Q1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less

I'm a quietish, practical and calculated sort of chap, but then I have this dark side where every now and then I lose it and let rip at someone. I play guitar and enjoy a piss up every now and then.

Barry doesn't like requests for Girl's Aloud

Q2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?

My dad had a VHS player in one of the rooms at his pub. He rented Star Wars for me to watch. One day he took me out and bought my first figure - Darth Vader. That was it. Hooked!

And as you can see Barry's Vader fettish continued through his tweenie years

Q3. What does Star Wars mean to you?

Star Wars is part of my soul. It's been entwined within my entire existence. Other than being a very small infant there has never been a time I was not hugely into Star Wars.

Barry on his first job interview

Q4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?

My collecting goals are collecting ESB cardbacks. I wanted a run, one of each figure, and i've just completed that run :-D ..now what?

Barry's Limelight which needs an update! http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14070

Q5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe, who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

If I could be anyone from the SW universe I would be Han Solo…or maybe Luke. Nah, Luke is too much of a nancy boy. Han. He's cool

Nancy boy Luke?

Q6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?

The stupid prequels are the worst thing about SW. Don't get me wrong I don't hate them and they do add to the story. It's just the way they were done. The script is unforgivable and writers must have been smoking crack when they came up with Jar Jar.

An early script may have been more your thing?

Q7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?

My greatest SW collecting achievement ..hmm. It was probably back in the early days of collecting, like when I got my Luke Stormie. It was just this legendary figure. Recently it's probably my blue snag.

Q8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

One thing I always thought was an odd omission from the original figure line was the Imperial Spy. Considering the crap death squad commander was among the first 12 why was this guy never released?

Yeah you can just imagine the vinyl cape imperial spies find in the attics!

Q9. You have one minute with George Lucas. What would you say?

With only one minute to speak to George Lucas I guess I would just thank him for creating SW. Never know what to say to these people.

Either that or you have a really bad stammer

Q10. Why do you post on SWFUK?

I post on SWFUK because I like being part of the collecting community. I really feel like SW has been a huge part of my life and not a passing fad. It's nice to have finally met a whole group of guys who feel the same way.

Group shot from FFIV. Barry is cos-playing as Paddington Bear

Q11. One word. Jedi or Sith?

Jedi!

This ends the interrogation. You have been assessed and the Empire has decided that although you have rebel sympathetic tendencies you are as much a threat as Lego Anakin. You can go back to tinkering with your cars, fiddling with your macro lenses and polishing your Kenny Baker miniatures.

Forum Name – mr_palitoy
Real Name – Jason Smith

Characteristics – capable of making crap jokes and then enjoys being touched
Special Powers - the ability to tell the perfume on the worker in the Palitoy factory who packed any carded figure from 50 paces
Star Wars likeness match – Boss Nass

Q1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less

I work in IT so am heavily involved in computers. Enjoy the online aspects of the Star Wars community, but also the face to face side of things at meets and conventions where I do a bit of cosplay. Always up for a beer and a chat about Star Wars!

Jason cosplaying as Grotbags

Q2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?

I saw Episode 4 up in the local cinema in the Highlands of Scotland. Despite the frankly rubbish projection system (which broke down regularly during viewings and everyone would stamp their feet until they got it going again), I was blown away as a kid by the film, I was 9 at the time.

A limited choice of cinema in the Highlands

Q3. What does Star Wars mean to you?

It’s just a great set of (original trilogy) movies that had a kick ass set of toys and collectibles when I was a kid. I remember travelling down to the Midlands and collecting the first 12 palitoy carded figures in toy shops round Nottingham, the rub on transfer dioramas and pencil/protractor school sets.

I'm sure I had that pencil sharpener as a kid!

Q4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?

I started out collecting all the boxed toys I didn’t have as a kid, moved on to cardbacks and MOCs, with the first 12/20 Palitoy MOC, a run of (now all Toy Toni) ROTJ AFA 90 Palitoys and a 2-1b character focus. These days I’m back on cardbacks, trying to expand my palitoy cardbacks to include all foreign produced cardbacks bar Kenner.

Jason's limelights are impressive. Most impressive.

Q5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe, who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

Loved the Falcon as a kid, so would be Han’s sidekick as new character or Han if we’re going for existing characters.

Solo's new (old) sidekick

Q6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?

Mr Binks aside, I was always annoyed at how a bunch of teddy bears with pointy sticks could take out a bunch of heavily armed, expertly trained, cloned from bounty hunter troops. Yes, the bears have home turf advantage, but you’d think the stormtrooper battle terrain training would have covered trees?

Q7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?

I’m really proud of my Palitoy cardback run, I have over 400 unique card back variations now.

Online, my cardback guide has come on leaps and bounds in the last few months with expanded sections for spotting Toy Tonis, and I’ve also started expanding it to cover all Palitoy Star Wars toys, not just cardbacks.

Q8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

I would have loved to have seen a trash compactor play set, complete with trash compactor monster.

Some of the micro sets are cool

Q9. You have one minute with George Lucas. What would you say?

Just to thank him for producing a great set of movies that I really enjoyed watching as a kid.

Q10. Why do you post on SWFUK?

It’s very laid back, my friends post on here and it’s a good laugh.

He means beer!

Q11. One word. Jedi or Sith?

Jedi!

Although you state Jedi there is more than a little Sith in a Scotsman's blood. Therefore you have been released from the detention centre as a potential ally in the future. Lord Vader will be watching your progress closely.

1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less

I’m typically a quiet person when people first meet me, but once I get to know them I open up. Besides Star Wars, I grew up in a bit of a tech household, so computers have always been an interest for me and are my chosen profession. My schooling was in Digital Media, so I also dabble in that with my spare time.

He was a cutie

2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?

I honestly can’t remember. I was born in ’78 and had an older brother who was into the toys then, so I think it has been something that has always been there for me from the beginning.

3. What does Star Wars mean to you?

Like most I think it is a reminder of a simpler time. For me in particular it reminds me of the time before my family moved away from Las Vegas which was a tough move for me as a child

and even though I was only 9 when we moved, I still consider Vegas home. The TRU that I remember getting vintage at is still there and I always have to pay it a visit when I’m there.

We'd all love to shop here!

4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?

Well in the short term, I’ll be moving in a couple of months, so the main goal will be to set up a new collection room with a display I’m happy with.

Shaun sent me some plans of his new SW room

As far as long term goals, I’m still plugging away at the Luke Jedi focus and have already been able to add some long wanted pieces this year, but there’s always more. Also, I’ve been on the hunt for an alt logo POTF coin which haven’t been as available lately.

I read this several times and spent over a couple of hours researching these alt. logo coins. Then I realised you're not referring to a Luke Jedi Knight alt. logo! D'uh. No wonder I was getting nowhere.
For those interest in POTF coins then Gus' awesome reference is a must. I've learnt a hell of a lot:

http://theswca.com/images-coins/coin-chart.html

Got one of these Shawn? :D

Finally, there’s that Young Jedi Knight followup mail away that I’ve been hunting several years for now.

This was a bitch to find. Until I realised - hey Shawn has a website. Maybe, just maybe...

5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe, who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

I’d have to say Luke. He has just always been my favorite, but it’d certainly have to be the more mature dressed in black ROTJ Luke and not whiney farm boy Luke. As far as what I’d do/go, I guess go clean up the leftovers of the empire throughout the galaxy after ROTJ.

Farmboy Luke would be a ***** taking on the remnants of the Empire

6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?

Jar Jar! Nah that’s the obvious answer. The 2nd would be Ewoks, but being my age when Jedi came out, they never bothered me like I know they do some. I think more than anything it’d be the changes done with the Special Editions/Blu Ray releases. With my digital media background, I get that nothing ever feels finished and why a director would want to continue to tinker with a project, but I think each release should have the George Lucas cut and then an original theatrical cut included, so fans can choose which they’d like to see. Where Star Wars was such a huge phenomenon people should be able to have the opportunity to see them how they were originally released.

Shawn's favourite SE Sarlac Scene isn't the most popular

7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?

That’s a really tough question since I’d consider a few pieces on my various focus areas, but if I had to pick one, it’d be completing the POTF 62 coin set. It took me several years to find them all, payment plans, and a lot of luck.

Shawn's limelight

http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10339

8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

I think it would have had to have been some kind of Emperor’s throne room/Death Star II playset. That whole duel with Vader and the Emperor at the end is such a pivotal moment in the trilogy. However, I understand that a playset for basically 3 figures doesn’t help sell a lot of toys. I do love looking at the 1984 Toy Fair diorama though and wondering what could have been.

Wow this would have been so cool

http://theswca.com/images-speci/toyfair/84-throneroom-1.html

9. You have one minute with George Lucas. What would you say?

Thank him for all the fun and enjoyment his universe has brought to me for most of my life.

