I've bought the one he sold before this one for roughly the same price. Looks, smells and feels legit. It's pristine also. Only thing is that it isn't Palitoy, but PBP. That's okay with me.

I've also seen two before on eBay this past year.

There have been several offered over the past year and is the most commonly found Palitoy mini-rig mailer.

Others include MTV-7, ISP-6, AST-5, Speeder Bike, Tripod Laser Cannon, VME & Radar Laser Cannon, all of which are far harder to find.

An ex-Palitoy Marketing Manager told me it was the quickest and easiest way to liquidate old stock without passing it through retail channels (who only wanted the latest product). Profit was still made on the items by adding additional costs required to obtain the item. In the PDT-8's case it was 3 Action Figure name plates + £2.99.

PDT-8 was available as a mailaway during the 1984 direct mail 'Unbeatable Offers For You' promotion.

It was also offered during the same period as an alternative to Out Of Stock Bounty Hunter items, which were normally detailed on letter.

Are there more infos available, any ads of the promotion ?
