Question for DIY experts !!

Enough of all the porn, toy jacking and arguing I have (another) boring question to ask !! :lol:

Having zero DIY knowledge can someone tell me what causes cracks like these at the top of my walls near my ceilings: :? :x

Most of my house is wallpapered as I prefer to see that instead of painted plaster (sorry Jabba :wink: ) but when I had it decorated 5 years ago I didn't paper this one (the spare bedroom). The cracks were filled in and painted over but they are back again and it annoys me!! :evil:

The house is 22 years old so 2 of the 4 walls are plasterboard and not brick if that makes any difference? The cracks aren't all the way around the room, maybe 65% of it and I plan to tidy the room up later in the year and use it more than just having it to hide junk so before I think about getting a decorator in to paper it I need to know why it happens and can it be prevented from happening again? :?

dont really know but might be where the plasters not sticking to the sreed tape as well :?

It might be the house settling a bit or just temperature changes. Just use a bit of decorators caulk to fill in the cracks, sand it back and repaint, it stays flexible so you shouldn't have the problem again

is that wall plaster boarded .if they have boarded it and not taped between board and ceiling you get that but it seems to far in .or if they have skimmed over a crack it will keep coming back.like darth says you some filler thats flexible .

Is he really a theology teacher? Isn't that one of those subjects that they make you teach something else as well because it's not a "proper" subject. Like PE teachers.

What do you teach?

dont say that! he is head of his subject! dont class him the same as a p.e. teacher, they really are the lowest of the low!

i am a trained business studies teacher but teach ICT as its a piece of piss, except for getting coursework out of lazy 16 year olds that would rather shag little irish fellas! :wink: :lol:

That wall is plaster boarded, on the other side of it is the landing and bathroom but it also affects the brick walls although to a lesser extent. The decorator did fill in the cracks and painted over them which "cured" the problem but it soon came back again. :x

I'm sure cowboys built the house anyway but in a few months I'll see if I can get a cheap Polish decorator who likes wallpapering to cover them up !! 8)

Interesting story in the news recently about the relative difficulty/value of different courses. Easiest/most useless were things like sociology and literature which were described euphemistically as something like "non-critical writing about personal opinions or aesthetics". (or shite as the less literary inclined of us call them)

Hardest were the science subjects and top of that list was Chemistry. (smug smiley needed)
