Some amazing behind the scenes SW models!

I've seen some of them in books but not all, thanks for posting this up. The detail and paint job on them is amazing and that five foot Falcon is the nuts! Great reference material for modellers :D

8) shame the Rebel Transporter toy didn't match up to the model like most of the others.

Those ILM model makers really went for it back then and I think because of this and the design these things still look amazing today and haven't really ever been equaled in my opinion.

Great pics Ian, thanks for sharing.

For some strange reason I think my fav pic was the Scout Walkers mossy foot

Did many of these models end up in the hands of collectors or are they just hanging around Skywalker Ranch?

...it would be great to see some of them get used in Ep7.

Great stuff, lots of pics i hadn't seen before, the tie interceptor looks hellova close to the actual Kenner toy for detail. Wolff's sailbarge project could easily feature here and we'd be none the wiser!

Thanks for posting this Ian

Some amazing detailed work went into these, amazing pieces, absolutely love The Falcon 8)

Yes how good would that be if they used some in E7

Nice to see these pics although it's a shame there was so much CG used after Ep 1. I have a book on the sets and models used for all 6 films anf there's definitely a lack of physical sets/props and models after Ep 1. I know a few of the people who worked on Jedi and the prequels but they unfortunately didn't manage to bag anything......well that's what they tell me!

I think most of them are in the Lucasfilm archives at Skywalker Ranch, I've seen a video tour of it. Although I'm sure some have escaped into private collections.

I don't know they still made a lot of sets, props, models and practical effects, they just did them all separately and then used a computer to put them altogether. ROTS is supposed to have built the most sets out of all the Star Wars films.

Still they made loads for them:

Doesn't make up for the fact that the stories were too weak, some acting naff and some of the lines crap.

Yup, the big hole used on Utapah was created as a scale model with an exact CGI version made to cover all options, some great action scenes came out of it.

Some more great pics and although there is still set work ect for the prequels I think making those films so post heavy took away the feel of the original trilogy. It must have been hard for the actors to have performed with more and more blue screens appearing. Also comping the actors into miniatures doesn't always work although it's a better way to go than having a 100% CG environment.

The end of the day the lines getting blurred between practical and digital effects but it looks like JJ has at least gone back to actors having something to act off of judging by the pictures we've already seen. I never did understood why George said he didn't want to build one practical clone trooper, it just doesn't make sense to me.

Not surprised really, imagine having some of these in your collection. Awesome
