I've worked hard to collect the first 12 palitoy. I've mostly got beaters and reseals, I'm now a Chewie, Luke and Darth away from the lot. I'm thinking though, maybe it's gone. There's no way I'd spend the sort of money that a Luke or Chewie would go for. Maybe it's time to admit defeat. I haven't seen any Luke beaters / reseals over the last couple of years. I could have bought a Chewie on ebay which had an opened bubble but 300 at the time seemed like too much money. Maybe if I completed the 12 it would take away the fun of the chase anyway. It seems like this year has been a golden year for 12 back palitoy collecting (if you could afford it). Surely there aren't any other toyshop hauls out there. We might well look back at this as a golden year.

I'm not really looking for an answer, but have had a couple of recorderlings so feeling philosophical and thought I'd share this thought process with the fraternity.

I wouldn't give up just yet as it took me years to get my Chewbacca reseal and then over the space of a year around 4-5 more turned up. It's a strange way things can go and I agree 300 GBP is way to much for a reseal like this and I'm sure more of the ones you're looking for will turn up at some point for a more realistic price, it just seems to come in waves.

Hang in there buddy and don't lose hope just yet, you never know what's around the corner.

I wouldn't give up hope just yet. 300 is too much for a reseal so you made he right call avoiding. Your missing figures will turn up and as you say, in the meantime you've got the thrill of the hunt.

As for no more toy shop hauls, never say never. Who knows what will turn up next! Beeches' shop was an absolute treasure trove but it doesn't have to be the only one out there.

Whilst waiting for your last 3 to turn up I'd keep your interest going by expanding into the first 20 on Palitoy. Probably harder to get the next 8 than the first 12! Love those Palitoy cards. And when you're ready for doing the first 30, I have a nice Bossk reseal you may like ;)

Don't give up you never know what might pop up or happen in the future. I'me sure their's plenty of chaps on here that will look out for you as well. :D

Chewy Mocs have been £4-5 k for a while so £300 for a reseal based on that is not unreasonable.

However, the last few have been selling for £2-2.5 k. The market has been saturated by vectis so those who have been waiting for one have one. The reseal prices now should reflect this market shift.

Hang in there. Something will come along.

Hang in there mate, its why places like this exist. Friends always keep an eye out. :D

I know how you feel but hang in there. Real collectors play the long game.
Why not try your hand at another more affordable line and then look to trade later on?

I feel your pain. Reseals/beaters are the only option for me.

How much are we talking for a set of reseal first 12 Palitoys?

It's quite depressing to think that unless I get fingered by the Lottery God, I'm never going to own a MOC 12 back Pali.

The irony is that back in the day, when Palitoys were at relatively affordable prices, I didn't have the disposable income.
Now that I have a degree of disposable income, the prices have gone through the ****ing roof.
The very definition of Sod's Law :(

The £300 chewie had a cut bubble, so better than a normal reseal IMO.

Last week I think Stephane sold a Luke reseal on the FB group, so they are out there. There was a really beaten up chewie posted on here (NFS but you never know) a few months ago. Keep looking out and networking and you never know.

I can't see prices of Chewie staying supressed for too long - vectis had a few and a couple more were sold recently too, but more collectors will end up needing him for their run, so prices will climb again IMO.

Looking back over my ebay notes I had to go back to the end of November of last year to find all 12 but the combined price for a full set, all complete and in good shape is 1766 GBP.
There are a few high ones in this lot like the 350 Chewbacca, 250 R2 that was signed and 181 Leia. Funny enough the last luke that sold back in November was a really nice sliced bubble one and only went for 108. Both Chewbacca and R2 haven't come up in a while so maybe that's why these are high but I'm sure there are plenty more to come.

Hope that's of some help.

Ian

Thanks for all the kind words. I'm going to bide my time and enjoy the thrill of uncovering them. I think the cider had had its effect.

I bought the 181 Leia!

Thanks Ian. Great info.
That's more in my price range. Just got to find the ****ers now :D

You'll find them all given time and that was a nice Leia Triscompany, she's one of the harder ones to get and tends to have a bit of competition.

Never give up :D

Thanks man, it was a labor of love at times but worth it in the end. As I mentioned in my thread I've got all the first 30 released now with both a Yoda and Boba 30 back and when I finally get them all out of storage I'll be sure to post up some new pics.

I did end up upgrading quite a few times on my journey to completing the set so there should be some doubles tucked away somewhere that might help a few people out at a later date

That's an amazing collection Ian!

Seconded. Absolutely stunning collection, Ian
Now my loose collection is complete, I think I've found my calling for the next decade or so.

You mentioned in your thread that some of the collection was made up from cut cards etc.
Excuse my ignorance, but can you explain how this is done. Tbh, I couldn't see any joins on the Luke and Leia.

I first used some Kenner cut cards in the early days which had been sliced open (probably for U-grading  ), and then separated half the backing card from the back of the cut card and half the front face of the card back where I wanted them mounted onto. The join was pretty obvious across the race track on the left hand side as there was damage to the card back front in this area so used the area from the cut card but it did as a place holder until finding proper reseals. Then I came across a couple of Palitoy 12 back cut cards that were sealed (Luke and Leia), and was lucky enough to have their Palitoy 12 back card backs with only damage to the area where the bubble was removed back in the day. This then meant that I could do the same process as the Kenner ones but cut around the bubble seal (outer most plastic flat edge of bubble), line it up on the card back and cut an exact section on the card back front where I wanted to mount it. It worked pretty well although on close inspection it's not completely perfect but is as close to owning a moc as you'll probably get.

I'm not sure if that came across clearly but it's the best I can explain it. I have a sealed large head Han Palitoy 12 back cut card to do at some point as well as a Boba fett and Yoda. The Yoda and Boba Fett are both Kenner but I might make the first orange snake Palitoy 30 back one day! :D

I must admit that it could be a little scary doing things like this with regards to scammers out there but these really are for my collection and it's so rare to find an early card back with no damage and it's corresponding 12 back cut card that I really don't think it will ever be much of an issue. It's a good job these early released Star Wars card backs have the double race track on them or you would be able to use an Empire or Jedi cut card.

I still think you can't really beat a complete reseal/opened card back that's all original so would always recommend waiting it out for one to come along. The cut cards remounted are good as the figure is still sealed and a way of displaying them in a really nice way.

Best of luck with the future hunt!

Ian

Thanks for the explanation.
Bit of a 'Dark Art', by the sounds of it.
Love to have a go, though
