My 6th or 7th birthday (so this was in '79 or '80, can't really remember), my uncle comes over with his Super 8 projector and puts this reel of "selected scenes" from Star Wars on. No sound because his projector didn't have an amplifier, but we were enthralled none the less, since none of my mates or me had a VCR or cable TV. I believe the running time is only about ten minutes or so, but I was sold! Fun to think about how that day my life actually changed forever. My uncle passed away years ago, but I still have the very example that started this whole love affair for me:

Within a year I'd seen ESB in the theatre and the rest is, as they say, history ;)

Some day I'll get hold of a projector and put it on again...

Cheers,
Martin

Fantastic memories. Super-8 projectors were massively expensive in their heyday - probably the equivalent of a top of the range massive TV these days. The silent projectors were a lot cheaper.

Was that the black and white version with sub-titles that you watched? It begins with a lengthy clip of Luke speaking to Ben in his hut before cutting to the escape from the Death Star. I unearthed my Super-8 projector and watched that version the other day.

Craig.
