Hi all, I've got a few questions regarding Palitoy X-Wings which I hope some of you can answer! I've always been under the impression that the all the Palitoy X-Wings (SW, ESB & Jedi) were without electronics and had a white body. Looking on eBay (UK) I've found some anomalies, e.g.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-Wars-Vintage-Empire-Strikes-Back-Battle-Damaged-X-Wing-Fighter-/160798047241?pt=UK_ToysGames_ActionFigures_ActionFigures_JN&hash=item25704f7c09

Now this has a grey body, somewhere to put the batteries in but does not have a light in the cone. The picture on the front seems to have the button to activate the light/sound airbrushed out.

Now, here's one with the same box, but the fighter inside is a regular white one without electronics.

So, back in 1980/1/2 if you went to purchase a X-Wing in the UK was it pot luck that you got a grey or a white one, or has the second X-Wing above simply been misboxed (by the seller/previous owner)? Looking at the box there is no mention of electronics on either of them and the instructions don't mention them either (on the side that we can see (only one sided?)).

"#10. UK. Palitoy. 3rd issue. ESB. 'Battle Damaged' X-Wing Fighter. 1980.

Box details: Another Palitoy ESB version is issued, this time the box front changes to the Dagobah 2 photo and the large Palitoy logo changes to a smaller version. A title change sees 'Battle Damaged' added.

**Note** The box front shows a grey variant vehicle that is non-electronic (see the absence of nose light and electronic button compared to the Kenner grey versions). This is the same variant as the Euro Bilogo version (see later entry). It seems likely that this box was packed with both the grey and white non-electronic X-Wings. Mine came with the white non-electronic version.

Toy details: Same as previous Palitoy issues but with 'Battle Damaged' decal sheet included. May have been either white or grey non-electronic."

Slider, the grey X-Wing in your first link does have the blue button, but doesn't have any electronics.

You'll find a lot of info in the link James has provided.

Ahhhh, thanks for that chaps!

I would have been pretty miffed as a kid to get a grey one with space for batteries that didn't actually do anything!

cheers

The first edition ( star wars box ) palitoy x-wing is white all over with a clear canopy and no electronics.

The early second edition ( empire box dagobah scene ) x-wing white all over clear canopy no electronics.

The second edition later ( empire box battle damaged and stickers ) x-wing grey with black engines and black canopy no electronics.

The third edition jedi ( battle damage and stickers ) x-wing grey with black engines and black canopy no electronics.

hope this helps?
