I was just reading the thread about Helix which led me on to a conversation I have had recently with a chap who worked for Letraset.

As a result of curating May The Toys Be With You in Canterbury a local gentleman who had visited the exhibition left his number at the museum for me. He worked for a design company in Herne Bay many years ago which produced the packaging and point of sale for Letraset on the vintage Star Wars line (Letraset were in Ashford, also in Kent).

He made it clear that he doesn't have any artwork or pre-production stuff from the era, so this isn't about a 'find', but I know that we have members who interview for the podcast and others who write and if someone wanted to contact him for those reasons then let me know as the chap might be willing to share his knowledge and stories from that time.

I used to collect from the Letraset office in London Waterloo in 1984 for the printing company I used to work for....bet there was loads of this stuff there and all I would have had to do was ask for it as the manager kept asking if I wanted any free stuff but all I saw was the standard sheets of lettering!

I'm starting a fun competition, hopefully there will be more than one entry,

Let's see those Letrasets. Entries will be judged on 4 merits:- Composition, Neatness, Accuracy and something I call Starwarsiness.

First up...

Submitter:- mr_palitoy
Artist (if known):- mr_palitoy
Year of work:- 1978?

Comments on overall work are welcome too.

Mr Palitoy's artwork exhibits a fundamentally instinctual understanding of the supposition between equilibrium and the bon chance beauty of chaos. An exquisitely tender textural subtext that renders pencil strokes into vivid form upon the arranged players within a grandiose opera to rival the melancholic opulence of Wagner interlaced with the vim and exuberance of Handel.

In short, it will take some beating.
