How come most people just want everything for free, or they keep supporting Disney instead of fan films and projects, despite them hating Disney Star Wars and wanting change?

This is so hypocritical to me, and It's the only solution to get better Star Wars out there, cause when somebody has a monopoly on something, like Disney with Star Wars, them failing and make bad content over and over again has no consequences for them, cause they're the only provider of the content basically.

How many of you don't support Disney and have paid money on Patreon or donated in other ways to fan films and projects?

Fan made stuff based on IP owned by other people is 'mostly' illegal. There are some uses that fall under fair game - namely satire, but that's about it. However, for the most part as long as people don't make money from it, the IP owners let it slide, not all of course, and oddly Disney are one of the people that do go after folks quite hard..., but as soon as people are asked to pay for fan made stuff then that line is well and truly crossed, even if it is just covering costs.

Then you get into the quality issue. A lot of fan made stuff is not great, but even when it is great, it all gets lumped together and that drives the expectation that people don't want to or shouldn't pay for something that isn't as good as the real thing, backed by the real owners and is essentially being made for fun. Whether that is fair or not is another question - but I am willing to bet (and know firsthand) that people will pay for new, original stories/IP if its well enough done by indie creators over big bad corporations, hell thats basically Kickstarter's business model.

I don't think it is hypocritical of people to pay for Disney, even if they don't like what Disney are doing and criticise the stories they are making (paying their money may make them feel like they are entitled to have those views), but not pay fans for stuff that is frankly illegal - even if it is very good and they enjoy watching it.

I personally love that there is fan fiction out there for lots of IP and as for Star Wars there are some great things out there (and some not so great) - but I would never pay for it because it is theft, but since I always assume that stuff is made by folks that love the IP/Stories/Characters and just want to express that via whatever medium they have chosen then no real harm there - in fact, it could be argued that fan fiction helps grow IP/Brands....

So really, if people want to make SW fan stuff because they love it and want to share it, then cool, but as soon as they want financial recompense for it, that is not cool.
