Hi there, I am new to the forum and hoping for some assistance. I have been digging around in my parents loft and have found my old star wars toys. In amongst all the bits and pieces I was surprised to find a Jawa complete with vinyl cape (surprised because I had read that this was a rare figure). Anyway there is no box, no gun and the cape has a 0.5cm vertical tear under the left arm, I have had a quick look on eBay (including a search on completed listings) and prices seem to vary, I wondered if anyone might be able to assist with a valuation?

Many Thanks

The Vinyl Cape Jawa in the loft story, been a while since we heard that one :D

Pictures are needed for anyone to be able to assist you if you are a genuine person with a genuine question who happens to have a genuine VCJ.

Hi there, thanks for the quick responses, I will try to get some photos added ASAP, appreciate there are a lot of fakes and fakers out there but this is a genuine enquiry.

The question for me as an American is this, How many VC Jawas where available in the UK market back in the 70's for a kid to have one stowed away in his loft??? I know that there was the potential for it to be on a Palitoy card, but as of now, I only know of about three examples. I thought most known VC jawas in the UK where most likely bought from the states by collectors within the last 20 years. Just my thoughts.

Jawa pics attached as promised. They include a pic with some of the other figures I found.

Your thoughts or advice on any of them would be much appreciated.

I'm from the Uk and the last of the first 12 I had was the VC Jawa. It was really difficult to get hold of and my mum actually turned up with it one evening. If it was a Palitoy or Kenner card I really can't be sure although all the other's I had were Palitoy. One thing I do remember though was that I already had the Palitoy Death Star play set which I had for Christmas 1978, so it must have been after that. I've often wondered if the Jawa was just packed very few to a box or if it was the last one made by Kenner. Who knows, anyway I definitely had one the first time around so they did make it to UK shores.

That Jawa looks real (although maybe the cape's a little short and collar a tad shinny), but Ouch!
I think you'll need clearer pictures to see if it is the real deal for sure but one with similar damage went on ebay recently for about 135 pounds so I'd say it's somewhere in that ball park. It maybe less as it certainly wouldn't grade that high and the damage is in quite a noticeable place.

I bought one about 2 years ago with perfect arm holes and a 4mm tear at the bottom of the cape. It's at the back so you can't see it at all from the front or side and that was about 80 pounds. It really will depend on how many people are desperate for one at the time.

Hope that helps a bit!

Hi there, thanks for your assistance with the valuation, much appreciated. It's a shame about the damage, I could hardly believe it when I found him in amongst all my other stuff.

Does anyone know anything about the other figures shown, I think I sent off for the guy with the bandaged head from a collectors club, you had to send off the name panels from figures purchased. I also got a Darth Vader carry case via this method if my memory serves me correctly.

Thanks

Hi There

Thanks to all those who have offered help and advice. I have decided to try and sell the Jawa via a well known auction site.

Why not sell it on here? Its completely free and you have the piece of mind it will be going to a collector and well looked after. To come on here ask for advice and then dissapear and sell it elsewhere may appear a little rude :)

 well your a bit of a **** come on here and get your info then put it on ebay, why dont you offer it too our members on here! im sure with the damage on the cape alot of our memebers who cant afford a mint one would make you a acceptable offer!

OK, well some of the language is a little choice but clearly there has been a breach of etiquete on my part and I would like to apologise. From my perspective I was not picking up much interest on the forum, no one suggested that there may be collectors who would be interested in buying it and no one indicated that I could sell this via the forum so I thought I would look elsewhere. Sorry for the obvious offence I have caused.

Thats why I rarely give new members a valuation...and/or a real one. :D

Seconded.

Gotta say though guys, it is his item and he can sell it wherever he likes. May be he has no real idea of value and (is dumb enough to) trust Ebay. Either way, he doesn't know us and may well suspect we have ulterior motives when we give him estimates of its worth, and lets be honest there is no shortage of cunts out there.
True, it may have been nice if he had offered it on here ater we helped him out, but he's under no obligation.

Examples like this are why i tend to ignore every single post like this. We help and in return we get nothing. Why bother!?

No offence meant but you can imagine so many people join to use our knowledge then disappear to make money elsewhere. You won't get people making offers for it in this thread. Stick it in the for sale thread and if you don't get a satisfactory offer on there then shove it on eBay? I've no idea of value but I just paid £275 for one in perfect condition so I'm guessing you'd be looking at around half that?

£90 in the end i suppose thats about a right price for a damaged one
