r2 d2 pop up lightsabre

Excuse my ignorance. I have an r2 d2 which has the pop up lightsabre (repro sabre, but looking for original). My limited knowledge, I thought this would be last 17 therefore date stamped 85 , however it is lfl 77.
Am I being stupid :roll:

Looks like to me they used the same mold from the original R2. Just added the pop up saber to it. Same is used on the R2 with sensor scope and that came out on esb 1980-1982

June has it spot on. Although the R2 was updated twice, the date stamp is still 1977 whichever version

The same thing also applies to every figure, they all have the original date they where first released with even when they appear on latter cards, I think the only time this changes through the hole line is with Barada which also has an 1984 stamp and theres also a Ledy R2 that has 1978

The Droids R2 & C3PO are the only other exceptions to the rule I can think of ( & R5D4 )