10. Why do you post on SWFUK?

I enjoy the more laid back atmosphere, how a topic can go completely off topic if need be, and even in a heated debate things come back around full circle without much mod involvement. Also, all the great people I’ve been able to meet here.

11. One word. Jedi or Sith?

I'm afraid to say Shawn that you are as Jedi as any member on SWFUK could claim to be. Lord Vader is not happy. Only your hatred of U grading has allowed you to escape. Use your hatred. Feel the power of the Dark side.

1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less

I work as Editor on special software we use as documentation system in a biopharmaceutical company. My other hobbies are online gaming (only Call of Duty) and practice Okinawan Kobudo (like karate with farmer tools as weapons).

Brutal! Dennis is capable of castrating a bull at 50 feet

2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?

I was born in 1982 and star wars wasn’t really available in the stores here in Belgium anymore by the time I got interested in it. I used to read old weekly comics my dad collected when I was younger, that must be a translation issue as we called them porn mags

which contained advertisements for Star Wars toys. I just had seen the original star wars trilogy by then and I was hooked!

Just one of the toys Dennis found lying about

I wanted those figures so badly and somehow the only 2 things Star Wars I got as child somehow was an Hoth Stormtrooper (from a fleamarket) and Wampa creature (which I had since I was 3-4 but did not know it was Star Wars till I was 6-7). At the same time (late 80’s) my uncle used to date a woman who had a son, who collected star wars, his room was filled with dioramas and he kept all boxes from his playsets. I remember I was already impressed (or jealous) by his collection as I child and I think because of that I still even know his name even now 25 years later.

Brussels has a very famous toy museum which claims around 35,000 items. Hope they have some SW in there as most of the toys seem wooden and have wheels

3. What does Star Wars mean to you?

Star Wars had a massive impact on me as a kid, with scenes like the space battles and epic weapons like lightsabers, laser blasters and the force… best trilogo I saw as kid. I even created my own lightsabers using a stick and coloured electrical tape.

We all did this. I wonder if that's why we have coloured broom handles now?

Star wars as an adult is more hobby related, I know more about vintage SW toys then about the movies I guess (I don’t even like the prequels). Star Wars is collecting, searching for certain items and talking to other collectors. Because of Star Wars I got to know people from around the globe, met other collectors at Celebration Europe and became part of a great group of people here online.

4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?

My goals I set were easy, 1st complete a loose figure set and a 2nd, get a nice 12 back set, which I both accomplished.
I did start other runs, like the rest of the 20/21 backs, potf coins, cardback variations, … but none really worked for me. One day I do like to get my hands on the Canadian 12 figure box which contains the first 12 figures on 20 backs (probably after I won the lottery… ).

http://web.ncf.ca/cn333/swfigs.htm#20

5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe (including a new character), who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

Well I probably would want to be a bounty hunter, not an alien or robotic hunter, but something more like fett, wearing a helmet and an outfit with great features like the jetpack, rocket launcher and a flamethrower… oh and a lightsaber would be a must. So lets say a Sith bounty hunter.

A Sith Bounty Hunter - I'm sure Rebels will feature one

6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?

It may sound cliché, but the prequels! They did not match up with the OT in a visual way, had an overkill on special effects and CGI creatures (what happened to puppets and costumes for creatures….) and some ridiculous characters (e.g. Jar Jar).

But they couldn't do this 20 years ago!

7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?

I don’t have any “great collecting achievements”, but I had the most rewarding feeling by completing my 12 back set.
Also acquiring some rare variants like the Burgundy cape Bib, Toltoys VC Jawa, LL removable rocket Fett etc was great when I was collecting loose variant figures.

Dennis' earlier collection

http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16270&hilit=stargeezer

8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

They released so many random figures, like 8 ewoks, a bunch of droids, SW cantina creatures and too many Jabba goons, I often wonder why they did not make captain piett or the Rebel troopers from ‘A new hope’ instead of the Death Squad commander.

I agree. An imperial officer from the first film was a must.

9. You have one minute with George Lucas. After you've thanked him for the saga, what would you say?

I dunno, but if I should say something about SW, I would tell him the prequels would probably had been better if he didn’t wait another 20 years to make them or tried to explain the Force.

There was obviously a problem at the hotel during shooting which led to an idea from George

10. Why do you post on SWFUK?

I love the SWFUK as a forum, it’s a more relaxed forum and you’ll get a good laugh here at times. It is the members on here, that make the forum what it is. I am just glad to be part of this group.

1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less

I am a foolish idealist that spends too much time looking at binary sunsets

Same here

instead of concentrating on where I am and what I am doing. I crave adventure and excitement but know that these aren’t what’s to be valued in life.

Oh you mean this

Grant on one of his many rambles. Probably with a can of beer. Missed the opportunity to re-enact the binary sunset

2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?

November 1982 I was sat down in front of the TV in the evening to watch a film. The beginning music scared me so I got on my mums chair and hid behind her to watch the film.

To be fair he was young

It must of made an impression because the following February I was on a birthday shopping trip to buy an Action Man, I walked past a toy shop that had Star Wars in the window. Apparently I ran into the shop and started dismantling the display trying to get to the AT-AT. The box was bigger than me. My mum borrowed money off a friend and bought me the AT-AT with a TIE Pilot and AT-AT Commander figures.

3. What does Star Wars mean to you?

Everything- it’s been a fun ride but it’s also been there when things when bad. I loved it as a child; I loved collecting it in the 90’s and speculating about the prequels. It was there for me when I was having trouble in school, it saved me from making the wrong decisions when I lost my father to cancer. It inspired me to get my first degree which I made a film based on Star Wars. It inspired me to travel the world and witness and experience other cultures and lifestyles. It inspired me greatly to do my Master’s degree, where I even got away with referencing Obi-Wan Kenobi for a presentation. It’s made me want to learn about myth, space, science, art, music, philosophy, religion, politics and so much more. And now it’s given me a whole new group of friends from all over the world. I will always have Star Wars. It has enriched my life profoundly.

4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?

I have already far surpassed my wildest dreams as a 15 year old boy trying to collect the figures. I just wanted a good collection- didn’t even think it would be possible to get every figure on a MOC. I still have new collecting goals, a Palitoy 45a TIE Pilot, still after nearly 20 years I still don’t have a VC Jawa or Blue Snaggletooth. Some cast and crew items- I’m not to bothered anymore, it’s going to continue and nothing will stop it.

5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe (including a new character), who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

Mmm….dunno. Luke Skywalkers padawan. I will learn how to use the ways of the force, turn evil and make a kick ass Episode X.

6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?
Attack of the Clones. I just can’t get my head around it. I thought I’d be over this by now, but it just gets worse and worse.

I think you may have watched the wrong movie

7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?

Collecting the loose figures complete with weapons in 1994/1995. I was a kid, there was no internet and the money I had was made from buying and selling collections. Items were found by word of mouth or at markets etc and the hunt was so exciting. I’m definitely old school. Don’t ****ing open MOCs. ****ing tourists.

8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

I would have said shuttle, sand crawler and A-wing when I was a kid, but they did make them. I’d say Leia Slave or hermi odle.

Not hard to work out why this wasn't made

9. You have one minute with George Lucas. After you've thanked him for the saga, what would you say?

I love you. Why didn’t you subscribe to your genius film making philosophy when you made the prequels? I’m also looking for an original TIE Pilot helmet for my focus…..

If anyone finds this get in touch :D

10. Why do you post on SWFUK?

It’s by far the best place to talk vintage Star Wars. Less regulated than RS, boys should be allowed to have a scrap and get on with it, if that’s what it takes. It’s far better than those awful Facebook groups. Plus this is where my mates are, and if you are respectful, you can learn a lot be a part of a family.

Grant and friends at CE2

The only family that will spend 2 hours over a beer talking about the thickness of Darth Vader's lightsaber on Poch and PBP figures.

A euphemism? I'm so glad that I didn't spend the night with you lot at Ce2.

Double bladed sabers don't often feature with the Jedi. Could be a rogue Jedi

My name is Jamie and I live in the New Forest. I’m 44 and have a 5 year old daughter who I love with all my heart. My job is dull. My friends are way cooler than me.

Are you kidding? What's not cool about living in a forest?

At least you never run out of toilet roll

2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?
My dad took me to see Star Wars back in 1977 when I was 7 years old. It was my first ever trip to a cinema. I remember him buying me the poster magazine (with C3PO and R2 on the cover) before we went in. Afterwards we talked about it all the way home.

