SEALED FIGURE FROM 70s/80s FOUND IN PARENTS LOFT

Hi All,
I can't remember the year but am guessing the following happened between 79 and 83 when I was between 6 and 10 years old. I collected the Star Wars figures as most kids of my age did, I remember collecting something from the card backs, something that you had to cut out and send off for another free figure, I remember sending them off and asking for a specific figure (can't remember which one but it was a hard one to find).

A month or two later I got the box seen in the photos below through the post from the action figure company (company name anyone?), inside was however not the one I requested but a 'Dengar'. I was a little disappointed as I already had a Dengar, I therefore decided to not open it and kept it years, it found its way into my parents loft and has just been retrieved when I took back a load of stuff to put in my own loft.

The box is a little aged and yellow in places, the figure is absolute mint, as is the bag, the bag just states in blue lettering "MADE IN HONG KONG". The bag has probably only seen the light of day a few times!!

Does anyone know if this is worth anything?, I really don’t want to sell as I've had in for around 25-30yrs now, but am very interested in knowing what it is worth in mint, unopened, un-played with condition?

Also, are there many of these around that were sent out, I guess it was quite rare?, especially ones that never got opened?

Thanks for your help and comments in advance.

Hi Ken

Welcome to the boards

The toy company was Palitoy and your Dengar is probably worth about £10 - £20.

There are a few of these mailers still around, but its a nice find :)

Thanks for that, appreciate the reply. So are you saying I cant retire off the back of this item.....lol

You would have thought being unopened for 25 years+ it would be worth more, I guess they were made in their millions though.

Thanks again
K

Very cool that its a Palitoy mailer.
Is/was there any paperwork included, like the bounty hunter capture log
or advert for other mail away items?

I reckon its worth more like £30 because its Palitoy.

I think Marc is about right on that, the palitoy adds a small premium to it. You would be suprised how many hundreds of thousands of figures still unopened on the card and in unopened baggies. Its suprising how many kids didnt open stuff and how much stuff was left unsold.

If it had the paperwork

Im 99.9% sure there was never any paperwork, the item only just fits into the box, its pretty snug, there would have been no room for any paperwork.

How come none of my stuff survived in such good condition!?
Everything I had ended up getting ruined and or broken inside about 3 days!

I'm sure many didn't come with paperwork, but a lot of the mailers had a catalogue or offer leaflet which folded around the baggie in the box - they were a tight fit :)

Like this Kenner Bossk

Bossk mailer

Best way of finding its true value is to stick it on ebay

I guess it was possible there was a flyer in the box, unfortunately it was a while back and I was around 6 years old, it's amazing i kept it the way it is!!

By the way, anyone know what year this would have been?

Very nice. IMO the fact it has your name on the front makes it priceless 8) I bet not many collectors can claim that.
