Spammers

I was actually thinking about that today Gary.

I was thinking of it more from the angle of deleting the accounts of those who have spammed us and been banned.

Could agree more with this. This is has worked realy well on other forums too 8)

Not entirely certain it makes the site look good though when nearly half the members never post/visit.

I think it might be an idea to delete accounts that haven't been used in say a year. Don't see the need to keep them. I know my TIG account was deleted after i hadn't signed in there for 6 months or so.

It does say when people have visited recently, so be easy to work out who joined years ago but never been back

Yeah exactly. So members don't have to post if they don't want to but they do have to visit. 100s of dead accounts sitting there that need to be deleted i reckon.

Forum accounts (and people) are funny things, some people post loads, some people lurk and do their talking in private and some people sign up never post then vanish..

I wouldn't think it would be the best idea to delete accounts/members if they just haven't posted recently but had posted "something" at some point as they may well come back to find they don't exist and deleting old posts and users isn't something that sits well with me, it's like erasing history. (We only do that to certain special members like Karen :) )

Honestly the few hundred useless accounts on SWF don't particularly bother me as a member/moderator, they may be expendable but they aren't actually hindering the way I use the board in any way.

What about users who have never posted and have never used their account and haven't visited in 1 year?
Bare in mind an email would be sent to these member warning them that their account is about to be deleted if it is not used in the next week (or whatever) as it was me when i stopped using TIG (and several other forums to be fair). It's fairly common practice.

I think that would be the only way to go really if it was to be done, perhaps we could do a test run with zero post accounts with no activity within the last 2 years just to be sure ;)

An email notification would be a must as well.

Wonder what Edd's thoughts are?

I'm sure that's what was agreed years ago.

0 posts, no visits, sent a polite warning pm

I think the topic came up due to the amount of space this non-used accounts wasted.

I may of course just be imaging it. :?

I don't see a problem in doing that. Chances are they have joined and forgotten we existed or decided SW/forums aren't for them. If they reply to the email then fair eough, my money is on 99% not replying though.

Edd's call at the emd of the day, it'll be him doing the donkey work, us Mods can't, to the best of my knowledge.
