I just read this horrible story about vandals wantonly destroying thousands of pounds, and many years' worth of model railway collections in Stamford, Linconshire:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-48326572

A model railway club had set up an exhibition in a school sports hall ready for a viewing which would have taken place today, but instead 4 assholes broke in and literally smashed the exhibit to pieces, destroying as much as they could in an act of pure, mindless vandalism. Police have arrested four 'youths' on suspicion of burglary and criminal damage, but knowing our justice system, if they're underage they'll be let off without any punishment at all, and if by some miracle they are over 18, they'll only receive a token slap on the wrist, whilst the owners of the property they destroyed are left without their prized possessions and the work of a lifetime.

It may not be vintage Star Wars, but it still sends a shudder down my spine. Imagine being kind and generous enough to share your collection with the world, only to have it trashed by some pea-brained thugs so stupid it's a wonder they can walk and breathe at the same time.

My lad showed me the story, it's sickening that these youths would even consider doing this to decent people.

The law is a joke as well, smack on the wrist then off to brag to their mates in the evening.

That's the state of our country I'm afraid, no respect from a select feral kids and it's getting worse.

I too saw this on FB this morning, sickening.
I'm really not sure what the answer is, but this total disregard and disrespect has got to be stopped!

That is utterly sickening.
If those boys had been born at the same time as us they'd probably collect Star Wars so it feels extremely personal.
Does anyone know where the fundraiser is?

****ing little bastards no respect for no one or anything. Agree with the be a smack on wrist and tomorrow the twats will be taking the piss and laughing about it.

I was just about to post this, really sad to see. This could so easily happen to a Star Wars event.

Indeed it could, feel so so sorry for all the people affected by these twats. The love and passion that goes into the collecting a setting up these wonderful displays is the same we have for Star Wars. :(

Rod Stewart caught wind of this in the national press. Turns out he is a massive model railway enthusiast and has his own model that he built up over 20 years.

He has pledged £10k to help them out.

Wow thanks for sharing that's very kind of him. Think James May and Pete Waterman are massive train fans as well.

Thankfully, their are still some very thoughtful people in this world :D

That's a terrific development! I still hope the idiots responsible get properly punished, but it's good to hear that the victims will receive some help and compensation for their losses.

The sad thing about this story is all the hours that went in to the models, while there are expensive and irreplaceable Star Wars items, not many were actually crafted by their owners. That's got to hurt more than the money.

The other thing money can't buy is the time some of these guys have put into their layouts.
I guess, and it's only a guess, that most of the builders of these layouts are in their 50s 60s and even older, some of these people will not have enough time left to re build what has ben taken away, that's the really sad part of this.
A sad sad story of Modern Britain.
