the ESB/ROTJ Kenner boxes show X-wings with black intakes, but I don't think they ever came like that.

How about the POTF 2 one

I don't think gustie means the back of the ship rather the bits on the wings, the circular front bits are shownas black on Kenner boxes

it might be a grey X-Wing thing. I think the ESB box cover I saw was a grey one too. Another for you to track down though
