PL 2015-16 Chat

For ****'s sake, every time somebody does one of those stupid "stutter" penalties you just KNOW they're going to miss. I'd love to know what the success rate of them is, must be about 10%. Feel sorry for 'Pool losing on penalties, but that was some first class goal keeping and some no class penalty taking.

I feel so sorry for Arsenal fans, it's the same **** every year. They get close threaten to do something and then throw it away/fold/choke. Every single year. As the saying goes, it's the hope that kills you.

I think the problem is most Arsenal fans still think it's 2003. They honestly expect to win the title ever year. The reality is they are a top four side, but not a title winning side, and haven't been for a decade. With only a couple of exceptions, three teams have genuinely threatened at the title during that period - Utd, City and Chelsea.

Expecting your team to win the title in 2016 because of a treble 13 years ago is a bit like Spurs expecting to win the FA Cup every year because it happened 8 times prior to 1991. Great legacy, but ancient history. Wenger is the only shadow left from those glory days.

I don't expect to win the title every year but every year I hope we do. What I also don't expect but constantly hope for is for us to learn from our mistakes and one day be removed from the dictionary as the example for insanity, doing the exact same thing every season and thinking the result will be different

Reminded me of Ronaldo when he scored that penalty against Athletico in the CL Final. He ran off to the corner, whipped his shirt off and celebrated like he'd won the game singled handed. The rest of his team were completely non plussed given it was the last min of the game, Athletico were a man down, hadn't looked like scoring since they went a man down, and that penalty made it 4-1. The old prima donna didn't let that get in his way as he attempted to pinch all the limelight from his team, in a game were he had been anonymous.

This is almost unbelievable....

Theo Walcott's stats from yesterday's game. In 63 minutes he managed no shots, no chances created and six passes completed. He touched the ball 17 times and managed to lose possession on ten occasions. It would be hard to do worse deliberately.

Take a bow son, take a bow!

Right, I'm clearly biased... BUT... is it just me that noticed over the weekend Spurs got zero news mentions or coverage for their win. A win that opened up a three point gap on third place.

All the media were interested in was the Man Utd (predominantly youth/second string) team beating Arsenal; which admittedly played a massive part in the above, but surely they go hand in hand? Furthermore, the Spurs result (for what its worth with ten games to go and a handful of those being very tough games - Arsenal, West Ham, Chelsea and Man Utd), makes them as of Sunday night the closest team to be able to rival Leicester for the league title, yet no goals on Sky news or BBC news on Sunday night.. Man Utd goals all shown on both...

As for the League cup, the penalties were bad, but the goal keeping was still excellent (through out the game) from City. I strongly believe that even poor penalties take a lot to be saved and to stop a number of them is a real sign of skill and more importantly nerve. Be interesting to see what happens between the two teams in the league...

Yeah, overshadowed by Utd v's Arsenal and the worthless cup final. Had one of those two not been on I suspect Spuds would have got more attention. I don't think it'll do Spurs any harm to sail under the radar for a bit longer mind.

I agree, it did cross my mind that the less in-focus they are for as long as possible it will probably help them longer term. Less pressure, less talk of titles more focus on results and each game.

The media (Sky and BBC) are well known for having a favourite few teams; mainly Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal; inherited favouritism to be fair, as they were the dominant trio when the Premier League took mass appeal and ran with it before turning it into the mega money juggernaught it is today. Therefore these teams will always be the main focus. After that every neutral in the land wants Leicester to win... Jeez, I even found myself cheering the last minute goal until my head switched on properly and I realised it kept the gap to us as open as it could be.

You spoke too soon, consider it jinxed

It would be nice to see Leicester or Spurs win the league, just for novelty value if nothing more.

But I do worry that Leicester will fall apart next year. You just know all the "big" clubs will be in trying to poach Vardy/Mahrez and possibly Huth or Schemichel (though I think he's no more than bang average) and I do worry that whoever they get in to replace them won't even come close to hitting the same heights. Then suddenly Leicester nose dive down the table as the extra burden of CL football takes its toll on a very thin squad. That also won't help England's CL Coefficient.

"Five of the Premier League's biggest clubs have reportedly met to discuss a sensational break away from the Champions League."

Do you think it's because none of them are going to qualify for the Champion's League next season

That breakaway champions league would be crap, football would end up like boxing who would be the undisputed champions of Europe?

I can't believe 52% of voters think it's a good idea.

Spurs have got a real chance now and you look at their form it's the best in the league this calendar year. I don't no why but I don't won't Leicester to win the league would much rather Spurs do it. That said I would rather Leicester won it than Arsenal or Man City.

Chelsea only 5 points behind Man Utd, ok we have a game in hand but still.

Next season Arsenal should sack Wenger in January and get Guus Hiddink in, they would probably win the league then.

Get iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! Fantastic performance by the Irons 8) Noble and Obiang absolutely bossed that midfield tonight

Well as I always say it takes luck to win the title, and Leicester certainly got it tonight - who would have put money on Arsenal, City and Spurs all losing? It's going to be a fight to the finish :)

Tonight's results certainly make the game on Saturday all the more important!

I struggle to not scream at times...

Spurs (according to the official match stats and not my opinion)
65.2% possession
74.1% pass completion
64.1% of their time was in the attacking third
71% of defensive tackles won
the only 2 clear cut chances in the game

Clearly based on that lot should have been in control of the game... but...

Lost 0-1

Thank the maker the other lot all lost!

It will be interesting if we can find someone with the ability to hit the broad side of a barn from 20 yards but other than that I am not optimistic, especially with Cech out.

Another Jekyll and hide Liverpool performance, wish it was other way round and we wond the cup tbh but felt good to humiliate them i suppose.

Still think hey need a clear out!

Stats are often misleading... did you watch the game? Only the second time in 13 years that Spurs have gone a half without having a single shot. WHU absolutely bossed the first half and should've gone in at least 2 up. Bilic nailed it tactically. Second half, Spurs had more possession etc and created a couple of chances, but never looked particularly dangerous. WHU created a similar amount of chances to Spurs in the second half, and were happy to drop off a little and surrender possession. Even with Collins and Ogbonna injured, we still looked fairly comfortable. Alli came on and wasn't great. Same with Son. Kane was handled nicely all match by Collins, Ogbonna and Kouyate (who had a blinder).

Spurs didn't play well, but most of that was due to the fact that WHU were set up perfectly, played REALLY well and wanted it more.

How Hodgson can continually ignore Noble is simply beyond me. Against Alli, Mason, Carroll and Dier, he was by far the standout, yet they're all picked for England. If him, Cresswell and Antonio played for Spurs, Arsenal or Man U, they'd be in the England squad for sure.
