Apologies if this has already been asked.

What's the deal with Paypal gift/personal payment?

Do you get charged for sending gifts now?

Just tried it and 30 does appear to be the limit

When did this happen.

And what's the difference between gift and personal payment?

not to sure what the difference between gift and personal payment. But if your buying something just send it £30 at a time

You can, but if its a gift and something goes wrong your screwed. They won`t even look at the claim

Gary, on the pre cert forum we only pay by gift - I have sent over 100 as a gift without charge. They change the rules regularly though..........and did charge for around 4 months .....luckily that stopped though

Right, I've tried doing a gift payment in euros to someone, and there was no fee at all!!

why is this only when I pay in pounds?

I got charged £2.75 on a payment of £50, on Other Payments to the UK.
There is no gift option on my personal payments folder on PayPal...

you are USA based though - maybe it is different when in Europe mate

I get charged too for personal payments, no matter the amount.

The fees differ depending on the funding method.

I dont think there is a fee if you rarely use this service. Possibly once a month or so.

Grant.

Does it make a difference if you have funds in your pay-pal account?

I seem to remember sending a gift when I had funds in and not being charged.

At a later date I'm sure I was charged when sending a gift when the money came from my 'bank' and not pay-pal.

There again it might be nothing to do with it. :D

I normally catch on to most things but the gift thing still baffles me pretty much, I have tried it all, even Jay's step by step on the exact amounts and my findings are :

Doing it in increments : I get charged

Using paypal balance : I get charged

Using bank card : I get charged

Praying for mercy whilst clicking gift : I get charged!!!

Maybe it was free at some point I really can't remember that far back but there is a charge always for me, so I officially claim gift payments are gay !

I just had to send a rather hefty payment for something and my instructions were - Send as a gift so he (the recipient) doesn't get slapped with the fee's... Now I really want what I am paying for so I sucked it up, but I felt like saying - do you realise I get slapped with the fee's and I don't appreciate it???

It's not a huge amount at the end of the day but sometimes its a kick in the teeth, sellers can have you over a barrel when they know you need something and to start pissing around moaning about the gift option might scupper your chances of completing the deal unfortunately :(

****ed if you do, ****ed if you don't!

What pisses me off even more is I have several installments left to pay on said deal and ill probably be expected to "gift" each time

It used to be free to send as a gift. I bought 2 palitoy 20 backs off Darth Wensleydale about 2 year ago. I cant remember there was no fees involded at any end. I think paypal soon noticed that people where doing this and relised they where losing money