There are so many of these magazines it's difficult to track down which one it is. But I found this American one which looks awesome

3. What does Star Wars mean to you?
Star Wars takes me back to being a seven year old again. When I think of Star Wars I reminisce to a simpler time. A time when I would get butterflies in my stomach opening a Star Wars toy. A time when my weekends were filled with playing. It is nice to have that to have to connect to.

4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?
I would like to finish my graded 12 back collection. 8 out of 12, not good enough. I am in the process of moving so I am thinking display options now as well. Do I go ‘Toy Shop’ or ‘Action Scene’?

Shame on you Jamie I can't find a limelight! Tsk.

5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe (including a new character), who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

I would be Boba Fett. I could hide behind that mask and basically do what the f**k I wanted, go to all the best parties, have all the money and still nobody knows who the f**k I am.

Oh you have a Boba Fettish do you?

Many Bothans died to bring this picture of Jamie in the bath

Are you part of this group? If so sign me up.

6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?
Sorry to any fans but C3PO annoys me the most. Moan moan bloody moan. Reminds me of my ex misses. Misses? As in plural! Bloody hell. No wonder you want to be reminded of when you were 7.

I can understand that

More of this

But he does have some downtime

7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?
I guess a general achievement of being accepted into the community as someone who is trustworthy, knowledgeable and fair. When I started trading I was working in hard sales and came in all cocky and full of bullshit. It didn’t take long to have that knocked out of me by people who had been doing it longer and were established. I listened and I understood that this was a group of people who were friends and, even more important, friendly. I now consider them friends myself and as you get older you realise that’s the most important thing.

8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?
I always thought a tractor beam playset would have been so cool. When Star Wars toys first came out I made a tractor beam scene using an old yoghurt pot and a toilet roll.

I think a young Jamie watched a lot of this

9. You have one minute with George Lucas. After you've thanked him for the saga, what would you say?
Oooo tricky. I guess I would like to know why Leia remembers her mother and Luke doesn’t. That question really bugs me.

Leia just made it up to look cool. Has any woman ever claimed not to know something?

10. Why do you post on SWFUK?
Christian (GWAcrylics) introduced me to this forum after we met at FF1. I was selling on eBay 100% at the time and he convinced me that this was a better way of doing it. After the initial ‘oh my god these people know sooo much, where do I start?’ reaction I became interested in what people were talking about. Repro. First shots. Proof cards. Intense geeky discussions which started to make sense to me, fascinate me even. Of course, there’s nobody outside of this community who have a Scooby Doo what I’m on about when I talk about it. But I love it.

Oh bloody hell. Another Christian plug. Go on then

I enjoy the simple things in life, time with the family, walks on the beach, beer parties, bitching at twats that show up from time to time on the forum. Anyways I have three lovely children (two boys and one girl), a lovely wife (who supports my bad habits), two dogs (Corgi's of course). I also sleep in the nude and watch alot of Horror movies...is that 50 words????

1, 2, 3 ah..... **** it who cares

Is this true then?

2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?
My first time seeing Star Wars was in its release year of 1977. My brother took me to a drive-in movie theater to see it. To say the least I was blown away at the ripe age of seven.

The drive in theatres at Michigan are a little different than one would expect. Perhaps a naïve Todd didn't understand dogging?

3. What does Star Wars mean to you?
It's all about my fond memories of what I consider a simpler time. Star Wars is a great expansive story of individuals who are somewhat misfits of society and I can relate...go figure.

4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?
I really have no goal or focus. I will continue to purchase anything Vintage Star Wars as long as I am able. My collection is diverse and a really mix of all things Vintage.

Todd has one of the best collections I have ever seen. It really is amazing that this collection has been together for as long as it has and that Todd wasn't tempted to part with some of this when 3 babies arrived on the scene

5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe (including a new character), who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

I think the independence of being a bounty hunter would suit me. No rules, adventure. Piss anywhere you want...go anywhere you want. **** the system.

It doesn't matter how much Todd acts the tough guy we all know deep down Todd is a loveable rogue

6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?

The prequels. Period.

7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?

I think my biggest achievement has been the fact that I have had my collection since the early 90's and have never sold up. I have trades and sold a few things, but as a whole..it remains the same collection I first started (In exception to is growing every year)

8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

Interesting question. I think overall some of the playsets were pretty shite. I think possibly more detailed or functional playsets. Maybe docking bay 94.

9. You have one minute with George Lucas. After you've thanked him for the saga, what would you say?

Can I have a loan?

But George isn't in it for the money I'm sure he'd give it to you

10. Why do you post on SWFUK?
I post here because this is a tight knit group of guys. We are real and not moderated whatsoever. When I first came here (Quite some time ago), the guys here embraced me and made me feel welcome (as opposed to that other forum). Overall I have made some true collecting friends here.

11. One word. Jedi or Sith?
I have always had extensive wood for the darkside...so Sith of course.

Sith Rock!

Lord Vader is delighted with the progress of (wtf do they call Sith padawans? I'm going to suggest Toddites) his Toddite. An Englishman in Kalamazoo.

Cheers Todd this has been a great read and you've really opened up here!

1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less

Fairly topsy-turvy kind of chap - I change from one moment to the next. Travelling along life's path without many cares nor worries. It's somehow working.

Hmmmm....... I sense a dark secret in all of this.

2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?

I was taken to the cinema when I was four years old by my mother. Had mixed emotions about it - very excited through most of it, but every time Chewbacca roared I hid down behind the seats terrified.

Yet you often cuddled up to him?

Still, Chewie can be quite scary at times

Or sexy

Or on the edge

3. What does Star Wars mean to you?

It means two things to me - family and imagination. Everything about Star Wars revolved around my family, so I have great memories of it. From being taken to my favourite toy shop after a visit to the dentists (when I was bought Bossk) to Christmases when my grandparents would spoil me (having pillowcases filled with presents of which most were figures).

Am I the only one thinking you've took advantage of an elderly couple, possibly with fading eyesight, by changing the socks you hang up at Christmas? That is certainly Sith like!

Then there's the imagination. The places I visited as a child in my mind - were amazing. I'm a dreamer and I try to actively encourage others to be so - we could all use a little more 'inner-child' these days. Everyone is too serious. Let go man.

4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?

My first goal coming into collection was simply to buy 1 of each character on the card of its film release (so Fett on ESB etc). As a child I had about 130+ figures and most ships but very few play sets. So thought I would get play sets too.

It didn't really go to plan. I decided to increase my collecting to involve 1 of every character on each film release plus the POTF line. Then Joe contacted me about buying his remaining (36?) Tri logos - so I ended up collecting those too.

So as it stands, I have every character on SW, ESB and RotJ - need 4 to complete POTF run and about 10 or so to complete a Tri logo run. My boxed vehicles, play sets and creatures are also completed.

Then I saw people doing focusses - something I hadn't even thought of. So I went ahead and started a Jawa one as that was my favourite figure. Sometimes wish I had not picked something so challenging (expensive).

Nick's limelight is just ...... just ....... well see for yourself

5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe (including a new character), who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

I would be a smuggler friend of Solo and Chewies I think. Out-running the empire. Getting wasted and spending time with hookers of varying species. These are things I imagine Solo to get up to really.

JawaNick as Solo's right hand man

6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?

The people who shout "sell out!" every time something from Star Wars is used in an advert - like the Yoda or C3PO/R2 adverts. It was like that from the start - it's always been a cash machine. It needed to be, to make more films. People need to get over themselves already.

While I am here. The Fett super-fans. He is a cool bounty hunter - looks cool -

Often!

but he went out like a chump because he's obviously not that good,

and after capturing Solo I think he got a bit disillusioned and his opiate addiction took its toll on him. I think they need to realise this. I don't want him brought back after somehow escaping the Sarlaac pit. Don't give me no extended universe excuses. He's dying, very slowly, over thousands of years. C'est la vie.

7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?

Probably getting my Canadian ESB special offer sand-crawler and finding a 21 back fett for under £600. Super happy.

Nick's Canadian Sandcrawler as discussed on Episode 3 of the SWFUK podcast.

8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

I'd have liked a proper Cloud City playset (not that cardboard plop). Something for Luke and Vader to battle it out on. From RotJ the imperial base on Endor or the Emperors throne room on the death star.

Yeah a cloud city playset would have been cool. With Luke falling down the shaft.

Also an idea I would have liked were larger playsets - that were made of 2-4 separate packs to keep the price down. So you could collect them and join them together

9. You have one minute with George Lucas. After you've thanked him for the saga, what would you say?

When I have finished bitch slapping him for 30 seconds, I would ask him why he took something spiritual (the force) and turn it into biology. I like the idea of the spiritual force, not this midichlorians bullshit. I'd also ask for the address of the people that chose the cast for the second trilogy...

I think a few people would just like to say, "Why, George, Why?"

