I am having problems with a transaction on ebay.

I paid straight away and normally it clears.

This time it says 'Unclaimed'.

I have contacted the seller and he tells me he "hasn't recieved payment".

I cancelled the transaction and payed again. Same problem.

Paypal states:

Unclaimed
•Payments Sent: A payment may be unclaimed for several reasons:1.The recipient has not signed up to PayPal and has not yet received your payment
2.The recipient has a PayPal Personal account (which cannot receive more than five debit or credit card-funded payments a year)
3.The recipient hasn't accepted the payment
4.The recipient has chosen to individually accept or decline payments from customers who don't have a confirmed postal address.
The money has been deducted from your PayPal account. You can cancel this payment by clicking "Unclaimed" and then "Cancel Payment". After 30 days unclaimed transactions are automatically cancelled.

The ebayer has (11) feedback rating and I have won a bargin off him.

What is the best way to proceed?

This happened to me once last year. The Seller had the wrong email address linked to her Paypal account - it was out by one digit and the payments kept being unclaimed until I asked her to double check her email address linked to her Paypal account account and she then realised her mistake and got it changed.

Just be slightly wary. I had same problem last month. I was then invoiced by seller outwith ebay. Never received item. Claimed money back from pay pal but was a pain in the tits. It was a david howells as seller and pay pal alice howells.

99% chance I would say the email address was wrong. Either he gave you the wrong one due to a typo or you entered it wrong.
It's a common mistake. Go double check.

If you are tying to pay through ebay then the issue is 100% at his end - tell him to check all his paypal details

Having problems here. Gave the guy a step by step guide on how to chaange his email. He said he has. Still doesnt work.

He has given me a 2nd email. If i paypal that for goods and he doesnt send them- can I claim in back?

Yes - think there is even an option where you can select payment for Ebay items and then enter the ebay item number

I had this with Matt Booker of all people! He forgot how to spell his paypal address lol

Anyways, I cancelled it and wanted to resend it and Paypal held the funds for 7 days! Had to wait to resend...

Grant easiest way to tell if he has given you the correct address is when you confirm the payment it should say (insert name here) will receive £5. If it doesn't say his first name then he's given you the wrong e-mail.

Hi Grant,

The same thing happened to me about a month ago. I emailed eBay first and they emailed back to say OK to send as a common mistake people make. Paid for goods and although didn't receive the items got my money back without too much hassle.

Turns out you were all correct.

Important note:

If you have paid for an item on ebay and it is unclaimed, its a strong possibility that the seller has the wrong payment email in paypal.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
