven't had a drink in 9 weeks, and I'm certainly not bored.
But then again, I have this thought in the back of my head that I should quit all together, just get out while the getting is good.

Or maybe it's just that I don't have any friends around me that are into the same thing as me, more often than not do I get comments
about why I'm collecting, weird looks and people trying to take the piss. If they do make a comment when they are over, I always
say, well if you don't like it don't come over, and that usually leaves them speechless.
This all may sound like I don't have a life, and I guess that's right to a certain extent, but hey, I'm geek after all is said and done.

A vent much needed...
Cheers

Just use the forums to have a chat mate. You don't have to be spending money all the time to enjoy the hobby. 8)

We'll see what happens, I'll be out fishing most of the time this summer if the weather permits it, but most days, we have all
4 seasons going.

Build a website and then fiddle with it like what I do.

Jason

Been thinking about putting together a norwegian sw site with phantom, but I'm not sure yet...

Time away from the boards could definitely be an option for you, it sounds like you have overdosed a bit, perhaps you just moved too fast with it all?

I know you sold up before and then came back so I wouldn't like to see this buying then selling then reacquiring six months later occur again for you but obviously it is all down to you.

If it helps, I do understand, I think being involved daily not only gives you the opportunity to buy all the time but seeing other peoples buys roll in and shooting the **** on here definitely spurs you on with collecting.

When I was living in Romania I felt a little alien with the toy collecting so I can kinda get the feeling of being "that guy". The culture was different there I guess and not only do people rarely collect anything there, an adult collecting toys really just didn't sit well with most people. It's not like anyone outright said "wtf" but you could tell people didn't understand it. The postman used to think I was strange too as I sometimes had to open things in front of him when he brought them over, while it was a bit like "yeh..erm it's a toy" I also couldn't give a monkeys because 5 seconds later the guy was out the door and out of my life till the next parcel turned up lol!

I think you have to collect for yourself and not to fit in, sure it can suck when no one around you gets it but at the same time, why should other people matter? It's not like you are displaying baby ostrich bones in your living room, it's just some old toys, I could think of a 100 weirder hobbies.

As for buying though, I think pacing yourself and realising it's not a race would be beneficial. You can still hang around here and not buy if you want to, just pretend you are skint and buying something would result in you losing your house. That might be a good deterrent :D

ive been through the same thing before, but i did it with about 10 different toy lines lol

take a step back, distance yourself from collecting for a few weeks, i took up fishing, the gym, tennis and other activities to take up my spare time.

ive almost sold 70% of my stuff now, and all im going to have is 3 shelves of the ACTUAL toys i held in my hand and remember, they will all be loose bar a few.

make a small focus, preferably loose, and dont think "i need this" "i have to have that" "everyone would say that was cool" it all add to an already addictive situation.

chill out and relax, make your collection small and then use the boards to chat about star wars ect.

we have had this issue so many times....we are all like kids in a sweetshop :)

I only buy 1 or 2 star wars items each year and just enjoy reading and looking at what others have got and get up to.......you can still enjoy what you got to look at and come here for the fun.

I guess it's safe to say that I moved a bit fast yeah, but with what I have coming in now, it pretty much stops, unless someone decides to let go
of all their Popys!
I've always collected for my own sake, but previously I had several friends around me doing the same thing, which justified the hobby somewhat more, I guess
it was more rewarding than writing about it. :p

I have limited space as well, only have two glass cabinets and they are filled with toys, was planning on getting rid of the misc toys to free up
some space for sw, but maybe not such a good idea as of now. :p
And yeah, kids in a sweetshop with too much money to spend!

I think I'll give it a go, researching the Popy baggies may keep me occupied for a while too, and saving up and buying only 1 or 2 each year sounds good.

Cheers guys!

Why did your friends stop collecting?

If it's girlfiriends/wives and kids then perhaps you need to be doing the same thing? The funny thing is though if you asked your friends that moved on if they would like to be collecting again they would probably say YES!!! and applaud you for keeping it going lol

The grass always seems greener on the other side huh?

