Some of you may follow Farthest From already on Facebook and have seen this, but have added a new album featuring a look back at Star Wars toys at retail in the UK, including the Toy Shop Tours with Vader, Boba Fett or The Command Satellite.

Many of these have been painstakingly collected or donated to projects such as The Palitoy Archive. Feel free to use them yourself, but don't be like those people who ripped off my previous projects, a link or reference back to Farthest From or The Palitoy Archive would always be appreciated ;)

Hi Dave, great pictures, thank you!!!

The last two display pictures looks "Kenner" more than "Palitoy". Maybe used only as display reference.
In these two pictures cardback seems mock-ups (square bottom corners) and shelftalkers read clearly "REVENGE of the JEDI"...

Which previous projects were ripped off???

Anyway, thank you!!!

JC

The first few photos of the kids in costume as Dengar, the sand person and the Ewok was a competition in the ROTJ comic. I still have these issues !

Hi JC,

The last two are Palitoy plannograms. These are suggested display maps by the brand on how to maximize product and shelf presence. They are still used to this day, I had LEGOs 2014 launch range here for example. As these were usually done by marketing in advance of product launch, it is no surprise that Kenner or other product mock-up is used to demonstrate the idea. I have an absolute killer one to add still, which uses a lot of alternate mock ups.

As for projects being ripped off, sadly a lot of the work gets copied or passed off as it's own, which is a slap in the face as I don't think anyone really realizes that there is no other source for the information. The Advert Archive is the most obvious one, where the cost of sourcing some of the commercials was great and then a couple of bright sparks rip individual adverts to youtube. The DVD project has never sold out or broken even, so you can imagine it can be frustrating when a member of the community does something like this and claims it as their own.

Each of the print adverts were also cleaned up and although these can be done by anyone who has the time, a large high res one was emailed for use within a book, was used, by never acknowledged or credited.
I research and work in other toy lines too, but this sort of activity sadly seems more prevalent in Star Wars than any other.

The colour picture of the Fett is the only known colour reference of that particular armour (look at the helmet deco) that one remains watermarked as I know that will spring up in prop discussions, cosplay groups etc, once the other Palitoy plannograms go up, I expect they'll be copied and talked about with reference back too :(

Bingo :)

I went through every UK comic and related newspaper archive article for the Celebration Europe exhibit, scanned in high res and cleaned as best I could (difficult when newsprint is involved) that one wad a breath of fresh air and essay to do :)

Hi Dave,

Yep, Palitoy used a lot of Kenner photographic material as source. Retail catalogues are full of them...
I love all that stuff, i am a paper collector more than toys....

It's a shame respect your DVD project. I know how hard is the work. I saw all the panels you made on the Palitoy Archive and I tried to get one DVD copy at the time with no luck, i never get answer back from you...

Again, thank you,

JC :)

Dave, that Fett helmet has been well documented for many years now. The Star wars Chronicles book has many nice photos of it.

Although they look similar, they're not, I'm referring to the outfit in question that was created for Palitoy Toy Shop appearances, not the pre-production costumes for the films.

Hi Juan Carlos, would the information on the DVD get any eventual credit if the book was published? ;)

All the best,
Dave

The costume used to promote in the UK was put together using different pre-production items. That helmet is referred to as PP1 (Pre-Production helmet #1) in Fett costuming circles and the chest armour is one of three that was used for touring. There are six suits in total and if you didn't already know the Kenner card back uses the helmet that would eventually be used in ROTJ and one of the earliest pre-production suits.

It was quite normal back then to use a combination of screen used costumes and pre-production items to visit stores. The Vader costume used in the early days of the US tour was the actual screen used suit. The Vader suit used in your facebook photos is one of the many touring suits created by LFL. But LFL used the original production helmet to cast new ones.

Very cool info :)
They did the same with the Stormtrooper too. Members of Marketing dressed up as characters, with the exception of Vader who was a hired actor due to height and no employee was tall enough :)
Think you may have misinterpreted the picture though, its the only colour one known for the UK tour, not relating to the films, but if not, please let me know as always love to see new info to pass the info to those at LFL who have this as the only documented one :)

Anyone dig the alternate box art on the new pics?

Dave

That they have, but think we're starting to go round in circles with respect to this image.

I do think that is a killer black and white portrait picture they have there though ;)