10. Why do you post on SWFUK?

When I got into collecting (way way waaaay back... last year) I did some googling for some information and to see what forums were about to get some good info. I found 5 or so really. RS, TIG, Joes Trilogo, 12back.com and this awesome site called SWFUK. TIG and Joes site were a bit more specialised than I was looking for at the time (ie far too much info to take in as a newb). RS was too far up it's own arse to be of much use. 12back.com is handy for kenner cardback variants. But SWFUK seemed more friendly, informative and most importantly it was laid back. So for me it was a simple choice to have this as my main forum.

11. One word. Jedi or Sith?

As you can see from above, I don't do one word answers. So I'd say Jedi then almost Sith and then Jedi. Id start off with good intentions, be disheartened by the lack of justice - I'd go off the rails a bit. Then just as the Sith are winning I'd turn up at the opportune moment to save the day at the expense of my life. I have a martyr complex, so this would be good for me. I'd like to end my days like this - not from old age.

Off the top of my head we only have 1 Star Wars martyr. And he was an old man!

Lord Vader is very pleased with your responses. However, once one turns to the Dark Side he can never turn back. Unless you read the multiple examples in the EU. And Vader in ROTJ.

Cheers Nick and thanks for a great read

1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less

Very disorganised person and have slowly been tutored by my wife in the art of looking at the positives in life. My biggest achievement in life is meeting and marrying my wife and the arrival of my two kids, I'm really family oriented. Do tend to stress about stuff for no reason, bit of a worry wart, but always happy to lend a helping hand if I can.....wish the world was a nicer place, but we can all do our bit in a small way to make it that much better.

Mike's office at home

and upstairs.........

2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?

I was around 14 when SW came out so shamefully was interested in other things, when ROTJ came out on VHS ( told you I was old) I rented it and watched 3 times with my young son and we were hooked from then on. Which has continued to this day, I collect for myself Vintage, and joint collect with my son ( other collections as well MOTU, THUNDERCATS, TMNT etc).

Mike enjoys collecting other ranges of vintage toys too with his son

3. What does Star Wars mean to you?

Bit of an obsession really. Love collecting but am doing so on a very meagre budget, so very slow! I read EU every night, I post on the forum quite a lot!, I collect whatever I can, I draw pen and ink pictures of SW. Vintage characters, I trawl ebay for SW......and on and on.

SW also gives me a great excuse for me and my son to go back in time, and just have fun talking about collecting and collecting....it's a great feeling I can recommend to any dad!

4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)

I have collected for years but with no serious goal and just like many people bought anything SW since joining the forum I have been able to realise, over the years I have missed so many opportunities to pick up items and missed the boat.

My goals are still to collect what I like rather than what is the norms in collecting,

The dream for me will seem very basic to most, but it is now......

First 12 mail away stand to display first 12 figs
First 12 figures
Loose POTF last 17 loose figures with coins to display
Tri logo card backs

Then....., then....., sound familiar? It doesn't end does it.

Mike's limelights

5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe (including a new character), who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

Anything that would allow me to fly the Falcon....the most iconic thing for me about SW, what a ship and what it represents in the film.

Are you sure about that?

Existing character....would have to be Han

6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?

I don't really get annoyed about SW but just a little upset with the scammers in the collecting market, and when SW is taken too seriously. I'm really old fashioned and to me SW is the ultimate escapism, great invented world with fantastic characters.
I know the prequels get slated, but they are whatever you say a part of the whole SW story and I still watch them.
For me and collecting, the most annoying thing is the prices of vintage, but that's life I suppose, can't be helped.

7. What has been your greatest SW achievement

To others nothing, to me awesome, an EB LFB in a small shop for £6 in great condition, still have him and won't let him go ( even though the tip of his sabre is now broken!)
Plus passing the SW gene to my Son

Mike's bittersweet birthday present

8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

That for me is a hard one, and the simple answer is I can't think of one.....simple but true, a bit like me!
In retrospect things can always be improved but we have to remember initially with SW the response from the market was far more than expected and therefore production, marketing and so on had to play catch up for many a year....if they had been as slick as these days we would have been awash with early shite characters and first 12 would have been first 200! So in a way this enhanced the hobby for us if that makes sense

9. You have one minute with George Lucas. After you've thanked him for the saga, what would you say?

A simple Thank You....when all is said and done without GL there wouldn't have been SW, whatever the opinions on prequels and some mistakes, SW has brought so much to people and enriched popular culture.

see guys

10. Why do you post on SWFUK?

It's a fantastic community, full of great characters and very genuine guys...I have "met" some great guys on the forum and made some great friendships.
I love the way that you are not judged by the size of your collection,

the rarity of items you have, your opinions, or who you are. Everyone is taken at face value, and the support and assistance given by experts on here is awesome.
Without getting cheesy it's a really nice environment full of great things to say, 99% positive and brightens up your day, it's my escapism and I love it
I don't post on any other forums, really dislike FB and the like, but this forum is the best, and I would like to thank Edd for starting it all, he is a top man, and every single member for being part of this superb community.
Love to see the great guys doing for others, like Jez recent charity run...just awesome, and what a commitment.

Love the fun, love the information, love the limelights.
Fantastic forum long may it continue!

11. One word. Jedi or Sith?

It would have to be Jedi

1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less

My name is Lars I am 35 years old and live in Denmark about 20 km south of Copenhagen. I still have not found my Princess Leia yet so I can have a lot of younglings.
Princess Leia's aren't always what they are cracked up to be

I work as a warehouse manager in a company that import Panasonic, Morphy Richards, Babyliss and many other products. Which sometimes can be very good when I can buy to take home at the same price as the company pays for it.

Does your warehouse look like this?

2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?

One day some of the other kids in my kindergarten had their Star Wars toys with them in kindergarten and there I saw them for the first time so I would also have to have them, it was the Return of the Jedi period 1983 I think.

Would you like a look at my toys?

3. What does Star Wars mean to you?

Star Wars means a lot to me, my best toys, best films, best comic books and best audio books from my childhood. When I was a teenager I played Star Wars role-playing games and computer games. In 2001 I saw on the internet a Star Wars collection and I fell in with both feet. I decided that I would also have a collection with one of each thing and especially all the things I never had when I was a child. Then in 2001 I bought my childhood collection back from my little brother and the same year I sorted out in it and kept only the nicest things which I have regretted ever since. Since then it has gone overboard with my collection. But it's great and every time I see Star Wars toys so it reminds me of all the good memories of my childhood.

4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?

I still want one of each thing of the vintage toy. I would also like to have one of each variant of all characters, playsets and vehicles. One of each figure on moc. All tri-logo moc. Everything I can find of star wars from the 70s and 80s who have a piece of Danish history maybe some moc, card backs and boxes with old danish price tags on them. All cardback and box variants.

Lars needs to update his limelight!

5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe (including a new character), who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

I would like to be Grand Admiral Thrawn, bring peace to the galaxy, seduce Princess Leia and buy the Millennium Falcon from Solo and fly away with Leia

From this

To this

6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?

Repro stuff

But the Danish repro items are so cute

7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?

Wow there is a lot of them. But I think the best of them is when I found my Anakin Skywalker tri-logo moc with a Danish chok price sticker on in 2005. I now have 2 moc with Danish price stickers on them and it has taken me 13 years to find them. Looks like we Danes nearly opened all our moc.

As was meant to be

8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

Grand Moff Tarkin, one of the big characters from the first movie. Well it just felt wrong that we could not buy him and when I played who the **** would give the order to destroy Alderaan. There was no Tarkin

Not to forget this iconic scene

Something like this would have been so great

9. You have one minute with George Lucas. After you've thanked him for the saga, what would you say?

I don't think one minute will be enough for me, but I would just thank him for creating Star Wars.

Can I join you?

10. Why do you post on SWFUK?

It is a long story but I came from TIG, I was on Tig with my friend Soren. But in 2012 there were a lot of problems on that forum that did not make me happy. So Soren told me he had found swfuk and we both joined this fantastic forum the same day. People on this forum are fantastic, very nice, you guys love to help and share everything about Star Wars. This is the best forum in the galaxy

Wow I went back to read some of those threads - shameful! Some of the worst "holier than thou" snobbery I've ever seen. Glad TIG is not like that now and is a friendlier and more helpful environment.

11. One word. Jedi or Sith?

Sith

Excellent Lars Lord Vader is most pleased. However, you are far too polite to be a Sith so you are sentenced to more time on the forum until your lack of tolerance and bad language improves.

Cheers Lars!

Star Wars likeness match – Rebels' Version of Ben Kenobi

1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less

Well I am Junior Chubb, son of the Chubb and father of Chubb III. I thought I was a knowledgeable collector until I joined SWFUK, I soon realised how little I knew.

