During my day I listen to a **** load of star wars podcasts, something that really did get my attention was Rebel Force Radio's commentary of Return of the Jedi. I have to say after listening to the podcast and hearing Sam Witwer's deep appreciation of the film my opinion has changed somewhat. I urge every star wars fan to listen to it whilst watching the film again.
One thought that got thrown out there was the evolution of the Jedi through the actions of Luke Skywalker. It never really occurred to me before that the Jedi who were portrayed as a rather self flagellating bunch in the prequels, were moved on by Luke Skywalker. Luke is quite an aggressive forthright jedi who barges his way into jabbas palace, kills a load of beings all to rescue a couple of mates. Bit harsh really if you think about it. After all, Han solo owed Jabba loads of cash, do jedi not understand commerce?? { There's a few ebay buyers I'd like to freeze in carbonite and hang on my wall...} its quite a selfish activity albeit Luke may have foreseen that he needs Leia, Han, Lando, Chewie in one piece to overthrow the Empire.
so as roti progresses, ben kenobi appears as a rather involving ghost with his environment, whereas in star wars he's merely an echo, a voice. in jedi he's moving through woodland. Kenobi and Yoda were upholders of the old jedi order which has no place ongoing. Yoda failed the jedi because he never moved the order forward.
so are these developments a combination of the dark and light side of the force conjoining. The balance to the force Anakin Skywalker was supposed to bring actually occurred in roti and that will set the premise for the next three films.
