The 4 rare Palitoy 30a's

Looking at Palitoyjunkys great Palitoy catalogue here:

Assortment 33347 says 6 new ESB characters (30a), box size 48 units.
Assortment 33348 says 10 ESB characters, the original 6 from 33347 and 4 new ESB characters, available "later". Same box size.

Assuming the later 4 were Bossk, IG88, FX7 and the WBG then their lateness to the market might explain why they're tougher to find now mightn't it? Particularly if the 30a run was short and then ran into the 30b/41 back runs, and also due to the fact that they're less iconic than the Luke/Leia/Han/Fett/Yoda characters available in the other runs.

Nice to speculate on what things we see now might have been caused by. Bet the Palitoy rep had a nice minty box of Asst 33347 stashed in his garage.

Yes it is v interesting stuff in the cat and naturally I too was wondering what 4 Empire debuts were released last :?:
I did think about the 4 toughies being released last but Bossk was the secret action figure advertised on a Kenner 21 back so would he not have been an early release?
My theory on the SW figures being ultra rare on 30 back is that they were released last of all on 30 back cards so right at the end of the run therefore made for an extremely short time :!:

I've always seen then first 10 as an clear 5/5 split.

The four mentioned plus the HST being the tougher ones, with the remaining 5 (Luke & Leia Bespin, HRS, Han Hoth and Lando) being far easier.

The order of difficulty on these ten have varied over the years (mostly dependent on what people are looking for at that time) but they have always been within that same split

I think you're probably right Gary, the HST is tougher than the 5 you mentioned. I only really put that split because I'v seen a small number of HSTs come up for sale recently but next to none of the other 4 so thought it might be a bit more common relatively speaking.

Perhaps like Jon said, with the Bossk being the offer figure, perhaps that's rare because Palitoy knew many kids already had it so produced less on MOCs so now it's rarer, and the HST itself was the 4th of the second wave of 30a cards with FX7, Iggy and the WBG.

We might never find out unless someone finds a case of the 33348 assortment.

Just a thought but that might also explain why the 30 back Boba Fett is so hard to come by as this was the first mail away figure.

I do not think one can now divide the first 10 in a 50/50 split with respect to rarity due to what has been turning up on Vectis over the past year or so. There have been a fair few Hoth Troopers :!: Therefore I think it is defo a 6-4 split with WBG, FX-7, Bossk and IG-88 being the 4 toughies. Who knows what 6 and 4 were released originally :?:
