I was just thinking today about a scam that happened a while ago. Basically someone was selling an R2 D2 pop up with genuine saber and when they received it they claimed the saber was not real. Obviously with the prices sky rocketing lately, ive got a bad feeling that things are going to happen again. Maybe it is only safe to buy a graded loose, or MOSC example or even get it from someone you trust. We all know that this is probably the rarest figure to find ( with real saber ) and Yakface has nothing on it.

What do you think guys? Opinions?

And what happened then with the buyer? They didn't return it or something or swapped for a repro and returned?

I would have their address and would travel the length and breadth of the country to wreak my revenge!

My approach is bombproof and guarantees zero chance of getting ripped off

Only collected the original 77 but because R2 is my fav character I thought I would make an exception and add him to my figures

I have now decided my 12 year old self was right back in the day - he is a stupid figure with a ridiculous looking saber and I don't want him and anyone that buys/collects/displays him is a stupid poopy pants

Proper collectors only have 77 figures :D

I've said this to newbie collectors in the past - when buying on ebay always check that what you receive is exactly what was pictured on the listing. It's the oldest scam in the book. Often when I'm buying something if it doesn't say you will get exactly what's pictured I will just ask, to make sure. I fell foul to it with a Leia original, they photographed/listed original cape and gun, then sent me repro

These people are just massive thieving arseholes with no morals whatsoever. I think people will defo do it with pop up R2's because there's a lot of £ to be made ripping people off. It gets on my tits but it will always go on. Someone else did a thread about constantly getting sent wrong and repro blasters with Luke stormtroopers.

I do remember at the time not buying this figure from the shop as I thought it was just a rip off when I already owned the sensorscope version.

I also remember finding it hard to part with the cash for a Jawa as it was such a small figure for the money
and yes I'm still tight

Ya know what, thats similar for me. I do have a full set, but i look at the last 17 and have zero connection with them at all. I think its the completeist in me, but in reality they dont mean much.

Yellow stickered loose examples have been selling for £170+ and some-way off mint MOCs have been seen to go as high as £700, although that has to be a one-off.

Absolute madness. Can't figure out the sudden surge of interest in this figure. I've settled for a peeled "New Figure" sticker MOC and for what I paid I'm happy enough. Just need to figure how to get the remains of the sticker off :/
