"When lifelong Star Wars fan Gordon Deacon lost his battle last month with cancer, his wife Marilyn decided to send him off in style: with an escort of stormtroopers.

They marched ahead of the horse-drawn funeral carriage today as it made its way to St. Margaret's Church in Roath, Cardiff, in Wales. Gordon, 58, was also a fan of the Liverpool Football Club, so the horses were adorned with red feathers and the coffin with a Liverpool and "Star Wars floral tribute." Even the mourners were asked to wear red or Star Wars costumes.

"We used to go to shows and he had a signed photograph of bounty hunter Boba Fett on the wall," Marilyn told ITV News. "He had Star Wars lightsabers, figurines, cookie jars, the lot. My husband didn't want people to wear black, his wish was to have a different funeral. People can either wear Star Wars costumes, but not Darth Vader. I think he would be over the moon about the theme of his funeral."

Awesome send off. Poor **** all the same. I class 58 as young these days. Peace to all.

It's both surreal (seeing Stormtroopers stood outside a church) and very touching at the same time.

Didn't know the guy ,but seeing this has made me quite emotional ,a beautiful way to go for a obviously verry well loved fella .

Very sad but also brilliant... I really appreciate the effort and thought of a funeral that people have clearly taken the time to think what the deceased and congregation would really want to see and in part help to celebrate the life of the individual.

My father entered the church for his funeral to "I'll play the Blues for You" by Albert King. My Father was a DJ on local BBC radio (Midlands; Stoke, Shropshire, WM etc.) and had a show playing a host of old collectable vinyl including the Blues, Soul, Northern Soul, Rock etc. etc. It made a lot of people smile at my choice of tune!

Another good example was my friend Jon, he entered his service to God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols... he was a homosexual Punk... wish I'd chosen that track for him!

Really sad, I struggle with these sort of stories, it's so sad.

Great send off though.