I love all things old-skool, I wear a casio watch, ride a BMX and don’t own a mobile phone.

Mumbo and JuniorChubb on a family bike ride

2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?

When Star Wars was first going to be aired on TV I remember my Dad (the Real Chubb) getting excited and going out to rent a video recorder so we could record it off the TV. We did and Mumbo and I watched it every morning of every school holiday and memorised it line for line, I think we memorised the adverts too.

Years later when the VHS was repossessed I remember sitting down to watch that copy of Star wars for the last time and letting out a tear as the Video Recorder was taken away.

And yet the Rumblelows man looked so friendly

3. What does Star Wars mean to you?

Childhood, stress free living, fun, imagination and above all escapism.

4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?

Unbelievably I still have not finished my loose run, the figures I need are either more expensive or undesirable (Ewoks and Imp Digs).
My Wally focus is faring better though.

My goals are a complete loose run, all major loose Wally variations and SW, ESB and ROTJ MOC Wallies.

Would you want as many wallies as this guy?

http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1019413/

5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe (including a new character), who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

It’s a tough call between Solo and Wally really. Solo is so cool and plays a pivotal role in things, would love to have that man’s swagger. Wally would be cool to, exploring the underworld of Mos Eisley and making the best of a bad lot.

I can see you as a Walrusman

Obviously inspired by your first kiss

If I went for a new character, a Jedi Aqualish (Jundo Chubb) would be great fun, I think there is a Sith Aqualish in the EU, I am sure you can confirm this Rich.

Indeed there are both. A Jedi Aqualish who appeared in a 2009 Clone Wars comic and an awesome Sith who appeared in one of the Knights of the Old Republic stories.

6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?

Where do I start?

Preferably by answering the question I just asked

George Lucas, plot holes, inconsistencies, midi-chlorians, flying R2 units, Greedo shooting first, the current shunning of the EU, Gungans and the list goes on.

A recent poll from SWFUK agrees most of your points

I think the most annoying thing is the inconsistency of the prequels to the original trilogy, everything was there on film to reference but hey lets ignore that, make R2 fly, changing Obi Wans teacher, I could go on but we all know the errors already.

Inconsistencies?

7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?

Nothing outstanding really, no major pick ups, scoops or high priced items. I have won some great prizes on SWFUK and done well with Secret Santa.

Some of Junior's collection

http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13546

http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11269

Pick ups aside my greatest achievement is getting Mumbo into collecting, it’s great having a brother who collects.

He's always had the better collection

However, this probably is a hell of an achievement! Who could forget the 2 DT Vaders he found in his collection?

And this nugget

http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=19400

8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

I always wondered why the Rebel Soldiers from the Tantive where never released. These guys are iconic especially considering their role in the opening scene. Why sell Stormies but not the guys they had this amazing laser blaster fight with?

Tarkin would have been cool but imperial officer can fill in for him, the Tatooine Spy and Dr Evazan are also strangely missing considering their roles in ANH. After the success of the first runs Kenner realised the selling power of lesser characters and left less gaps with the ESB and ROTJ.

9. You have one minute with George Lucas. After you've thanked him for the saga, what would you say?

Stop bullshitting and claiming all the changes you have implemented are what you had originally planned. Also if you are willing to let Lucas Arts financially gain from the EU, why not acknowledge it as canon before selling out to Disney.

10. Why do you post on SWFUK?

I originally came here for help, but have stuck around as from all the forums I have signed up to it is the friendliest and most fun. We do not take ourselves too seriously. Having said that we have some very knowledgeable members and players from the scene.

11. One word. Jedi or Sith?

Jedi of course.

Er... that's 3...... nevermind

Lord Vader is pleased with your responses Chubbles as we both know you're really a Sith spy who does as much as he can to humiliate his brother. Jealousy leads to..... something which I can't remember at the minute.

Q1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less

I'm Andy, a Londoner by birth but now live in Sheffield (and home is somewhere along the M40).

Next time you see a 'shag or spoon' phone on the M40, give him a call

I'm an archaeologist but I much prefer less ancient artefacts from the 1970s and 80s;

an early birthday photo

a family man with three kids who have all been instilled with a love of vintage SW, Arsenal and Half Man Half Biscuit - whatever you think this is you're wrong. They are an English rock band with a satirical/alternative take on music needless to say none of them like football and they much prefer Minecraft and Harry Potter.

Q2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?

I was 7 when I saw Empire Strikes Back in 1980 and have been hooked ever since. My first figures were Walrus Man, Lando and Han Hoth. I remember other kids having Star Wars figures and the Imperial Troop Transport before then but not really knowing what they were.

Q3. What does Star Wars mean to you?

Star Wars is mind boggling. There has never been a series of films before or since that inspired so many people and defined so many generations - it amazes me that the main cultural reference for kids today, and anyone between 20 and 45 is Star Wars and thanks to Disney will continue to be so for generations to come. I'm first and foremost all about the toys rather than the films, but the scale of what Lucas created is beyond comprehension.

Q4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?

I'm pretty much where I want to be with collecting, although I'm still after some of the rarer foreign Han Hoths for my main focus. Apart form the Canadian transition Han (which I've now missed out on twice )

hard to even find a picture of this guy

they are silly money even for vintage Star Wars.

This went for close to $4000 I believe

A MISB Die Cast TIE bomber is another thing I've passed on one too many times and I'm still after one to complete by carded DC run.

One of my other loves is die cast TIEs and the small wing DV TIE on a TIE card is the piece I'm after more than any other.

I'm inspired by some of the beater runs on SWFUK and I may try a 12 back beater run, I started one nearly 10 years ago but sold up to focus on Han - a lot more expensive to do any kind of 12 back run today.

Spoons' collection is fantastic and one of the few I've admired firsthand

http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11918

Q5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe, who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

A tough question, I'd be quite happy as a Mos Eisley Cantina alien watching the world go by - I probably wouldn't go much further than the bar, but if I had to take a holiday I might learn to ski on Hoth.

Chilling with the guys

or is it a case of this?

Q6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?

Jabba in the special edition Star Wars has to be epitome of all that is bad about Star Wars - what was Lucas thinking? He made a new film just so he could the insert the shittiest bit of CGI the world has ever seen

Q7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?

A 50p loose Luke Stormtrooper from a flea market in 1991 started it all off - I stopped playing with SW before the POTF range and never knew those figures existed until then. That Luke was the start of my loose collection and has to be up there with anything else I've bought.

There's been a few proper steals since then (DC TIE Bomber for £10) but my carded Han Hoth run is probably my biggest achievement, and one I don't think I'd have been able to do today. A lot of the cards are now very pricey or very scarce - 'U' grading has not helped in either case.

Q8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

As kids we really needed the rebel troopers from the blockade runner - I used to use the Death Squad Commanders as rebels because of the similar hats

I feel Bespin really was short changed in the toy line (but not for the micro collection). A carbonite chamber or Luke v Vader playset would have been great, and could have been made with a plastic base and card backdrop, or as a self contained toy like Vader's Star Destroyer

Bizarrely the podcast team have just been talking about this. Check out the next issue of Retroblasting where they talk about this too. Imagine a combination of Mr Frosty and the Kenner Death Star Playset!

Some cool customs

Q9. You have one minute with George Lucas. What would you say?

CGI Jabba why!!!!!!!

Early principle photography wasn't good either

or

how does it feel to be the most influential film maker of all time?

Q10. Why do you post on SWFUK?

It's the forum with the lest egos and with a real sense of community. I was a member on RS first but was invited over to SWFUK by Craig Macintosh (now sadly passed on) back in the day.

Nice to see his spirit lives on

I felt at home instantly at SWFUK and it became my main place to post - I can honestly say although avatars have changed the sense of community is just as strong.

RS had and still does have some great people on it but there is too much conflict and much less feeling of community - I hope it comes back. Although there has been a bit more conflict on SWFUK recently - worrying times..

Q11. One word. Jedi or Sith?

Jedi

(but Cantina aliens really can't be arsed taking sides)

Lord Vader is most pleased with your interview. He doesn't believe that a Cantina Alien could be a Jedi and it's much more likely you're a Sith in disguise. Just look at those sisters!

Cheers Andy for resurrecting this thread

The original one that is

Q1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less

I'm Andrew from near Wigan, Lancashire. Married 8 years with one 4 year old daughter. A self employed family tree researcher and online trader of everything.

A younger Andy

Q2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?

I can't really remember my 1st Star Wars moment. I didn't watch any films at the pictures, so probably first saw them hired on video tape. The first figure was bought by my elder brother. For some reason he picked a Leia Organa while on holiday in Dolgellau, Wales. I still have the very figure.

Now the question is... like most of us was it from a Scotch tape recording from the TV?

Or, did you own the tape?

Q3. What does Star Wars mean to you?

It's just something I've grown up with since as far as I can remember. The toys growing up and films being on at Xmas. Memories from the best time of year as a kid. As an adult I can buy all the figures and ships that I had no chance of getting as a kid.

Some great photos here

Andy the Magician (those eyes will haunt me forever)

Pulls a rabbit out of a minirig box

And then the minirig from out of the rabbit

Q4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?

I don't really have a focus and can't seem to stick to one thing, so have decided to collect everything. My next targets though are some more foreign or foreign imported mocs.

No limelights Andy - shame on you.

Q5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe, who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

I'd have to be able to use the force and fly my own ship. Perhaps some kind of Jedi Bounty hunter type bloke visiting various bars on different worlds in the hunt for Cornelius Evazan.

Surely Dr Evazan doesn't need a Jedi and Bounty Hunter looking for him? Fett dealt with the zombies in a cool way

Q6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?

The fact it's been turned into a massive capitalist money making brand to suck as much money from anyone who liked/likes it. Ok, modern kids need SW toys, but WTF are those angry birds about? That's not the Star Wars I love.

Q7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?

Probably to hold onto much of my childhood collection. I've got my childhood falcon + box, X wing and a bundle of figures. I did sell some to fund purchases when I started collecting again, but glad I resisted selling ones which meant the most.

Q8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

Probably Dr Evazan. Said arguably one of the most memorable lines in the whole trilogy. Oft quoted in my childhood. Beats two Klaatu's.

The modern figure didn't really get it right did it?

Q9. You have one minute with George Lucas. What would you say?

I'm not very talkative so I'd probably just give a friendly nod if our eyes meet and maybe stretch to an "Et awreet".

Translation for our International Friends - "Hey George, how do you groom that bushy moustache of yours?"

Q10. Why do you post on SWFUK?

It's a world of information and Star Wars contacts. To have you chaps as trustworthy sellers and dealers takes away the risks of bidding on Ebay. It's a must for any serious collector.

Q11. One word. Jedi or Sith?

Jedi

I'm sorry but from your childhood photos - once a Sith always a Sith. Although Wigan fans seem to enjoy punishment. Lord Vader will be watching you.

Cheers Andy and thanks for the interview :D

Q1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less
Fashion conscious

really?

father of two, with a huge love of vintage SW toys. Buying and Merchandising Manager for English Heritage by day and Personal Trainer by night. Addicted to running since starting in 2010 and having completed 10 marathons in 2014 I’m looking forward to many more in 2015…

You may have seen Steve is cosplay doing one of his Marathons

Q2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?
My first real memories are twofold:
- Being rushed to see Empire at the cinema in Weymouth while on holiday with my older cousins – blew my head off and we went back again twice in the week we were there!

Watching SW so much as a child contributed to his early weight problem. Perhaps that's why he is a fitness fanatic now?

- Playing with a friend’s landspeeder and figures in their front garden… it seemed to hold so much magic and I’m not 100% sure I had even seen ANH at that point.

Q3. What does Star Wars mean to you?
It’s a comfort blanket I guess in some ways, it’s something that has been with me all my life and it’s something I can rely on being there ever more. The words ‘Star Wars’ themselves evoke a great deal of emotion and deep set memories, most of all though it’s the toys and the Christmases at my grandparents even more than the films that make me smile whenever times are down…

Q4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?
I’m looking at a few hard to find items to finish a few ‘sets of products’ I have rumbling on; I’m about three boxed vehicles/playsets short of a full basic set (in any packaging) and I’m a few Droids and Ewoks cartoon loose figures away from finishing that set too. Longer term, I’d love to have every character from the OT lines MOC (any character on any CB will do before I then look at being more specific), but I’m less than 60% through the possible characters, so this is a no-rush target.

Steve has a most impressive collection, displayed well in a compact space

http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20973

Q5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe, who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?
Not something I’ve ever considered until you posed this question.. I guess like many others, being a Jedi and learning mastery of the force is every (big) kids dream, I think after that though, exploring and seeing the universe is more interesting than fighting in wars etc..

A fraidy cat jedi?

Q6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?
I’m going to be controversial… For me the most irritating thing is the general snobbery and position most ‘fans’ and for that matter outsiders take in hating the prequels. It’s very trendy to knock things rather than see the good in things. There is no doubt, Jar Jar is pretty sh*t and McGregor’s accent is laughable, Midichlorians are bizarre etc. etc., but it is and always was a film series aimed at children and having two myself, I can categorically say they don’t care, they like spaceships and aliens and fighting and (scary to admit) they like the jokes that come from the Gungan just like they like the daft cuddly teddy bears in ROTJ. They could have been better but they are not the worst films ever made and more importantly, without them we would not have EP7, 8 & 9 coming…

Some good points here.

Q7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?
It’s the little things for me, my biggest sense of achievement was getting a full run of loosies, but it’s never enough is it.. variants.. Ewoks… Droids… ships… playsets… will the madness ever end?!?!?

Right here....

Q8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?
Two figures I’ve never understood to be so easily missed; Tarkin and The imperial Spy other than that I would have loved a Bantha as a kid, but can you imagine how matted and rank they would be in the second hand market for collectors now!

I think this is the reason they weren't on sale

Q9. You have one minute with George Lucas. What would you say?
All the thank you’s aside, I’ve always been curious how he made such a massive jump from THX-1138 being super sharp and clean visually to the lived in, rough and ready world we know and love from ANH… something must have triggered it and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen it documented.

Q10. Why do you post on SWFUK?
I initially, as most people I guess, lurked around a while, then I needed a hand with a valuation (big thanks to Frank) and then I decided to sell something and having seen how helpful people can be if you are helpful and make an effort back, I pitched in a few comments then stepped into looking to pick up a few bits; thanks to all sellers on here for being so great and a special thanks to Iain and Christian for helping me with the world of Acrylic cases and display gear… it’s changed my collection to something I no longer stash in boxes to something I’m beyond proud of!

And another lurker bursts through to the Dark Side

Q11. One word. Jedi or Sith?

Jedi!

Wow someone who can answer the question properly

Lord Vader is most impressed with your dedication to fitness. A military trait if there was one. On the balance of probability there is more than a little Imperial in you and Vader is pleased enough to release you back into the wild.

cheers Steve for a great interview

Q1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less
I'm 38, married with 2 kids. Although I've been a life long Star Wars fan, my involvement in the hobby only started during the release of the prequels where I gained an interest in collecting items from my childhood.

I think 99% of the SW collecting community can relate to this

Like his cool car and jumper collection

Q2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?
When I was younger I had a few older friends Really?
who lived on the same street. One in particular was an only child and he always seemed to have all the cool toys. I remember nagging my mum to buy me the weekly marvel ROTJ comic after reading his, something I enjoyed reading all the way from my first issue (#17) to the day it ended.

Where it started

Q3. What does Star Wars mean to you?
Star Wars to me is simply the greatest sci-fi story ever created. A classic tale of good vs evil which I have enjoyed from an early age to this very day.

Q4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?
My original collecting goal like many was to collect a loose figure run. This goal is pretty easy to achieve and like many once you reach this goal you quickly start to branch out. So next was loose playsets and vehicles and then a run of MOC's. I nearly completed my run of MOC's but quickly found that due to the lack of display space and the increasing prices I decided to sell them off to fund other areas of my collection.

My current collecting goals are loose variants and i'm pretty sorted when it comes to foreign produced figures so for now i'm concentrating on filling my collection with COO variants. I also have a side focus of vintage paperwork and when I lose the COO bug I swap over to that, that way I can keep myself actively buying and sane!

I have a limelight of my paperwork over on TIG which i'm currently working on and not complete....

Q5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe, who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?
I think I'd be a smuggler like Han Solo,

although a scoundrel he's still a lovable rogue and the thought of wheeling and dealing from one of the galaxy to the other sounds very appealing.

Ain't that cute

Q6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?
I think at times people forget that whilst we have grown up, Star Wars is still aimed at the younger generation and the comical elements like Jar Jar bloody Binks have been added for their enjoyment and not ours. I can't honestly remember being bothered by the Ewoks when I was younger, in fact Logray was one of my favourite figures!

So back to the original question what annoys me.... The Clone Wars, man that cash cow was milked dry. The only saving grace was the last few episodes where Yoda learns about immortality which nicely tied into the films.

Q7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?
I'm known in some circles as a "speed collector" due to the rate I somehow managed to acquire items at. However as my family has grown this has slowed down considerably as my free time seems to get less and less. My greatest collecting achievement to date was completing my Argentinian Top Toys set in 6 months, a pretty hard task for any seasoned collector, especially sourcing those elusive accessories!! Just like my Glasslite and Droids guides over on TIG I plan to release a Top Toys one this year so watch this space.

