The most wrong anyone has ever been. And the good money's on that being this writer's first and last achievement in life. Unbelievable.

Saw that on your Facebook page. Did make me laugh. Surely anyone who writes **** like that should be locked up for their own good!?

While I am not a prequel fan or a modern collector based off of the prequels I think they have their place and hear me out as to why...

The prequels while an attempt to tie the story of SW together were also a money earner..now..if the aim is to make money who is the ideal audience to aim those movies at?

The 30-40 something age range that will watch it once and maybe buy it on DVD or the youth of today that will want to watch it over and over and buy each and every toy or other related item they can get their hands on for many more years to come? IF it had been a trio of dark/cult movies they would have had their fanboys raving about how cool it was for a few years but that's about it..

SW is a money machine and the prequels were mostly aimed at a younger audience, I think those with kids here that may have taken their young ones to see the prequels at the cinema will vouch for the fact that they probably loved it..and Jar Jar even if for the rest of us he is the most obscene thing to ever happen to Star Wars - times change! I am sure when our parents saw Ewoks and people fighting with glowing sticks in the 80's they thought "what a bunch of tat!"

All in all, the prequels helped Star Wars rumble along like a gigantic Sandcrawler hoovering up money in the dunes of Hollywood and increased interest in this hobby and Star Wars in general because of the prequels and all the rest of the gumpf that came along with it (however much us old grumps want to moan about it) so it's really not a bad thing.

Do I think the prequels are better than the OT? NOOOOOOOOOOOO! But hey- I really loved the period leading up to the Phantom Menace it was a very exciting time for Star Wars and it really was great to see people chucking lightsabers around on the big screen again even if I didn't really think the film was much cop - Darth Maul was pretty awesome, Christopher Lee is always awesome and Yoda kicking ass was hysterical!

POTF2 brought me back to Vintage as well - the interest in POTF2 toys got me back to my roots and for that I am pretty grateful and like me there are a load of collectors that got the collecting bug through modern and then turned to vintage. It's all good!

I still think modern is a pile of **** NOW and I wouldn't buy any but it definitely has it's place, as for the movies, I will still continue to Jar Jar bash but honestly anything Star Wars is all good in my book ;)

Good films would have made money too. The prequels are rubbish in every way.
I've gone back and watched films like E.T, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future etc, blockbusters from when i was a kid. All written for and aimed at a young audience and still remain brilliant films. The story ideas are inspired, the scripts brilliant and the lead characters and actors are defined, charming, timeless and unforgettable. There's no excuse. The Star Wars prequels are indefensible. The ideas from the off, before the camera even starts rolling are not good enough. Half arsed and half cocked and flimsy in structure. The dialogue is some of the dullest and most excruciatingly difficult to watch and (even as an adult) understand in the history of film and the plot, especially in the first film, is so ridiculously, overly complex that even the most die-hard Star Wars fan struggles to make head nor tale of what exactly the **** is going on and even if you did understand what the **** was going on... well, how on earth could you care with such badly written, paper thin, utterly charmless characters so badly cast and hap-harzardly put together, with some of the most difficult to swallow dialogue ever put to film they make Mark Hamill look like he should have won an Oscar for his completely basic portrayal of Luke.
For me, there is very little good to be said for any of the prequels though they survive, even with me, because they are "Star Wars" and we all "can't get enough of Star Wars" even when buried in a mound of feces and thrown directly into our eyes... put any other name on those films and they would have gone the way of Battlefield Earth or Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Deservedly forgotten forever and banished to the books of history's most poorly conceived and badly executed movies.

I don't think there will be a 'Legacy of The Phantom Menace' documentary in 30 years.

If it wasn't for the orginals, the world would have moved on by now.

The run up to Episode 1 was one of the most happy and exciting times of my life. Just imagine if it was as good as the orginals. :D

My kids were bored thru episode 2 & 3 (Love scenes and the ****ing senate). They seem to be ok with Episode one for some reason. The big problem is the old films were simple and full of action (In exception to the yoda death scene in Jedi) and the new ones are totally opposite. The old movies had better acting and the plot did not drag on for what seems like days but is actually only a couple hours. I agree with Pete...slap another name on it and it would have went straight to DVD :D

Yes it was exciting right up until the appearance of Jar Jar.

Seconded.

As its been said. The prequels were designed to capture a new (younger) audience. Its obvious to us vintage veterans that Vintage is the only choice and there is NO comparison between the older and newer films. 8)

3 things I liked about the prequels, Darth Mauls appearance in the hangar, Yoda kicking ass, and Anakin turning to the darkside killing younglings... 8)

Kids today have less of an attention span than we did. If the goal was to hook them, I do not think it was achieved by long boring sequences, love stories, senate debates and very little action.

Do you remember the buzz in the years before the prequels?
Doesn't this remind you that?
http://io9.com/5671581/george-lucas-reported-creating-new-star-wars-sequel-trilogy-thats-not-about-the-skywalkers

Been a lot of rumors about both the new tv-show and a new trilogy lately, and Lucasfilm denying the prequels being made in the early 90's,
we might be in for a new hype....

Your probably right bud. One thing tho that the prequels did for myself was relight my fire for the old Vintage stuff again because before that point I thought Star Wars was dead and buried. 8)

I will say that episode 3 joined the new to the old. Vader throwing a baby tantrum was stupid.....but it did give some linkage. Sometime I wish they would have done three movies after jedi. I know all the actors are older, but if Harrison can still play Indiana Jones..........I guess Han is not a leap.

i disagree ..............because the oldens are favourite for us cause we grew up with em and got the toys etc etc .my lad watchs the prequels alot and i think if i was a kid i prob would enjoy em more ,andthe more i watch em the more i warm to em .dont get me wrong if i had to vote it would be vintage but i can quite happily sit down and watch the new movies
