so i made an offer to someone for a item outside of ebay, they have closed the auction early and is now mine. whats the best way of dealing with thistransaction now??? because technically i could pay for it and never recieve it, ive always been dubious of making deals outside of ebay but thought i would give this ago. any advice please guys

Ask for a Paypal invoice with a description of the item on it. NOT a fan of auctions being ended early with active bids but....
And when you pay through Paypal- add a description as well.

Yeah you can either request an invoice from the seller for the item. (i always invoice when doing an "off-ebay" deal with an ebayer) or just send the money as "goods" (not "gift") and state what the goods are in the comment box. I always do this when buying from people i don't know. That way if it doesn't turn up you can claim your money back through paypal.

Exactly what Pete says. I bought something from a guy in the US and paid via paypal - it turned up with a crack and the seller wasn't interested in sorting it out so I opened up a case and won a partial refund - so paypal do cover you - just don't send it as a gift !

i paid it as 'goods' and put a description of the item in the comment box..so well see

I would only buy outside of eBay if the seller was an active member on one of the big forums. Then you can at least have a bit assurance that he won't disapear on you.

I don't agree with ending auctions early if anyone has put a bid in - i think that defeats the purpose of an auction. I do however frequently withdraw items from eBay that have a BIN or OBO price. i figure that if any wanted it that badly they had adequate time to hit the BIN button!

You can always pay by normal paypal and offer to add the 3.4% fees - that way you get buyer protection.

well it came a couple of days after i paid for it! just opened it today and its great! the card is flat the bubble is yellow but its pristine no dings or cracks ! well chuffed good deal :) . i dont think il go outside of ebay again though!
