Hey fellas,

I've recently placed a few of my SW opened set on feebay to raise some more cash for the dub build. Today I had a bidder place some bids on a few with a feedback score of 5 two of which complained that he never paid. His most recent purchase however he did pay for.

What would you guys do, it always unnerves me when low number bidders bid as it is as I always fear people will be suspect of shill bidding but at the same time if I block him what's to say he doesn't start up another account out of spite and **** up the rest of my auctions.

I even considered sending him a PM in regards to his intentions but thought better of it as if he's a deadbeat bidder it would only egg him on.

Good old Ebay.

Any and all opinions as always welcomed.

Ryan

Not a lot you can do now. My account is set so that people with a low non paying record can't bid. What i would do is set your account to open a non-payment case after 2 or 4 days after the end of the auction. If he hasn't paid by then you'll have to realist it with your settings changed.

Difficult one.

People have to start somewhere. I thought I was 'shilled' out of an auction recently by a 0Rep bidder. And like a sad old owl, I kept watch. But the (0) rated buyer has since gone onto buy a number of star wars items from all over the world in a couple of months, so just somebody new to ebay. And all feedback points to that case.

Some newbie ebayers have to get used to ebay, and also paypal what with security questions etc, so might struggle to understand the process (or think that they can change their mind without saying anything after they win). If I get that sort of delay from a relatively experienced number then I'm suspicious. So far, I've always aired on the side of caution being on extra alert with newbies and its paid off.

Use your gut instinct.. or the force.

Best leave it be in my opinion and if low rated buyers unnerve you then block them in your settings so you don't have to deal with them, if they really want your item they will be in touch and then you can go from there.

As for this one he's done it in the past which leaves you sweating a bit, he may not even win your item but he if he does then I hope he doesn't mess you about. If it goes tits up be sure to open up a case against him otherwise sellers with filter settings that try and bar these types of wankers may have the misfortune of having him bidding on their items.

Good luck with the sales :)

Not that i disagree with the advice above; just want to be clear i wasn't talking about blocking bidders with low feedback. I sell to dozens of zero feedback buyers every month. They're very common and don't always mean trouble.
But blocking people who have a previous record of not paying for things is vital. In my mind there is no good reason for any person who sells on ebay not to have already done this. You can't avoid not payers altogether, believe me, i get about 20-30 of them a month, every month, it just comes with using ebay unfortunately and ebay really aren't that bothered. Personally i think all buy it nows should require immediate payment (just like all other websites on the internet) and money bid in auctions should automatically go on hold and unless the buyer has a genuine reason not to pay (misleading sale, ship bidding etc) then the payment should be made automatically. The buyer has already sanctioned the transfer of the funds by bidding so there should be no problem with this.
Sadly, ebay would never do anything that smart for fear it would put off potential bidders but i'm pretty sure people would get used to it in no time at all and all it would do is put off time wasting cretins who don't follow through with purchases.

I agree with this 100%. What's with people bidding at the last second, but then not paying for ages? If your online to bid at the last second then you can pay 30 seconds after that. I bid at the last few seconds on something a few weeks ago and paid within 30 seconds and I was out running a 10k whilst doing this.

Let me see..............Sensible and logical idea that would reduce the amount of scammers and low lifes on eBay. Tick.

Odds on eBay doing it, infinity to 1.

Odds on eBay doing something completely counter to this, like holding the sellers money until the buyer confirms they are happy with the item. 1,000 to 1!

There is no company I know that ****s its customers as much as Ebay.

Wow! You can do that? I had no idea.

Is it possible to then receive an email from a low feedback bidder and unblock them from these settings?

I'm not sure. I don't want to deal with people who don't pay for things, i think they're scum personally so i've never thought about it.

Spot on

Thanks fellas, Pete, how do you go about blocking members with a history of non payment? I wouldn't want to block members with low feedback numbers as we all started out as new members at sometime just worry what other bidders think when they see the low number bidders bidding up the price due to ignorance.

It still surprises me somewhat to see the price of items getting bid up early as I always personally wait til the last few seconds to place mine.

In 'My ebay' next to message tab -
Go to 'account'
>SIte preferences
>[scroll down] Buyer requirements
>Block bidders who…
>Edit (you can select the amount of non payment records- 1, 2, 3, 4 etc and within what time frame they have been recorded- 1 month, 2 moths, 6 moths, a year etc)

I place low bids early & 'play' with them. I still get enjoyment out of the auction process including getting up at stupid o'clock :)