Q8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?
I actually think Kenner did a pretty good job of releasing most if not all of the vehicles which appeared in the original trilogy. It's at this point most people say why didn't they release a Rebel Trooper or slave girl Leia so to be different I'll pick the Tusken's favourite mode of transport the Bantha.

Q9. You have one minute with George Lucas. What would you say?
I'd thank him for creating the Star Wars universe and then ask him to twist someone’s arm to get me a piece part in one of the upcoming new films.

Not much chance I'm afraid

Q10. Why do you post on SWFUK?
It was Liam that originally introduced me to SWFUK not long after I joined up to TIG. I try to divide my time between the 3 main forums to suit my foreign variant addiction but feel the censorship on RS is way over the top at times so that forum is mainly used for acquisitions rather than discussion. SWFUK is great for allowing people to openly express their opinions which makes for some great reading, however as long as TIG has a heart beat that is where my pipe and slippers will reside. But either way the collecting world has no boundaries as most people have multiple memberships to more than one forum and/or FB group so discussions for me tend to flow across several mediums.

Q11. One word. Jedi or Sith?
One word, can I cheat and pick one name? Quinlan Vos.

Hehe and for those don't recognise that name you need to check out the expanded universe, who says you can't have the best of both worlds!!

Ah... that explains this then

Lord Vader is most impressed with this detailed interview. You clearly have Sith tendencies and you will be released to spread the Sith word.

Big bloke.. likes things. Especially Star wars, Leamington FC (volunteer, coach of two teams, community events, whatever), AFC Wimbledon (founder member), making and writing fanzines, and all the girlie things in star wars especially Princess Leia. I’m basically a fangirl without being a girl.

Pete in Ghent last year

Q2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?
I blame my mother and my brother. My brother was influenced by his school mates and badgered my mother to take him to see this film everyone had to see. My mum thought Star Wars was a pop group

inspiration for this?

and took us both to a matinee - technically my brother would have been skiving off school as we went to avoid the crowds. It was at the Regal Cinema in Leamington Spa which is still there today.

Hope they got the toilet's fixed after free coca cola day caused a scene

It’s now a Vue multi-screen, but I still love the place dearly. I fell asleep towards the end of the film (I was just coming up to 4 years old) although I do remember the X-Wings.
The first figures I had would have been the droids and Darth Vader, I recall my brother having the DSC. I have vague recollections of ripping Darth off his card and smelling the minty fresh cape. I used to love smelling things that were new like the catalogues my mother got.. y’know, the Kays catalogue with all the figures in at the back (before the teenage years where I never got past the lingerie section.. ahem).

Researching 1980s Kays Catalogues has been cool

Carded figures were where it was at. Seeing those things at Toytown and Jordan’s were a real buzz. And I can still see them now. Birthdays and Christmas were all about how many figures I could get away with having, my allowance at xmas didn’t stretch very far, so it might have been a second hand ship (or something like the X-wing or snowspeeder) and one or two figures. Seeing that familiar shape of the figure in wrapping paper knowing it was one of the ones I wanted and getting to it was pure joy and anticipation all rolled into one - and that gets repeated a little today when I make a vintage purchase. My clearest memory was opening ESB figures, especially Hoth Luke, the rebel soldier, Bespin Luke, Bespin Han and my brother with his 2-1b which I was secretly jealous of because of his vibrant colour and cool weapon/stick thing.

Q3. What does Star Wars mean to you?
Star Wars has always been part of my life. Everything I knew growing up resonated from the film and the characters. Our old red Ford Granada was the Millennium falcon

as my dad kept it going, even replacing the engine once. He was a dab hand at things like that and as we didn’t go abroad for family holidays ( he served national service placed in Germany and thus decided foreign places were a bit silly) so we spent a lot of time in the car (with caravan) in England. It was creaky, had leather seats, it never really did more than 50mph but it was part of the family. Even now when I watch Star Wars I think of that car and one of us holding a spanner late into the night, or early on a Saturday morning whilst dad fixed something (swearing at me or my brother when he’d accidentally cut into something he shouldn’t). After 12 odd years it finally went, we actually sold it (aside from the body, most bits had been replaced). People thought we had left town, as everyone knew us from that car. I regret not hanging onto it for my sixth form days, although it was probably a good thing, the left hand drivers door fell off. If the falcon gets destroyed in TFA I will ****ing cry like a child. My dad was definitely Chewbacca, the scene in Empire where he’s waving his arms around growling with spanners in his mitts was probably a recreation of him. I was obsessed with Star Wars. I was always known as the kid into Star Wars and I was torn to pieces having forced myself to sell most of it off to buy a computer (C64). But between me and my brother, this new technology was truly breathtaking having already owned a ZX81, he had a Spectrum. I can still remember the day I sold my stuff off, I had it all laid out on the landing as a friend came by and bought most of it, and the cheeky bastard tried to trade some Star Trek crap for the bits I refused to let go. Star Wars and computers have been a major part of my life and that relationship continues to the day. My star wars figures and weapons remained in a white mailing box and the only ship I kept was the only boxed proper ship my mum brought new, that’s my X-wing. I couldn’t sell it. I had the ATAT, the falcon but they were 2nd hand items (oh yeah, and a mini rig). that mailing box I still have and its kept my figures or what remained of them, safe for 25 years and has travelled with me as I have lived all over the place. Now its been re-opened and the set is almost complete.

Q4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?
To use star wars figures to reconnect with those happy times, and try to remember the moments of wonder. I got some of that back getting my first vintage MOC, one of my most regretful moments, which I want to repair, was seeing an advert in a catalogue or comic, for the micro collection. I poured over that image of the Bespin playset for hours wishing I could have it. It looked incredible. The guy at Jordans toyshop in Leamington sadly told me he wouldn’t have any in, as it was USA only. I was gutted. Over the years I convinced myself they never existed. So I wouldn’t mind getting those. I want to continue the Leia MOC run, just each Leia on a card. Then maybe get the figures I really liked.

no limelighting from Pete but here's a post you may want to read and his Clipper ROTJ Leia MOC

http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=23567&p=319315&hilit=clipper#p319315

Q5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe, who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?
I’d be Princess Leia’s personal bra fitter and hairdresser.

Really? Hope you have a 4 man tent handy

Q6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?
Star Wars is family. I love it, and it’s an unconditional love which allows me to be a harsh judge if I have to, it doesn’t diminish anything, that just means the relationship for the parts I really like are stronger. But there are many things that really piss me off.
1. some of the additions to the OT. I liked the fact some things were cleaned up. The effects and green screening always annoyed me and I was glad those things were changed. but Jedi rocks, Jabba in star wars, han v greedo, that stupid robot hitting scene, etc. Those things were ****ing **** and the more I see them the more it winds me up. the subtle changes were great though. cloud city felt like a big city. even though I loved yubnub, i actually don’t mind the new ending.

2. new fans who like the prequels more. sorry, its snobbish, but if you watch the OT and then accept Jar Jar Binks then you aren’t a proper star wars fan (you are a fan, but you are like one of those football fans who has never been to a game and watches from the armchair but expresses how much of a fan they are in the pub and get all their facts from Championship Manager). I talked about star wars being family - Jar Jar is that relative who’s done something really badly wrong and you are always a little uncomfortable around him (maybe inappropriately fondled the family cat after a few brandies). I’ve tried really hard, but I ****ing hate him. He’s ****.
3.rare. most star wars things aren’t rare. its mass produced, yes, I’m not talking proofs etc, but when I see “yak face rare”, I want to slap that person.
4. The obsession with Boba Fett that has caused him being spoilt. We have a **** backstory now, and his entire mystery is ruined. bastards.. hopefully Disney will focus on the black bespin guard as the stand alone film.
Hven't you seen the leaked photo from the standalone? You keep your BBG

Q7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?
Not many really, I’m not a big time collector. I guess completing my episode 1 carded run could be seen as an achievement, and being a couple away from my loose vintage set. I really don’t see it then as achievements, its more loving my plastic liaisons. Thinking about star wars just fills me with warm happy memories and those hours upon hours I played with my figures, creating epic story lines with a real mixture of the figures I had. So my biggest achievement will be to regain over and over those warm memories I had when I was a child. I recently picked up a second cloud car pilot loose just to relive that acquiring joy. Along with black Bespin guard, Han Bespin, Leia Organa and Boushh, Chewbacca and R2 these are the figures who formed the coolest brat pack in my adventures. I’d maybe like to get them all MOC.

