I'm trying to sort out my loose figures, and am a bit confused about the rebel blasters. I've had a look at the TIG guide, and saw this picture:

Mine all seem to be either blue/black or just black, but I honestly can't tell the difference. Holding up to light doesn't help. Is there a foolproof way of differentiating the later black one (that apparently only came with Han Trench) from the earlier blue/black ones? I have various figures they could go with so want to put them with the right ones.

Also, am I right in thinking that Luke Bespin only came with blasters that were quite obviously blue, so not blue/black?

I'm missing a blaster for Han Pin Head so been looking at TIG and there is also a thread on here somewhere where AJ confirmed the below.
But the blue black are hard to distinguish in some cases they look black ( especially to old git eyes like mine)

Blue blaster came with Luke bespin ( Han hoth as well)

Black
Han Solo Trenchcoat

Blue/Black

Han Solo
Greedo
Luke X Wing
Snag

You will know the difference with the black one Ed, it's completely jet black. I think the ones referred to as blue/black are a very dark blue. The ones to the left and right on this picture look blue/black to me. The ones in the middle are the blue one and I believe it only officially came with Luke Bespin. I think there are slightly different shades/versions of the blue/black ones, some are darker which might be what's causing the confusion. I certainly have a couple that look almost black and others that are slightly lighter.

Edit: sorry, Mike is absolutely right, blue came with Han Hoth too!

I've found the best way to differentiate the black from the blue/black (this applies to Imperial blasters too), is to use a bright white LED light. Preferably from a flashlight, as then you can lay the blaster directly on the light. Look at the thinnest part on the accessory. You'll see faint light passing through, and the colour will be highlighted. If it's a blue/black, the illuminated part will be an obvious shade of blue.

Both the Blue/Black Rebel and Stormtrooper Blasters can look very dark in normal light - as Ian says - if you shine a light through them you can tell the blue tint - it is also obvious when you hold a blue/black and a jet black side by side

Mike is right as well - the light blue only came with Han Hoth and Luke Bespin

Of the ones you have in the picture, the middle three count as Blue and the outer 2 on each side are blue/black - just different versions

Thanks guys, will try the torch trick when I get home :)

Sorted, I used my iPhone's LED torch and yes I could see a slight blue outline to both blasters so they are blue/black. So if anybody has any blue and black ones going spare, let me know :)

Regards to the pin head Han as he was an early figure you'll find some came with the translucent blaster blue/green.

I may be wrong
