This is my Boba Fett…

I was born in late '71, so when I got my Fett, I was still only 7 years old. Although I had other Star Wars figures by then, Boba Fett quickly became my favourite.

He's been played with in the house, out in the garden, In and out of mud puddles, been frozen in the snow, and buried under sand. He's fought with my other figures, as well as friends, fights which resulted in many bloody fingers. He's been attached to parachutes and thrown in the air and off bridges. He's sat in my pocket while I fell off my bike, and we've had many bath time adventures. He's been the victim of many toy car crashes, and ridden over by a skateboard. He grew up with me, and moved house numerous times, lost for some years, found in the bottom of a box again some years later. I grew older, and grew out of him, I moved onto other things, and got on with life .

Some years later, rekindled my Star Wars figure passion, went through different stages, loose, MOC, graded, higher end only, different cycles over again, but one thing was consistent, my Boba Fett. His limbs are loose, his paintwork worn, his blue has faded to a grey and his colours aren't vibrant anymore, but he's really special to me. In fact one day I realised he was one of my most cherished items, my prized possessions, and if I had to grab anything, he'd be one of the things I'd try and grab. He's all my childhood memories encapsulated in a 3 3/4 inch plastic shell, and I'd be heart broken if I lost him. He's a token of all that was good in the 1970's and growing up.

Now, I don't have a loose figure collection anymore, all graded or MOC, and I wanted to do something special. So, I thought wouldn't it be a bit cool to try and get the guy graded. Instead of tucked away at the back of all my other figures, let's give him the attention he deserves, and display him proudly as my most important personal figure. I had a couple of figures I wanted to send off to get graded anyway, So off he goes in the post, (Don't you dare lose him Royal Mail). To be honest, I had visions of them refusing to grade him because he's so far gone, and I had a back up plan to request him to be cased up without grading. But…I needn't have worried, as to my surprise, this morning, a knock at the door, and along with a couple of others, he's home again.

This is my Boba Fett… and he got a 50

AWESOME !

If he were mine, I would not sell him for anything ever....

I grew up and out of my toys, Star Wars, Action Man, train sets and Corgi cars etc, but Star Wars is the one thing I have gone back to - just wish I had some of my original toys from back in the day. They were given to my nephew, and in time my sister (his Mam) gave them to a charity shop.

If only I could jump in a Tardis and find that shop now!

Amazing story that REALLY gets to the heart of why we collect - thanks so much for sharing, that has put a huge smile on my face on a day when I really could use some cheering up :D

Great that you still have your childhood Fett, I'd give my left arm for mine...long since gone :(

Why grade it though if you don't mind me asking? Surely a simple case would have been a better/cheaper option, so you could still handle him at least?

Thanks for your kind words.

Because that's what I wanted to do.

That is very cool to still have your original Fett and to give him some special casing treatment.

Loving the cased Marshmallow man too, do you have much of the original Ghostbusters stuff? Ive got a few MOCs of the first line and a sealed tub of Ecto Plazm

Man the ghostbusters stuff was my main toyline as was too young for the star wars era. Had everything!! Gave most away :(

Your Fett is in great condition compared to mine Vinyl Jawa, mine has got alot of paint rub and he struggles to stand up. Here he is:

Sorry about the poor quality, the camera is poo.

Lovely memories and a great idea for a thread but I too am also a little confused why you would entomb such an important part of you childhood. Don't you ever fancy taking him out for another adventure!

Here's my childhood boba - battered, yellow, weaponless and so wobbly he won't stand up at all but easily one the my favorite toys I ever had.
I picked up a regular fett a few years later at a car boot and didn't go a lot on his colouring at all. Trilogos look better every time. 8)

No I don't, I actually bought the Stay Puft from a member on here, and decided to get him graded and he got an 85, which I was well pleased with.