Q8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?
the Biggs scene to be put into the film. myself and my brother were convinced it was in the film as we had the picture book and it was our only real film reference years before dad was persuaded to get a video recorder. there was a brotherliness about Biggs and Luke and that's why we both liked it. I was Luke and Biggs was my older brother going off to new things that I had to wait to do. that still resonates today, but the omission I think affects the death of Biggs at the end of me. the radio dramas present that a lot better and Luke's puppy dog love for Biggs is far stronger. when Biggs dies in the radio drama, it makes me cry.as for figures, it has to be a vintage slave Leia and a vintage Leia celebration, and a Biggs, his cut scene he had the coolest garb (a cloak.. I love cloaks). basically anything princess Leia. When it comes to Star Wars, not enough princess Leia outfits for my liking.

Q9. You have one minute with George Lucas. What would you say?
George. hi. nice beard. what would the world be like if star wars hadn’t have happened, what would be the influence. Would i have grown up completely differently and not be obsessing over small plastic figures.

Q10. Why do you post on SWFUK?
It’s a forum, and it needs posts… like an electronic Sarlacc it will devour us all for a 1000 years. I found the forum by accident perusing the farthest from Facebook page and seeing myself in the image gallery winning a star wars competition as a youth. Pete is the guy on the left as if you couldn't tell with the mushroom haircut

I’ve been part of a few forums and know that it would be a place to share with everyone how knowledgeable I was. After 5 minutes, I realised I knew diddly squat about the hobby and was hooked. It’s a warm place full of star wars goodness and I can express myself rather than boring my friends on other forums about Star Wars. I do like to bore others with my ‘new found’ knowledge from the forum. They don’t care, but I like to pretend they do.

Q11. One word. Jedi or Sith?
Clearly I don’t do one word answers, I like the rumour that TFA we will see something in-between, and that I find far more interesting.

With your love of all the perviness that goes on in the SW community you are clearly a Sith. Lord Vader can't wait to see the results once you're unleased in Anaheim.

Cheers for a great interview Pete!

Q1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or lesser

Well my names Andy, I'm originally from Beverley in East Yorkshire, She wasn't easy to find. Here's Bev

I moved to Rotherham about 12 years ago, I work in IT and I've been a man for the past 10 years. edit 1 - That makes total sense.
Andy in his 20s

Edit 2 - sorry must have been a corrupt email here is the original line

I've been a manager for the past 10 years, I have 2 beautiful children and a bloody large...toy collection :) I cant stop collecting toys from my childhood.

Q2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?

My first memory was walking into our local toy shop and seeing the huge array of figures, I don't remember the advertisements for the film, just standing looking at all the figures, it went from there to playing star wars in the school playground, and then seemed to phase out as he-man took over.

Perhaps the old cinema which re-opened in '82 showed Jedi?

Q3. What does Star Wars mean to you?

We were quite a poor family so star wars was limited, I think I had to wait until it came out on Betamax to watch it, If you had a Betamax player then you weren't poor! Unless this was the 90s of course :D I never had many figures, but I loved the films and watched them again and again. Then one xmas my cousins brought me two bags of their "old toys" they were full of gold, at-at, death star playset, at-st, minirigs and probably 100 figures, I was shaking :) that embossed star wars in my brain and its been there ever since

Q4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?

I chopped and changed for years and then finally decided about 3 years ago to start a Klaatu skiff focus, I remember my mother telling me if I was really good for a week she would buy me a ROTJ figure, well I was good and when she picked me up she presented me with Klaatu.......I cried....so I thought it fitting to focus on him, I've now got a nice run of proof cards, moc and loose figures, I'm still trying to acquire pieces but its getting quite tough.

Andy's Klaatu run is well worth checking out

http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18741

Q5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe, who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?

I'd have to be boba fett, a bounty hunter free to roam and paid loads to kill or detain, he was my favourite character and always will be. although I hated his ship, it looks like an iron!

Wow! Jason Smith..... worth investigating?

Q6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?

Ewoks..what a waste of a sci-fi movie's time

Q7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?

It has to be a complete run of klaatu skiff proof cards 77, 79, POTF simple but yet satisfying. I did have a nice set of Lili Ledy figures too, I love the Mexican variants, true variants, I'm not into coo or hair differences, the Ledy Jawa, Burgundy Bib etc are fab figures and I will get them again one day.

Q8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?

I would have liked a proper full featured Sarlacc Pit to play with, that's one of the best scenes for me, Jabba's palace onwards. also a Grand Moff figure would have been cool.

I never found the Sarlaac game but it wasn't really what we could have had

Q9. You have one minute with George Lucas. What would you say?

well done...now lets have a look round Skywalker ranch whilst having a beer :)

Q10. Why do you post on SWFUK?

Its the best forum bar none, great set of members, laid back but straight to the point, even the weirdos like Todd make the place what it is, strange that one day I'd like to meet him...lol

Q11. One word. Jedi or Sith?

JEDI

Lord Vader is not pleased with your response and will watch you most closely. He's sure that there's a bit of the dark side to explore.

Cheers Andy for a great interview. You're definitely in our top 5 favourite mods!

Q1. Tell me about yourself in 50 words or less
35, happily married father of Luke (3) geek points right there! How did you get that past the wife? and Lowenna (5). I work from home 7 days a week which means I get to enjoy lots of time with my family who are everything to me. Star Wars pops into my head every 5 minutes and my other passion is football.

Q2. How were you introduced to Star Wars?
On my third birthday I was given the Millennium Falcon, AT-ST and Snow speeder and that was it really. My Mum threw all the boxes out and I went nuts, never chucked any out since. Don't remember seeing Star Wars for the first time which I think is a shame, but then again I don't remember Star Wars not being part of life which is nice.

Q3. What does Star Wars mean to you?
When I was a kid it meant escapism, excitement and the never ending world of imagination. It's still all those things and more, a bridge to my childhood. I had a friend who was into Star Wars like myself and he died when I was 8 and I guess I like to think Star Wars is a way of remembering him. Ouch - dreadful for a child to go through

Q4. What is/are your collecting goal(s)?
Collect the 96 Kenner debut MOC's is my goal at the moment. After that would like to get into foreign MOC's. Up until about 10 years ago I always just collected what I felt like at the time and never had any real focus. Then I completed my loose run and decided to go for the 12 Backs and so on.

A tremendous run of cards displayed very well

Q5. If you could become part of the Star Wars universe, who would you be, what would you like to do, where would you go?
I would like to be something between a Sith and a Jedi, I mean if your part of the Star Wars universe you have to be able to use the force and have a lightsabre but you don't want to be a physico like the Sith or have all those rules like the Jedi. Basically Han Solo with the force and a lightsabre, cruising around in the Millennium Falcon. First stop would be the Moss Eisley Cantina and hang out with Walrusman on a 3 day bender.

A drunken Solo

Mixed with Jedi potential like Jacen

Would lead to some interesting pub games

Q6. What is the most annoying thing about Star Wars?
People who assume if you like Star Wars you must like Doctor Who and Star Trek. Also prequel trilogy haters, ok the first 2 films are bad but it's still Star Wars and by the time Episode 3 came along everyone had made their minds up, it did my head in and I really enjoyed ROTS.

Not people who know you like SW so think you are interested in every bit of tat available such as bottle openers at Sainsburys?

Q7. What has been your greatest Star Wars collecting achievement?
Never selling anything and collecting all the Kenner 12 Backs on a shoe string budget.

Q8. What from the original trilogy that wasn't released would you have liked to see and why?
The carbonite chamber would have been great, imagine if you had been able to put any figure in and pull a leaver or something and then pop out Boba Fett or Luke in a reusable carbonite case. Kenner could have repackaged some of the main figures with their own carbonite block.

Some of the customs for Bespin I've seen are insane. Here are some from RS

Q9. You have one minute with George Lucas. What would you say?
First I would thank him for dedicating 10 years of his life to pioneering a revolution in film making of which we will never see again and then ask him if he regrets how he went about the prequel trilogy and selling Star Wars for $4.2 billion. I would probably actually just clam up and say you al-right.

Q10. Why do you post on SWFUK?
Before the internet and ebay, collecting Star Wars was really fun, going to car boots, finding shops that still had vintage Star Wars and looking through collecting magazines. Then all of a sudden everything was a couple of clicks away and without realising a lot of the fun slowly went. Collecting just became about logging onto ebay and searching 'Star Wars Vintage' for me which is really not good. Then I started checking Forums and spent some time skimming over them. I eventually chose SWFUK to join and straight away I felt part of the collecting world again and realised it was a part of collecting that I enjoyed through looking at other collections and gaining information. Now instead of boring my wife with Star Wars talk I probably bore everyone on SWFUK, much better for my marriage and it’s help make collecting fun again.

Q11. One word. Jedi or Sith?
Sith

Lord Vader is very pleased another open Sith is in the ranks. Now go chop up some Wallies :D

Cheers Adam thanks for a great interview
