THE TOYS OF YESTERDAY
A poem by Darren Patrick

We once were children full of joy and nothing seemed to matter.
Never did we realise some day our innocence would shatter.
Today we are all adults with daily hills to climb.
The reality we now all face, back then was far from mind.

Our parents when we were so young would buy us toys to play.
Those special little heroes that were by our sides all day.
We used to dream of lands afar with creatures we could meet.
The heroes of these lands we were, never to retreat.

Today we buy our heroes back to visit memories dear.
Those times when we would laugh and shout and never did we fear.
So place those toys up on display and visit days gone by.
The innocence we all once had, never should it die.
