On a huge learning curve and something just got me thinking...

i read on several threads etc.. that the VCJ was discontinued because it was too expensive..Is that correct... So my query is.. if thats the case, why was Ben still made with a vinyl cape..after all, his cape was renowned for being cut down to be made into a jawa cape..almost identical..but surely more expensive as hes twice the size of a jawa..

Rob

Think it was more to do with the Jawa being such a tiny figure, having a plastic cape made it look cheaper. Having a nice cloth cape made it worth its value.... at the time that is.

hah ok thu... like The Sun newspaper about 25 years ago sayig the internet would never take off, like the sinclair 5

Yes Mark's right, Kenner wanted to add value to the little Jawa so they gave it a luxury cloth cape.

Ironically they could never have foreseen that their decision would in fact add s**tloads of value to the vinyl version.

My theory was always that Ben Kenobi, Vader and Leia were major caractors so sold themselves pretty much, but then if that was the case why didn't Sand People have a cloth cape?! Perhaps a major part of the thinking was that the Jawa looked cheap was because the VC Jawa looked nothing like the screen version? :?

It's amazing really to think that through the entire line the other figures weren't given cloth capes on later cards, with how successful they were and all that. Every kid would have wanted the cloth version of Vader you would have thought?

I have to say I really like the vinyl cape on Darth. A cloth cape might have looked cool on Kenobi but something about the reflective sheen of Vaders costume means that vinyl actually worked very well.

I new that comment would be controversial.

Problem I had with Vader as a kid was when you wanted him to sit in a Tie Fighter or AT-AT you had to take is cape off. My Vader cape was ruined because of this!