One of my mates got his collection stolen, only his AT-ST and Snowspeeder was overlooked, so I guess that pretty much did it for him.
Another just lost interest, and has moved on completely.
I moved to the other side of the country 7 years ago, and where I live now, I'm the only sw fan collecting the toys here.
There is one guy that was interested in buying some loose figs when I had them for sale, but he never came over, but he regretted that and
wants to get together for a game of SWCCG and a few beers. :p

Working on the girlfriend bit, just met a girl that says she likes sw, but you never know if that's just to get into my pants!

 , not another one/again!

Some things I try and do to satiate my collecting pangs, are:
Only buy when it is a crazy low price. It can take a long while to get that super bargain.
Endless researching can be rewarding and it's "free".
Find a focus that is cheap, hard to find, yet still cool.

I have been through very similar situation before and now to an extent mate.

As people have said. I just try and do loads and loads of reading to try to stop me thinking "I need to buy this and that". That idea of a Norway SW site sounds good with Phantom 8)

As has been stated..just take a break from buying. I do not buy all the time either. Bits and pieces here and there and a few major purchases a year and that is about it. I like to just bullshit on the forum and once in a while strike up a trade or find a deal.

Now as far as fitting in, the two guys that used to collect closest to me stopped years ago. One because he is pussywhipped and the other to attempt to fund a new house, which he never built and he made **** for money off his collection. The latter guy is now collecting again. Most people think it is either childish or a waste of money...which I could care less. I know people who spend far more money on hobbies such as gambling and sports and I respect them and do not call them stupid cunts (But I want too).....anyways just take it easy....go fishing and pop on here once in a while to let us know your alive.

Ive been putting my brakes on big time lately due to various reasons.
After I completed my loose ones (first 79) and got them on display I kinda reached my first goal, after that I went all over the place without having another major goal.

There are some collectors in Norway and in the city I live in there are actually a small Star Wars community. I would really support a Norwegian Star Wars site as it will probably help create more vintage collectors. They are out there, and everytime a Norwegian buy some of my stuff they seem surprised there actually are more collectors out there. I still believe we will in general see a rise in collectors when the original trilogy hits the big screen again.

As for now I enjoy reading the forums and not spending :)

It is bloody addictive tbh, as soon as i get up at 6.30 am im on the ipad seeing if i can beat you guys too a bargain :) my wife keeps shooting at me about spending every minute on ebay or the forum, trouble is it is so easy too spend, where as if i had the cash in my hand and someone said give me £120 for this i would probley think alot more about doing so, but its all good fun.

Take time out mate, enjoy life too the max, because its bloody short.

I used to play SWCCG back in the day. From what I hear it is a different beast now, but it has the potential to take up a lot of time if you want to get serious about it. It shouldn't be too expensive now, either.

Tundra, I think most collectors would say they have had a period like this. I did with the ewoks I bought recently as you all know. I bought 6 figures in total in the space of a week and a half, 5 ewoks and a b wing pilot. Not a lot to some people but that was probrably the best part of £200 i didnt really have. My wife had just gone onto maternity pay, i'm paying all the bills and mortgage so need all the money I can get. But I just had to get them once it was in my head. I havent really been on here much since just to have a break and make sure I dont spend any money. Its usually looking through the 'Latest Aquisitions' thread that gets me buying.

Dont make any rash decisions about getting out and selling up. I did that before with my last MOC collection before getting what collection I have now and regretted it big time. Just take some time out from the forums, usually does me good once in a while.

Cheers guys, will try my best to stay somewhat focused and curb my spending,
just needed to vent some thoughts and get a "birds eye" view on it all.
There's just that certain something about sw that makes me go:

I told him that if we were going to play, we're going by the old rules and the first ed. cards,
might be a nice break from buying but still keeping the sw vibe going :p
