Hey,

I've just tried to send money as a gift, but it seems this option is not available for Germany. I even tried google and everyone is complaining.

Any tipps for me how I can pay the PP fee myself? The "I will pay the fee" option is also not available for Germans it seems ... :-/

Regards,
Dennis

Hi mate,

The last i knew was that you cannot send a pp gift from germany. the easiest way to pay the pp fees is to add 4%(ish) to your total payment and do it that way. You can see how much the seller will recieve before clicking the pay button so if 4% is a little out you can go back and adjust a little.

Hope this helps 8)

Thanx, I was afraid to get this answer.

Next time I will check if I can see what the seller receives, but I'm pretty sure that I wasn't able to see it. But next time I will add 4% and inform the seller up front.

I think it has to be "gift" to select "pay fees yourself. What i would suggest if that option is locked is to calculate the 4% charge and send the extra amount with it so the person receives the correct amount. If that makes sense.
So if you are sending someone £100 as "gift" and paying the £4 fee. Send £104 as "good" or whatever. That way the person still receives the same amount.

There's a helpful tool on the internet called Paypal Fee Calculator. It's here:

http://ppcalc.com/

You can also do a normal IBAN/BIC bank transfer to a British bank account, did you know that? Shouldn't cost you anything but it will probably take around 4 days to arrive.

But still then the receiver has to pay 4% fee for the £104, so it still won't be the full ammount of money he receives. Still it is an option to add 4% and a little extra to have it covered.

Will try this next time, maybe this covers the problem I have described above!

Will keep this in mind. Thanx! :)

I knew that you couldn't send a paypal gift from Germany but i didn't know that there was no option for a german buyer to pay the fees until today. You learn something new everyday!

Yes he pays 4% of the 104 which you have added. Meaning he still gets his 100. As i stated (in the imagined scenario) you are trying to pay him 100. You send 104 because he will be charged 4% that way he still received 100.

Use the paypal fee calculator I linked you to mate. You can calculate the exact amount you have to send for him to receive £100 (or any other amount).

No! ;) He will receive £99.84. ;) 4% of £104 is £4.16!

But I think the ppcalc.com-website Capetown suggested does a good job! :)

It does. :D I'm moving this thread to the Vintage Chat forum by the way as it isn't really a FS thread.

Ok yes but you get the general idea... finally

I sent a payment to a German seller just the other day and selected personal, then payment owed instead of gift and neither of us suffered a fee. As long as you don't use a credit card, it should work just like a gift payment. Hopefully it would work in reverse.

Hope that helps.
