Need to pick the brains of any computer experts out there.
Currently having a few major problems with my PC. For some reason the ****er won't load. Everytime I try and start it up I get to the sign in/power on/password screen enter my details (all correct) and then after a few seconds I get some ****ing blue screen with white writting going on about how there is a problem with Windows and my computer has closed down to save itself from damage.

I've virus checked my computer about 6 times (it will load in "safe mode", that's how I'm online now) and found nothing, I assume if there is a virus my software isn't detecting it. I've deleted anything I downloaded in the last few days and still no joy.

Any ideas?

Save me from having to carry this ****er down to the computer repair shop, me car is stuck at the folks house and the computer shop is ****in miles away!

Have you done a virus scan in safemode????? That will sometimes find it. If not you may have to use system restore to restore it to an earlier date prior to this shite invading your computer.

Where is Plantfucker? He is Borg.

Same thing was happening to me the other day Weas. I removed my virus program and installed it again. It was like it was stuck trying to do an update or something...kept saying I had to restart my computer to finished the update and then it would do just what you are saying. After I removed the program and reloaded and re updated it...it has worked fine since.

I ain't a computers arsehole, I am afraid...Just an arsehole:) So don't know if that will help your cause or not, or even make it worse

Yeah i had 2 PCs. Both of which ran slow and were problematic from day one. One developed a near fatal problem the week i got it due to Norton (side note: never install Norton on your pc!) had to be completely rebooted. Both succumbed to viruses in the end and were write offs. Binned within 2 years of purchase! And every second of owning them was a nightmare. 800 quid wasted i should have spent on a Mac. So 3rd try i saved a little harder and bought a mac. Best thing i ever did. Runs fast, much simpler to use and cannot get infected with viruses. No need to run virus software or scans at any point. I actually foget computers get viruses now until i hear one of these stories *about once every couple of months from someone!) Only wish i'd bought a mac in the first place. Would have saved myself a lot of money and stress.

and no... i don't work for Mac.

I got a macbook pro a few months ago. It's great. Macs can get virsuses but they are much less common and a lot of people run them without virus scanners (including me). I don't think there any any decent free ones yet, I'd use avast if I was going to pay money for one.

Doesnt sound like a virus to me mate, sounds like corrupt system files

Does it boot up in safe mode ok?

try a disk check, right click on c: drive - properties - tools - error checking (if you can get into safe mode)

you can also try tapping f8 as your computer is booting up and try "last known good configuration" option

if you have the installation cd for windows you can use that to boot up and run the disk check, or do a full windows repair on your system, but its advisable to back it all up before a full repair

The only reason macs dont have as high virus and hacking rating is because they only hold about 2-3% of the computer market.

All/most buisnises and home users have windows environment so they are the target for theives and hackers, so there isnt really any point in creating spam, viruses ect for such a small amount of macs that are in use.

I dont defend windows though, Vista and 7 are utter shite and merely a money spinning scam XP and server 2003 are still widely used and could have just been improved.

This story sounds VERY familiar to me Pete. That Norton Anti virus ****, really does ****en suck  Your story is almost identical to my own...Except the part where you bought a MAC. I think that is where I will be going next.

Yeah Norton is ridiculous. I didn't know what i was doing when i first got a pc so i installed it./ BIG mistake. It's akin to installing a virus on your computer (ironically). My mate di the same. Bought a 600 quid pc installed Norton and it hasn't worked properlly since. Takes about 4 minutes just to get on line. Macs cost a little more (tho not wcompared to buying 2 pcs and having to bin them). In the long run you'll save money and a hell of a lot of stress.

M$ know this and thats why they are pulling the plug on XP and 2003 to force everyone to upgrade. A truly awful money grabbing company that deserves nothing other than complete contempt.

Weasel you could have anything from a virus to a defunct driver thats causing the pc to not boot. Best thing to do is to try and back up your important documents and then do a complete reinstall of windows.

Im still allowed to downgrade when i buy a new PC or server, but for how long i dont know.

You cant actually buy server 2003 from most resellers, they sell 2008 with a downgrade option.

you can force a company to upgrade all its systems, some still have server 2000, but it will be phased out as no computers will be sold with XP and thats it.

Weaz should try a repair install first to at least recover his data, you can always pop the drive in a caddy or another PC to browse the data.

I've been told by a M$ developer that they are very keen to kill off server 2003 and XP as its not getting them the revenue they want anymore. It would of happened sooner but the almighty cock up that was Vista meant it was all delayed.

All they will do is switch off the support for XP and 2003 so if your company relies on the software you won't have support and most risk policies won't allow that, so they will have to upgrade. Its a simple idea but spins a lot of money.

it will happen, but it will be a long phase out, as companies will refuse the cost to upgrade.

and dell machines XP disks are universal so they work on any system.

But win 7 has its benefits and eventually as old hardware gets upgraded you will naturally go with the flow

we have an MS agreement so our liceses are cheap anyway.
